Chapter 143 Saving Josephine
"Why do you want to see me?" Angela asked and walked away from him.
Bryce stood there, not sure what to say. He looked back and scanned the empty room behind him before returning his gaze to Angela, who had returned to her seat and was staring straight ahead. His gaze shifted to her belly, which had a small bulge showing in the blouse she was wearing.
"I," Bryce began and cleared his throat before taking a few steps closer to Angela. "I just wanted to let you know you have been vindicated. Eva and a couple of people were behind the murder of my mum and my sister," he said. "Eva committed suicide after her confession. On paper, she admitted to the crime but failed to mention the accomplices she mentioned in her verbal confession," he added, standing there like a guard reporting to his master. "I will ensure all those who accused you wrongly will pay," he assured her.
"Does that include you?" Angela said, shifting her gaze to Bryce, and Bryce didn't know how to respond.
"I," Bryce said and had nothing more to add.
"Eva made it clear she didn't like me from the start. So, if she tried to harm me, I understand, but how about you?" Angela expressed. "You pretended to care, and yet when I needed you the most, that was when you showed me it was all pretence. Are you going to make yourself pay too?" she asked, her face an expression of anger, but her eyes carried the pain she felt when he abandoned her.
"I am sorry, Angela," Bryce said and wanted to explain, but realised she was in pain and would probably not listen to his explanation. "I am sorry. I will take my leave now," he said and turned to walk away.
He walked to the door with his head lowered, but paused in his steps before he could exit the balcony. He turned around and stared at Angela, who had her back turned to him.
"How is our child?" Bryce asked, and Angela turned to look at him with disdain, hearing him address the baby in her belly as our child.
"You have no right to ask me how a child you called a bastard is doing," Angela barked, and Bryce just exited the balcony without another word.
He walked to the front door and left the room. Zora was standing behind the door, waiting.
"I am leaving now," Bryce said to her and walked away, heading for the staircase.
Zora frowned, staring at the back of Bryce for a while before entering the room to find out how things went.
Downstairs, Matilda was waiting for Bryce with some guards. While she waited, she engaged Mrs Anderson in a conversation.
"Is she coming around?" Matilda asked Mrs Anderson.
"She needs time. She was deeply hurt," Mrs Anderson informed Matilda.
"You must do something about that. I offered you protection, and in exchange, you are to make your daughter love my grandson like her life depended on it. I need him to assume his responsibilities as soon as possible. The only thing making him drag his feet about assuming his role is your daughter," Matilda said.
"I understand," Mrs Anderson. "Love is never forced. She would come around. I will keep talking to her," she added. Just then, Bryce walked in.
"Excuse me," Mrs Anderson said and left when Bryce walked in.
"The guards are ready?" Matilda said to Bryce, and he frowned.
"You were waiting for me?" Bryce asked, surprised, Matilda was chatting with Mrs Anderson while her daughter, his biological mother, remained in captivity with her life on the line.
"Don't ask questions. We have already wasted lots of time. I wanted to come get you, but I got to know you went to see Angela. I didn't want to be selfish," Matilda smartly answered realizing Bryce was reading meaning into her actions.
"Hmm," Bryce said, and they both headed for the main door with eight guards following them out.
They were soon outside, and they moved out of the compound in three cars heading for Devon's apartment.
"Now listen carefully," Bryce began with his instructions. "Only one car would enter the compound. The rest of the cars, I want you to park at the coffee shop across the street. I will go in with just two guards. The rest of you will wait. You will receive information on the situation. You can then move in through the back. There is a tunnel connected to the garage. Use it and enter the compound. Once in the garage, the basement entrance is under the parked Maserati Levante," he said. "Be on the alert; if he is keeping Josephine there, it would be guarded. Be careful," he warned, using the communication device so he could speak with all the guards at the same time while on the move.
They arrived at the Moore family house, and the car Bryce was sitting in with two guards drove into the compound. They parked the car and walked towards the front door. Bryce knocked on the door, and a guard answered, ushering him in.
"I am here to see my father," Bryce said to the guard after entering both the family and the guest living room and finding them empty.
"He knows you are here and will be here shortly," the guard reported, holding an A.K. 47 in hand.
Bryce had a pistol behind which he had covered with his jacket. He stood there with two of his guards, who were equally armed.
Twenty minutes went by, and Devon walked into the guest living room.
"Sorry, I kept you waiting," Devon said, and Susan also walked in. "Ah, she is my new PA," he said and made himself comfortable.
"I see," Bryce said. "I am not going to beat about the bush. I am here for my mother," he informed him, and Devon laughed.
"So you finally found out," Devon said, and Susan smiled. "I will hand her over to you, on one condition," he said. "I will give you two options for that," he added. "The first option of my condition is that you marry Susan here," he said and offered Susan his hand, which she also accepted.
He pulled Susan forward, and she smiled at Bryce.
"And the second option is, you cut ties with the Davis family," he said, smiling.
"I have a question," Bryce said. "Why do you want me to marry Susan so badly? And why do you want me to cut ties with my family?' he asked two questions together.
"I don't need to give you any explanation. You have to decide what happens to your mother. Make a choice, or she dies in 2 minutes," Devon said.
"I can't cut ties with my family. I was born into it. Whether I acknowledge them or not, they will still be my family. As for Susan, it's impossible to marry her. I am already married to Angela," Bryce said.
"You don't fool me," Devon said with a frown. "You and Angela are divorced," he said.
"You need to update yourself then, I got her out of prison, and we are married," Bryce said and pulled a file from his jacket, which he threw onto the table.
Susan picked it up and pulled the content out. It was a marriage certificate.
"It's true, they remarry," Susan said after checking it out, and she gave it to Devon for him to also have a look.
"I am sorry I can't release your mother to you today. I will increase her life by 120 hours. That is five days. You have five days, Bryce, to divorce Angela and marry Susan. If not, I will kill your mother slowly. I will divide her body into five pieces. Each day, I will deliver a piece to you until I finally cut her head off and deliver it to you," Devon said, but his phone rang.
Devon answered the call and frowned. While they were chatting, one of the guards alerted the guards outside to move in after informing them about the situation on the compound.
"Seize him," Devon said after listening to the caller. Devon's guard aimed his gun at Bryce, but Bryce's guard was fast to push Bryce down to the floor, and he shot Devon's guard in the arm.
Devon pulled Susan and quickly left the living room. Bryce stood up and decided to go after Devon. The two guards went into a gun battle with Devon's guards.
In the basement, the Davis guards had already freed Josephine, and Devon's guards were lying on the floor, wounded and their weapons taken away from them. One guard was with Josephine, leading her out of the basement. The other guards ensured Devon's guards did not come after them.
Bryce could not find Devon and Susan. He gave up on them and exited the apartment. He called the two guards who had managed to wound Devon's guard. Bryce was happy their plan worked, and he had safely gotten his mother, Josephine, out of Devon's grip. He walked out the front door and was shocked to find Josephine lying on the ground in a pool of blood. Of these three dead guards, two of them belong to the Moore family, and only one is the dead Davis guard.
"What happened?" Bryce asked.
"Those guards came in from nowhere. I launched at them. I thought I took them out, but I turned around and found them on the ground," the guard reported.
Bryce checked Josephine, and she had no pulse and was not breathing. He realised her throat had been Split.
"Fvck!" Bryce cursed.
