Chapter 149 Redemption Plan
"What if we bring him to our side? He can help deal with Bryce," George suggested, staring at Matilda.
"I don't want that greedy fool to be a part of my team. He would mess things up for us. We deliver Bryce, get my son back, and we will find a way to deal with Devon," Matilda said.
"Let's have a redemption plan," George suggested.
"What do you mean?" Matilda asked.
"We don't want anything pointing to us once Bryce is down, right?" George repeated, and Matilda creased her brow, listening attentively to George.
"Yes," Matilda said.
"Let's not forget who Bryce is. People will start looking into his death once it happens," George said.
"Go on," Matilda said.
"We want Bryce's death to look like he got himself involved with the mafia. Helping them with their illegal dealings," George said.
"I am listening," Matilda said, waiting to hear George's redemption plan.
"Bryce is no fool; he would look into it," George said. "Let's main Bryce's character. Let's use Devon and his beloved," George suggested.
"What do you have in mind?" Matilda asked, fully attentive.
"There is a war between Devon and Bryce. Devon and Susan are doing everything to make Bryce hate his beloved. In the end, Susan, his childhood friend, would appear to be loyal. Bryce would marry her, and Devon would get the inheritance of his brother using Susan," George narrated.
"And?" Matilda asked, getting impatient with George's delay in revealing his redemption plan.
"Now, what we will do here is aid Bryce in finding out what Devon and Susan are planning against his beloved," George said.
"And how will that benefit us and bring my son home?" Matilda asked.
"The moment Bryce finds out what Devon and Susan are planning, his beloved goes missing," George said.
"How would that be linked to Devon? Remember, Angela is under my protection," Matilda reminded.
"I know," George said. "Susan would call Angela and request a meetup," George said.
"And why would Angela meet up with Susan, who doesn't like her in her current condition?" Matilda said.
"To tell her the truth about the murder of Patricia and Elena. Angela has tasked Zora, her friend, to get information for her," George said, and Matilda gave it a thought.
"That might work. I just need to call Eduardo and tell him to pick up Angela, and Bryce will come to him. So how do we get Susan to call Angela?" Matilda asked.
"I would do that call, using Susan's number and her voice," George said.
"Perfect," Matilda said, smiling. "This way, we will not even appear in the picture. Good one, George. Let's execute it," she added.
"Once everything is over, would you be my woman?" George asked, staring at Matilda lustfully.
"Fine, that is, if this plan works and it brings my son home, clearing all those troublemakers. I would let you have my body," Matilda promised.
"That is enough for me," George said smiling and advancing towards Matilda.
"Ah! Ah!" Matilda said, putting up her hand to stop George. "Let's roll out the plan first. Your reward is after the work is done," she added.
"Very well," George said. "Just a kiss then," he requested, and Matilda rolled her eyes, but still drew George closer, pulling him by his tie.
She grabbed his jaw, slammed her lips on his and kissed him hard and roughly. George's hand travelled to her back and drew her closer.
"That's enough," Matilda said, catching her breath, but George wanted more.
"Go, my knight in shining armour. Go rescue my son, and I will be your bed lover," Matilda said and withdrew from him.
"Okay," George said, taking some steps back, feeling excited inside. He just couldn't wait to have Matilda in his arms.
He had slept with her before; it was once, and her husband was still alive. He had been thinking about her since. He just wants to make her his, and this is why he is still with her.
Inside Bryce's room, he lay on his bed, still in his suit, thinking about the letter from his mother and the documents from Susan.
"Angela didn't do it. Susan just wants to frame her up. I am not making this mistake twice," he thought and turned to lie on his side.
"I am not going to allow that to happen. I am going to protect Angela and my child this time," Bryce thought and sat up on the bed.
He stood up and headed for the bathroom. He had not showered since they returned from the graveside. He took a quick shower and recalled a memory of himself and Angela in the shower together. At the moment, he wanted to go to Angela's room and get her, but he knew that would not be a good idea. He had hurt her and needed to earn her forgiveness.
He was soon out of the shower and in his room. He remembered Ian. He recalled the report he submitted that made him hate Angela. He grabbed his phone and dialled his number.
"Hey, Bryce, my friend, long time no see. What's up?" came Ian's voice from the other end of the call.
"You have some nerves addressing me as a friend," Bryce said in an unwelcoming tone.
"Okay, now that tone tells me you are angry. What happened? Who angered you?" Ian asked.
"You did. I trusted you, and you betrayed me. Do you know what you make me do?" Bryce said through gritted teeth.
"Hey, man, it was just business. What happened to confirming reports first before using them to make a decision?" Ian asked.
"So now you want to push it on me?" Bryce questioned.
"Look, Bryce, you already know me and the way I do my work. I thought I knew you, but clearly, you have changed. When did you start trusting reports without a second look?" Ian questioned. "Look, Susan came to me and paid me more than you paid me to turn everything in her favour against you. You are my friend, and I remain loyal to you. I was not worried about taking Susan's money and doing what she requested because I knew you would double-check before using my report. I never knew the time had made you lazy and careless," he said, and Bryce felt stupid.
In the past, Bryce would double-check every piece of information, irrespective of who it was coming from. It's like since he started pursuing Angela, he had lost that side of him.
"Are you now controlled by your emotions, and your sense of reasoning gone?" Ian questioned. "If you messed up, take responsibility and don't blame it on me. The Bryce I know would not use a piece of information without double-checking. I don't know who you are. Get off my line," he added and ended the call.
Bryce sat on the bed and dropped the phone on the bed. He held his head in his hand, thinking about what Ian had just told him. Ian was indirectly telling him that he took Susan's money and did her bidding because he knew he would double-check the report before using it, but he didn't. He read it and just made his decision.
"I did think with my emotions and not my head," Bryce whispered on his lips.
He picked a T-shirt and trousers. He put it on, picked up a jacket and exited the room. He got one of the guards to move the car and drove him to his club. At his club, he went up to his room and decided to stay there instead.
He picked up his phone after doing a lot of thinking and called Zora.
"Hello, I need a favour from you," Bryce said.
"What is it?" came Zora's voice.
