Chapter 466 Snow Mountain Willow, Is It Yours?
"Snow Mountain Willow?" James asked casually as he strolled into the private room. "Did Emily mention Snow Mountain Willow? I didn't catch that. Maybe you misheard?"
James neither confirmed nor denied it directly.
Sophia felt uneasy, and the meal was far from enjoyable.
Midway through, Sophia went to the restroom. As she washed her hands and touched up her makeup, she pondered how to find an opportunity to talk to Emily about Snow Mountain Willow.
Unexpectedly, before she finished, she saw Emily's reflection in the mirror.
Emily hadn't expected to run into Sophia here. She sighed inwardly, thinking, 'What a small world,' and tried to walk past her. But Sophia spoke up, "Emily."
Emily stopped and turned, looking at her with a half-smile. "What? Got something to say?"
Sophia finished her makeup and turned to face Emily, her expression cold. "I heard you have a Snow Mountain Willow?"
"Yeah," Emily admitted without hesitation. "Why?"
Sophia's gaze grew more intense. "How did you get it?"
Emily's mind raced to interpret Sophia's question, but she kept her face neutral. "I bought it, of course. Why, do you have one too and want to give it to me for free? If you're that generous, I might just accept it."
Sophia's face darkened further. "Who did you buy it from?"
Emily laughed mockingly. "Does it matter who I bought it from? Ms. Brown, you're overstepping."
With that, Emily turned and left, still pondering Sophia's questions.
Why was Sophia so interested in her Snow Mountain Willow? Did Sophia know how she had acquired it?
Or was it that the Snow Mountain Willow she had was originally James's, which explained Sophia's concern?
Sophia returned to the private room with a sour expression. She saw James eating and sat down with a cold face.
James usually didn't pay much attention to Sophia's moods, but this was clearly more than a minor issue.
As someone she had saved and her future husband, James asked with concern, "Sophia, what's wrong? You don't look happy. Did someone upset you?"
Sophia pouted at James. "James, I want the Snow Mountain Willow."
James's face darkened. "You're perfectly healthy. Why do you need a medicinal herb?"
"I just like it. I want it. Since you have it, why won't you give it to me?" Sophia's temper flared, and she refused to back down.
James frowned. "Sophia, stop it. I've told you before, I don't like unreasonable women."
That only made Sophia feel more wronged. "How am I being unreasonable? You won't give me the Snow Mountain Willow because you already gave it to Emily, right? James, you're about to divorce Emily. Why do you still think of her and give her all the good things?"
Emily, lost in thought, walked slowly down the hallway and overheard Sophia's words as she passed a private room.
"Sophia!" James's voice grew darker, with a clear warning tone.
At that moment, Austin stepped out of the private room and saw Emily. He asked curiously, "Ms. Johnson, what are you doing here? You..."
Before he could finish, the door to the private room opened, and James appeared in the doorway.
Austin fell silent.
Was this scene unfolding because of him?
And were their secrets still well-hidden?
Emily ignored Austin and looked directly at James.
James looked back at Emily.
Sophia, who had been sitting inside, stood up when she saw Emily at the door.
Emily stared at James. "The Snow Mountain Willow I bought from Austin, is it yours?"
"Of course it's his," Sophia answered before James could speak. "Otherwise, how do you think you got it so easily?"
Emily glanced at Sophia, then focused on James. "Mr. Smith, is the Snow Mountain Willow I have really yours?"
James didn't want to answer.
He knew how much Emily wanted that Snow Mountain Willow. He also knew that if Emily found out who the original owner was, she wouldn't want it anymore.
He wanted to help her.
Not out of love, but because he felt he owed her something from their five years of marriage. He wanted to make it up to her.
Only after making amends could he fully commit to being with Sophia.
