Chapter 133 Eva's Wedding Disaster - Part 2
Bryce accepted it and opened it. He frowned as he read the content.
"Get the car ready, we are going on a trip," Bryce said after going through the document.
"If this is about your ex-wife in jail, I will say, wait," Matilda's voice travelled to Bryce, causing him to halt in his step.
"What do you mean?" Bryce asked, dismissing Martin.
"I figured the documents in your hand revealed the true criminal," Matilda replied.
"I take it, you already know," Bryce said, facing Matilda fully.
"Yes, we do know, but I wanted to know how our new Don will handle issues," Matilda said.
"Did I do well by you?" Bryce asked, staring at Matilda with a frown.
"You had a few lapses, but it doesn't make you a complete failure. And that is why we deem it right to call you in," Matilda replied.
"I see," Bryce said, and Martin returned to the place.
"Sir, the car is ready," Martin reported.
"Her wedding comes up soon. Why don't you wait and gather a few more pieces of evidence? Your introduction also comes off tomorrow, and you must be prepared," Matilda suggested.
"An introduction?" Bryce questioned with a frown.
"Yes, we need to introduce you to the other members of the family and our business partners. The introduction of your wife would be done later," Matilda said.
"I don't have a wife," Bryce said.
"I know, but you will have a wife after this weekend," Matilda said.
"I went through that with my stepfather. I am not doing that with you," Bryce said sternly.
"Hmm," Matilda said and smiled. "With regards to your findings, wait a little. Saturday will be the best time to act," she added. "Now, let me get you ready for tomorrow," she said and led Bryce away.
The very next day, Monday Morning, Devon was awoken by the sound of his phone ringing. He sat up on his bed and picked up his phone from the bedside table. He answered it, seeing it was Susan calling.
"Hello, Susan," Devon said after answering the call from Susan.
"Mr Moore, Bryce was serious. He is not in the office, and it's getting to 9 am," Susan reported.
"Have you tried calling him?" Devon asked, getting down from the bed.
"I did, and it's not even going through," Susan replied.
"I will call you back," Devon said and ended the call.
He dialled Mark's number as he made his way towards the bathroom.
"Hello Mark, what did you find out about Bryce and the Davis family?" Devon asked.
"Sir, it appears Bryce is the new Don of the Davis family. As we speak, there is an introduction going on at the Davis family residence," Mark replied.
"What!" Devon exclaimed, and the little sleep vanished quickly from his eyes. "Are you sure of what you are saying?' he questioned.
"Yes, boss," Mark replied.
"Okay, keep looking and let me know what more you can find," Devon said and ended the call.
He brought the phone down from his ears as he stared blankly ahead. Chills ran down his spine.
"Why will he become the Don of the Davis family?" Devon questioned himself, and he dialled Mark's number again.
"I have a job for you. Get all your good men on board. You are going to look into the Davis family. I want to know who my late brother's wife is," Devon said and ended the call.
He quickly took a shower and left for Diamond Corporation.
Back at the Davis family, there was a gathering. Top-notch businessmen and powerful people had gathered at the home of the Davises. In a huge hall, at the back of the house, nicely decorated, tables were placed at vantage points for the guests. Some seats were also placed at vantage points. There was a long table of all kinds of dishes, and waiters and waitresses were going round with drinks for the guests.
"I am glad you were all able to make it on such short notice," Matilda began to address the people standing on the set stage with George standing next to her "Since the death of our former Don, I have stood in the gap awaiting the new Don. Today, I am happy to announce to you the new Don of this family. He takes over from his late father, Mathew Moore. Ladies and gentlemen, let us with applause, welcome our new Don, in the person of Bryce MMichaelMoore," she completed her introduction, clapping.
The gathering joined in the clapping. The gate opened at the back, and Bryce walked in flanked by six Davis family bodyguards.
"Wow, he is as handsome as his father, if not more," a lady commented as Bryce walked through the guests towards the stage.
"Finally, my daughter will marry into the Davis family," a mother standing by a round table with her daughter commented.
"Yes, mummy," Emily, the daughter of the woman, replied, smiling broadly as Bryce walked past them.
Bryce carried an expressionless face as he walked towards the stage. Bryce finally mounted the stage, and the bodyguards took their position at vantage points.
"Greetings, everyone," Bryce said, and Emily smiled, staring at him from where she stood among the guests. "It's an honour to meet all of you. This gathering is just to celebrate that starting today, the Davis family now has a new Don," he said. "There is more to drink. Enjoy yourself," he added, and the people clapped. "As for business, I have already put measures in place to ensure our enemies do not succeed over us," he said and handed the microphone to Matilda.
"Thank you, Mr Moore," Matilda said and shifted her gaze to the people. "Have fun," she said, and the party continued.
At Diamond Corporation, Devon was now sitting inside Bryce's office, trying to figure things out. Susan was with him.
"It's been a while. I need a quick update on everything." Devon said to Susan.
"Bernard can help. He was working closely with Bryce, and so was the witch," Susan said.
"No, I can't have him teach me how to run my own company," Devon said. "Where is Eva, your friend?" he questioned.
"She took a leave to prepare for her wedding this weekend," Susan replied. "But she would not be able to help if she were here,' she added.
"Okay, sit. We are going to look at all the documents together," Devon said, and together with Susna, they started going through the documents just to have an understanding of how Bryce was running things in the company.
Devon was still going through the documents when he realised he had not received any email, and it was almost noon.
"Are Bryce's emails this free?" Devon asked.
"No, he receives emails like every 30 to 40 seconds," Susan replied with a frown, wondering why the question. "Why do you ask?" she asked.
"It's almost noon, and I have not received a single email," Devon said.
"Let me call Bernard," Susan said, and she pulled her phone to dial Bernard's number.
"No, let me do that," Devon said and picked up the phone receiver on his table. "What is Bernard's extension?" he asked, and Susan shrugged her shoulders.
Devon frowned and dialled an extension of the reception which he could remember.
"Let me have the department extension book," Devon requested.
A couple of minutes passed, and they both heard a knock on the door.
"Come in," Devon said, and Bernard walked in when the door opened.
"Ah, I was about to call you," Devon said, but Bernard was surprised to see Devon in Bryce's seat. "I need you to check Bryce's official email and let me know if any of our partners have reached out," he said.
"Er, yes, sir," Bernard said, a bit confused.
"I also need you to get all the employees to the auditorium," Devon added.
"Yes, sir," Bernard replied and left to carry out Devon's instructions.
A couple of minutes went by, and all the employees were gathered in the auditorium.
"Greetings to all of you. Starting today, I am going to be your new president until we find a suitable replacement for Bryce," Devon announced, and the room was quickly filled with murmuring.
Meanwhile, back at the Davis family house, Bryce had already engaged a potential family, bringing the Davis family a new business on his introduction day.
"You were not wrong about him," George whispered to Matilda, and she smiled. "You have to make sure he doesn't find out about your little secret," he added.
"He will not know if you don't open your mouth," Matilda said.
"Pray, your daughter does not explain to him why she left and why he shouldn't be a part of us," George said.
"She dare not," Matilda said and began to walk towards Bryce.
