Chapter 153 Matilda and Eduardo's Secret Meeting
The next day, Bryce was the first to wake up. He was happy to see Angela sleeping next to him. He stared at her sleeping face and smiled. He felt some peace within him, and for that moment, he forgot about everything happening around him.
"This is how it should be," Bryce thought, still staring at Angela.
His phone buzzed, snapping him out of the moment. He quickly turned in the direction of his phone, intending to turn down the sound so it didn't disturb Angela. He picked up the phone and pressed the power button, silencing the phone. He stared back at Angela, and she squeezed her face briefly before relaxing again.
Bryce got out of bed slowly, ensuring he didn't wake her. He opened the door to the bathroom, and the call ended. Once inside the bathroom, the phone started ringing again. He quickly answered the call to prevent it from ringing loudly again.
"Hello, Sir," came Martin's voice.
"You'd better have a good reason for disturbing me at this hour," Bryce said, unhappy that he had to leave Angela alone in bed. "It's only 5:30 a.m.," he added.
"Apologies, sir," Martin began. I have completed the investigation and wanted to share the report with you. "
"Couldn't you have sent it to my email?" Bryce questioned angrily.
"Sir, I have sent the report to your email, but there is something you need to know," Martin said.
"I am listening," Bryce said.
"Sir, even though the report points everything to Ms Anderson as the brain behind what is going on, I found something else. Ms Josehhine Davis was never a Davis," Martin announced. "Her real name is Josephine Brown. She was a servant in the home of the Davis," he added.
"What are you talking about?" Bryce questioned with a frown.
"Sir, Ms Josephine is your mother, alright, but she was never a Davis," Martin repeated. "Mr Mathew Moore met her at a shop, and they hit it off. This is why Mr Mathew got close to the Davis family. He partnered with them, married Josephine and took her out of the family. He later agreed to be the Don of their mafia group. Why he did that, I am not too sure. The Davis family are into legit businesses, but why they run criminal organisations on the side, I am not too sure," he informed him.
"So that means I am not a Davis, and my father was managing their criminal organisation as their don. The same position they offered me?" Bryce said.
"Yes, sir," Martin said.
"Thank you, Martin. I will take it from here," Bryce said, ending the call.
"Why would Matilda claim I am a Davis when I am not?" Bryce thought. "This only means she lied about the kind of partnership the Davis has with the mafia organizations. They run the criminal organisations," he thought.
At the same time, at another location, Matilda stood behind a closed door with a scarf wrapped around her head. She had sun shades on even though the morning light was not so bright. She kept scanning the environment until the door was answered.
"Hope no one saw you coming here?" came the deep voice of a man who pulled her in quickly and scanned the environment briefly before closing the door.
"I was careful enough," Matilda replied, taking her scarf off. "I ordered an Uber and was dropped off at the bus stop. I walked to this place. My feet hurt," she complained, and the man stared at her feet as she kicked the shoes off her feet.
"Sorry about that," the man said.
"Eduardo, I didn't come here for apologies. How is my son?" Matilda asked and walked past him.
"He is good and he is an asset to the team," Eduardo said and followed Matilda into a room. "Coffee?" he asked as Matilda made herself comfortable.
"Yes, black," Matilda replied, and Eduardo got her the coffee.
"Since your daughter decided to serve in Bryce's home as a servant, my operations appear to be threatened. I need that guy off. He is not onto us, but with what is going on, it's only a matter of time before he exposes our ass to the public in the name of saving my love," Eduardo complained.
"I will deliver him to you as promised. And point of correction, Josephine is not my daughter," Matilda said, sounding displeased with Eduardo referring to Josephine as her daughter. "Back to the problem, Bryce thinks I am on his side and his war is with Devon," she explained. "George came up with a plan, and I believe it would work. We will put the plan in motion today," she informed him.
"Whatever," Eduardo said and sipped his whisky. "And what of the information his father had on our operations? Do you know where he kept them?" Eduardo asked.
"I am still looking but don't worry. Bryce doesn't know anything, and I can assure you he would never know. I set him up against Devon," Matilda assured.
"This is Bryce we are talking about. How sure are you that he would not find out? I have heard a lot about him. It's only a matter of time before he finds out the truth and comes after me," Eduardo complained, feeling uneasy. "You must settle your differences with Devon. It's the only way out," he suggested.
"I don't want anything to do with that arrogant fool. He killed Mr Adams and framed him. No telling what he would do next in the face of money and power," Matilda said with a frown. "And don't worry about Bryce. I brought him in because, unlike before, Bryce has a weakness now. He is in love with Mr Adams's daughter," she said, smiling. "He wronged her and he is trying to fix things amidst the trouble dancing around him. I just need to expose a little truth about what happened to Mr Adams, and he would go full force after Devon. We can eliminate him in the clash," she added.
"I still think we should not underestimate him. Devon hates Bryce, and that is enough reason to team up with him," Eduardo said.
"No, he doesn't. He just wants his brother's inheritance. Only Bryce can sign that to him," Matilda pointed. "He is still chasing money and power. You want such a person on your team?" she questioned. "Trust me, he would expose you to the world and have you killed so he can have it all to himself. That man's greed has no limit or control," she added.
"Devon is not the threat here, Bryce is. Uniting with Devon to deal with Bryce is the right thing to do right now. If Devon gives us trouble, we eliminate him. It ends there," he said.
"Don't forget, Devon murdered Mathew, and to date, no one has been arrested regarding that," Matilda reminded and sipped her coffee. "This is why we can't team up with him. Let him go after Bryce, and when we eliminate Bryce, Devon will take the fall. Two birds, killed with one stone," Matilda said.
"I hope for your sake, you are right, if not, your son, you and your entire family will be wiped off the surface of the earth while I smile in my lonely cell," Eduardo said.
"Don't worry, that won't happen. You remain the president's trusted friend," Matilda said and smiled.
