Chapter 117 Susan Found out about Angela's Pregnancy
"Fine, how much did he offer you for the job?" Susan asked.
"20 million," Ian replied, and Susan's eyes widened.
"20 million!" Susan repeated. "So you expect me to pay 60 million to you?" she asked.
"It's business, babe," Ian replied nonchalantly.
"You said the highest bidder, right?" Susan said. "I will give you 30 million," she offered.
"No problem," Ian said. "Since you two are not in the same place. I will call Bryce back and let him know you offered me 30 million and see what he will add," he said.
"Fine, I will get you the 60 million," Susan said, wondering where she was going to get such an amount from.
"Service sold at 60 million to you, Ms Susan," Ian said. "I want my money by the close of today," he said.
"I will pay, but I need some time to raise that kind of money," Susan requested.
"Okay, I will get to work once I have my money," Ian replied.
"Okay, I will give you 20 million by the close of today, and I will bring the rest later," Susan negotiated.
"Okay. How about this, you give me 30 million, I do 50% work, and do the remaining 50% of the work when you bring the other 30 million," Ian offered.
"You know what, give me up to close of tomorrow, to raise the 60 million," Susan said, already thinking of a way to get 40 million from Devon.
"You get yourself a deal," Ian said. "Call me once you have the money, and I will give you an account to pay the money into," he said.
"Okay," Susan replied and remembered Bryce had also called Ian for his service. "So what would you do with the 20 million from Bryce?" she asked curiously.
"I will have to send him a detailed report on my investigation in 48 hours. He is paying for that," Ian replied.
"So you are going to do what he asked you?" Susan asked, surprised Ian was telling her he was going to betray her.
"You are too slow," Ian said. "Bryce is paying me to do an investigation. You are paying me to change the report of the investigation," he explained. "It's easy to present the truth, and that is why my service to Bryce is costing less. To change that truth to a convincing lie takes a lot. This is why you are paying more. You are paying for both tangible and intangible resources that I will be using," he added.
"Okay," Susan said, knowing there was no point arguing with Ian or trying to convince him otherwise, but recalled Ian was presenting the investigation findings to Bryce within 48 hours.
She was now going to get him the money.
"You are presenting the report to Bryce within 48 hours. Does it mean you will present the truth to Bryce if I pay tomorrow, giving you only 24 hours to make changes to the report?" she asked.
"Bingo," Ian replied. " I need at least 48 hours to do a clean job. So if you delay, I will present what I have and trust me, it would be full of mistakes," Ian said, and Susan could feel he was smiling on the other end of the call.
"Fine, I will get you the money today," Susan said.
"Smart girl," Ian said and Susan ended the call.
Susan angrily walked towards the garage, unable to return to the party after her conversation with Ian. The question she had on her mind was, where was she going to get 60 million from at the time? She was fully aware that Ian would present the truth to Bryce if she didn't get him the 60 million as planned.
Back at the party, Eva felt Susan had left long and decided she was going to look for her. She also headed in the same direction she had seen Susan go. She ended up in the hallway leading to the garage. She walked down the hallway and used the staircase. She ended up in the garage. She quickly located Susan's car and found her sitting inside the car.
"Susan," Eva called out to Susan, tapping on the car screen, and Susan jolted behind the wheel.
"You startled me," Susan said as she didn't see Eva coming.
"I am sorry," Eva said and opened the co-driver's door.
"You don't look okay. What happened?" Eva asked as soon as she closed the car door and was now staring at the side profile of Susan.
Susan quickly told Eva everything that had transpired.
"I need to get him 60 million before the close of today; if not, you and I are screwed," Susan informed Eva.
"Oh gosh. We can't let that happen," Eva said as her heart raced against her chest.
"I don't know where to get the money," Susan said. "I can raise 20 million, but I will have nothing after," she said. "I am worried about the two of us ending up in jail. That can't happen," she added.
"The insurance that was paid to me after the death of my husband is still there. I was keeping it for a rainy day," Eva said, and Susan shifted her gaze towards her.
"How much?" Susan asked with high hopes registered on her face.
"It's 10 million, but I have some money I transferred from my late husband's account when he was alive. It brings the money to a total of 50 million," Eva replied.
"Good, I can add the 10 million," Susan said, and a smile appeared on her face. "Eva, you are a saviour," she happily said and pulled Eva in for a hug.
"I told you I would do anything for you," Eva said while hugging Susan.
"Thank you, Eva," Susan said, smiling. "Now let's go get that money," she said.
"Okay," Eva agreed.
Susan started the car, and soon, she and Eva were out of the garage and heading toward Eva's home.
"I can send the 40 million to your account now, and we can pick up the 10 million cash from my safe at home," Eva informed Susan.
"Hold on," Susan said. "Moving such a huge amount of money into my account would draw attention. Let me move 20 million from my account to your account, and I will pick up the cash. We can make a payment from your account," Susan suggested.
"Okay," Eva agreed without question.
Susan drove into Eva's home after a couple of minutes. She found a place to park the car and quickly retrieved her laptop from her bag. Eva got a bank notification after a few minutes, alerting her that her account had been credited with 20 million dollars.
"Okay, I am going to call him to get the account details so we can make a payment," Susan said while they were still sitting in the car.
"Ian, I have your money. Help me with the account details so I can make a payment," Susan said as soon as Ian answered the call.
"Hmm, that was fast," Ian said. "I will send the details to your phone now," he added and ended the call.
Susan got a message notification. She checked, and it was the account details. She quickly gave it to Eva, and she also went on his laptop and made the payment. Susan's phone rang as soon as the payment was done.
"Hello," Susan said.
"Payment received. Expect your answer within 48 hours as promised," Ian said and ended the call.
"It's done. Angela is going to jail, and Bryce is going to hate her," Susan said, but her phone rang again, and it was the chief.
Susan rolled her eyes and answered the call, knowing what he was going to demand.
"Hello," Susan said, sounding unwelcoming.
"I just called to inform you that Angela Anderson is Bryce's legally married wife and she is pregnant with his child," the chief announced, and Susan froze.
