Chapter 62 What Do You Know About My Parent's Death?

Chapter 62 What Do You Know About My Parent's Death?
"Who are you?" Angela asked, breathing heavily as her body trembled and her heart raced against her chest.

"It doesn't matter. What matters is what I know about your parents' death," came the man's voice.

Angela's mind travelled back to the scene of her parents' death, which happened ten years ago. She suddenly felt dizzy, and it felt like she had been drenched with cold water.

"What do you know about my parents' death?" Angela asked, her whole body trembling and her voice shaking, making her sound like she was stammering.

Chills washed down over her entire body, and she didn't realise she was speaking to a stranger whom she didn't know how he came by her number in the first place.

"I will not tell you that on the phone. I will tell you in person," the man replied. "I will send you a location. Meet me there tonight, and I will tell you everything you need to know about the person who killed your parents. He is closer to you than you know," he added and ended the call abruptly.

"Hello," Angela said on the call, even after hearing the disconnecting sound. "Hello," she repeated.

The phone on her desk rang, startling her. She shifted her gaze to the phone and picked up the receiver.

"Hello," Angela said in her trembling voice as she tried to keep calm.

"It's past 9 am. Where are the documents?" came Bryce's commanding voice.

"Er, I.... am working on it," Angela replied, shaking like a leaf.

"Angela, I warned you. Be careful. I want that document in the next ten minutes," Bryce said and ended the call without waiting for an answer from Angela.

Angela put the receiver back and grabbed the drink Diana gave her, and drank half of it before resting her back on the backrest. She inhaled deeply, trying to calm herself down even though the words of the man echoed in her mind. She remembered Bryce, and she picked up the document Bryce wanted and started working on it immediately. The time Bryce gave her passed, and her phone rang again.

"Angela, come to my office with the document now," Bryce said as soon as Angela answered.

Angela stood up from behind her desk and picked up the document. She exited her office and was soon standing behind Bryce's office door. She knocked and checked her appearance before entering upon invitation. She walked towards Bryce's desk, holding the document in her hand. Her entire walk showed evidence of how troubled she was. She stopped in front of Bryce's desk, who was not paying attention to her.

"What is wrong with you, Angela?" Bryce questioned angrily and lifted his head to stare at her with anger registered in his eyes.

"I ...." Angela began, her hand, which was holding the document, was shaking, and Bryce noticed that.

Bryce frowned, seeing how Angela was shaking all over, but he waited for her to complete her statement. Angela could not complete her statement as she was hit by the edge of vomit. Her hand flew to her mouth, and her eyes frantically searched the office for a washroom, but not sure where that was in Bryce's office. She turned around and ran towards the door, dropping the document on the floor. Bryce frowned and stood up from behind his desk.

"Angela!" Bryce called out to her, suddenly feeling concerned.

He followed her out of his office and was soon inside Angela's office. He heard her throwing up inside her washroom. Bryce frowned, wondering what was wrong with her. He entered the washroom and found Angela bent over the toilet bowl. She looked very exhausted when she was done. Bryce watched her clean her mouth and flushed the toilet, which had what looked like a drink she just had inside the bowl.

"I am sorry," Angela apologized cleaning her face with a paper towel.

"I know you didn't have breakfast before leaving the house. So what did you eat?" Bryce asked as he made way for her to return to her office.

"I only took this drink," Angela said, pointing to the drink on her table, and Bryce pulled her chair for her to sit.

"Let me see," Bryce asked, and Angela picked up the drink from the table and gave it to Bryce.

Bryce read the details on the drink and frowned.

"Where did you get this?" Bryce asked.

"It was given to me as a gift from one of the employees, Diana," Angela replied, still trying to calm herself down.

"Go home and rest. You look exhausted. Let Josephine prepare some soup for you. If you need anything, call me," Bryce said.

"Okay. I will do that after I am done working on the document," Angela said, and Bryce frowned.

"Are you disobeying me again?" Bryce questioned, and Angela shook her head.

She suddenly dropped her head on the table and began to sweat all of a sudden. Bryce moved closer to her, deeply concerned.

"I am fine. Just dizzy. Probably because I didn't eat," Angela said with her head resting on the table.

Bryce pulled his phone out of his pocket and called Marcus.

"Come over to Angela's office now," Bryce said and ended the call.

He felt Angela's forehead, and she felt a little warm.

"Why didn't you eat?" Bryce asked.

"I didn't feel like eating," Angela replied, and Bryce frowned.

"Angela, you will not starve yourself in my house again," Bryce warned, and they both heard a knock on the door.

"Come in, Marcus," Bryce said, and Marcus entered.

"Take her home. Make sure she eats, and if anything, call me," Bryce said to Marcus and shifted his gaze to Angela. "Go home with him," he said, and Angela just nodded.

Bryce returned to his office with what was left of the drink Angela had taken. He had earlier tasked Bernard to check the surveillance in the office for the day Angela went to misbehave at the interview. Nothing fishy came up except Diana offering Angela a drink. The same drink he was now holding in his hand. Bryce called his other guard to his office.

"Here, I want you to take this drink and have the lab technician check. I need to know if it had been spiked and what it was spiked with, " Bryce instructed and gave the drink to the guard, who left immediately to carry out Bryce's orders.

Angela, on the other hand, had finally arrived home. Marcus instructed Josephine to get Angela soup, which she did. Angela, after taking the soup, went upstate to her room. The conversation she had with the caller occupied her mind.

Meanwhile, back in the office, Bryce realises there were so many mistakes in the document Angela worked on. He grunted and worked on the whole document again. While he was working on the document, the guard returned to his office with a printed report on the drink that he had taken to the lab together with the drink. Bryce paused, accepted the document from the guard and dismissed him after. He quickly opened the report and read through it. He realised the drink had been spiked with cocaine.

"Hmmm, so this is how Angela got the cocaine in her system," Bryce thought and quickly dialled Bernard's extension.

"Bernard, come to my office. It is urgent," Bryce said and ended the call.

In a few minutes, Bernard was in his office.

"Mr President, you sent for me," Bernard said.

"Yes, the surveillance from yesterday. I want you to pull and call Diana to the disciplinary committee. I want to know why she is now spiking employees' drinks with cocaine," Bryce said, sounding very angry.

"Yes, Mr President," Bernard acknowledged and left Bryce's office with the drink and the report in hand to carry out Bryce's instructions.

Back at the apartment, it was fifteen minutes to the hour 5 in the evening when Angela woke up from her sleep. She remembered what the man had told her in the office and saw the location the man had sent to her, which appeared to be within the estate.

"I need to know what happened to my parents that night," Angela said, and quickly changed her clothes into black jean trousers and a blue-black shift-sleeve blouse. She grabbed her phone and exited her room, and eventually, she was out of the building. Outside, she told the security man she was going for a walk, but she headed for the location the man had given her in a cab.

An hour after Angela had left, Bryce arrived at the apartment. He went upstairs to check on Angela, only to find out she was not in her room.

"Where is Angela?" Bryce questioned Josephine after summoning her to his presence.

"She went out for a walk an hour ago," Josephine replied, terrified by the anger in Bryce's eyes as she had never seen him like that.

"And you didn't call to let me know," Bryce said angrily and called Marcus to his presence too. "Where is Angela?" he threw the question at him.

"Upstairs in her room," Marcus replied, unaware that Angela had left the compound.

"You didn't even know she was not in this house. Marcus, why do you think I asked you to bring her home and stay here with her?" Bryce questioned.

Marcus was about to reply, but Bryce interrupted him.

"Get the car," Bryce said and pulled his phone out of his pocket.

He tried calling Angela, but there was no answer. He used software to find Angela's phone realizing her phone was still on. He frowned, seeing that the phone gave off as a location.

"Sir, the car is ready," Marcus announced, and Bryce headed for the exit door.

Soon, they were out of the gate, heading towards the location where Angela's phone gave off.
