Chapter 144 Davis Family Loss, The Rise of Bryce - Part 1
"Check the house, find Devon and Susan," Bryce ordered, and the guards returned to the apartment.
Bryce stood outside, watching for any signs of Devon. After 15 minutes, the guards exited the apartment.
"Boss, the house is empty," one of the guards reported, and Bryce kicked the car's tyre in anger.
"Let's go," Bryce said, and the guards sat in the car and drove out of the compound.
Matilda was sitting in one of the cars parked outside across the street. Once she saw Bryce coming out, she ordered the drivers of the two vehicles to move. She smiled as all three cars headed in one direction, home. They soon arrived at the Davis family house, and Martin was there waiting for Bryce.
Matilda got out of the car once it was parked, and so did the remaining seven guards. Bryce walked up to Matilda, and she frowned.
"Where is Josephine?" Matilda questioned, stretching her neck to look inside the parked cars.
"I am sorry," Bryce said, and Matilda covered her mouth with her hand.
"We had Ms Josephine, but once we exited, two guards came from nowhere and attacked. I tried to protect Ms Josephine, but it was too late. When I thought I had dealt with those two guards, I turned around to find Ms Josephine motionless. She had already been hit," the guard informed Matilda, and she staggered backwards.
"No," Matilda cried, and Bryce reached out and hugged her.
"I am sorry," Bryce apologised again while hugging Matilda.
"No, no, no," Matilda cried, and Bryce continued to hug her while they all stood in the garage.
The elevator door opened, and George came out of it. He walked towards Matilda and Bryce, who were both locked in a hug.
"George, he took my daughter's life," Matilda cried and freed herself from Bryce, walking towards George.
George hugged Matilda, shocked and shifted his gaze to the guards.
"What happened?" he questioned, and one guard brought Josephine's body out of the car.
"My child," Matilda cried and moved to Josephine's motionless body.
She sat on the floor, pulled Josephine into her arms and began to weep.
The guard narrated everything to George, and Bryce just stood there feeling like a failure. He had known Patricia Moore as his mother growing up. He only found out a couple of weeks ago that Josephine, who had been his head servant for three years, was his biological mother. He didn't even get the chance to speak with her after making that discovery, and now he may never be able to speak with her. Bryce frowned deeply and decided to leave, but Matilda stopped him with her words.
"This is the second time Devon Moore has grieved the Davis family. First, it was my son-in-law, your biological father, and now my daughter," Matilda said, her pain and hatred registered in her voice. "It's about time, Bryce Moore. It's about time you assume your position as Don. And complete the work your father started. The Davis' and the Moores are at war. Twice we have lost. This Davis family loss is your loss too. Devon killed your father and now your mother," she continued. "Bryce, you must avenge your parents. You are now an orphan because of Devon. The same man who made Angela an orphan," she added, and Bryce clenched his fists in anger.
He had more to add. Devon and Susan worked together to separate him from Angela, the woman he loves, and now Angela hates him. About making Angela an orphan, he didn't pay much attention to what Matilda had just said because his raw anger had filled him.
"I am ready," Bryce said.
"George, please take him to and brief him on what he needs to know. Next, we will introduce him to the true team," Matilda said and shifted her gaze back to Josephine, who was lying in her arms motionless.
Bryce and George left the garage, leaving Matilda with the guards and Josephine's motionless body.
"My dearest daughter, I know by now you think of me as a bad mother. I am not. I have to do what I need to do to gain the power our family once had as a Davis. I am sorry, I had to sacrifice you. It was the only way to build enough hate in your son so I could use him to deal with Devon, the man who took the love of your life away. I also need to train someone to take over from me. I am getting old. The Davis family must be feared again," Matilda thought, staring down at Josephine.
"Take her to the morgue. Make sure the police do not get involved, and well done all of you for today," Matilda said and stood on her feet, wiping the tears from her face. "Bryce would take care of her funeral arrangement," she added and walked towards the elevator.
Upstairs, in the corridor leading to the entrance, George and Bryce ran into Martin.
"Welcome back, sir," Martin said.
"Have you taken care of my apartment?" Bryce asked.
"Yes, sir," Martin replied. "I have employed a new set of guards to replace those that were killed, and I have also gotten new cleaners and security men. I have doubled the guard at the apartment. I have also strengthened the security of the house. The police are currently looking into what happened at the house," he informed Bryce.
"Good," Bryce said and walked past Martin, dismissing him with a hand gesture.
"Sir," Martin called out to Bryce, and he stopped in his tracks.
"I found this in one of the rooms while getting the apartment cleaned up. It is addressed to you," Martin said and handed a white envelope to Bryce.
Bryce accepted it and stared at it briefly before shoving it into his pocket with a mental note to look at it later. He went inside with George to know more about the Davis family, what they are into and what he needs to do.
Martin left the place to carry out his other work.
