Chapter 107 We Need Someone We Can Trust
"Mr Anderson, I do have some news. Something doesn't add up concerning your daughter's accusation, but I don't have much to conclude," James replied.
"What do you mean?" Mr Anderosn asked, and Mrs Anderson stared at Mr Anderson, wondering what was happening.
"This is not a discussion to be done on the phone. I just called to let you know I have found something. I will come over so we can talk about it," James replied.
"Okay," Mr Anderson replied, and the call ended.
"What did he say?" Mrs Anderson asked anxiously.
"He has found something, but he would not talk about it on the phone," Mr Anderson replied.
"And about seeing our daughter, is that possible?" Mrs Anderson asked.
"I forgot to ask. Let me call him back," Mr Anderson said and quickly dialled James's number.
Back at the station, the chief, after going through the report, got angry. He called the officer he was working with into his office.
"Did you read the report?" the Chief asked.
"Yes, sir," the officer replied.
"Then what is this contradictory information captured in the doctor's report?" the chief asked.
"It's an oversight. I would correct it immediately," the officer replied and went away with the report.
The officer made the changes and brought the report back. The chief went through it and was now satisfied. With this report, he knew there was no way Angela would not get a life sentence. Now all he needed was to collect more incriminating evidence, and the prepared witness would nail Angela into the box. He called one of the officers to his office.
"Sir, you sent for me," the officer said.
"Yes, I need you to take some men back to the crime scene of Ms Elena. Thoroughly look around and make sure we didn't miss anything," the chief said, knowing that other evidence had been planted at the scene by now.
The officer nodded. "Good," he added and dismissed the officer.
Once the officer was out, the chief picked up his mobile phone and dialled Susan's number. He brought the phone to his ears waiting for it to connect.
Susan had just arrived at the office, annoyed when she heard her phone ringing. She checked the caller ID, and it was the chief. She answered while still sitting in her parked car.
"Ah, Susan, darling. How are you?" the chief asked, smiling and relaxing in his seat.
"I am not in a good mood. What is it?" Susan's reply filled the Chief's ears.
"What happened?" the Chief asked with a frown, leaning forward in his seat.
"Nothing I can't handle," Susan replied from the other end of the call. "Why did you call?" she asked.
"Well, I am almost done with your request. My men are out there to check the crime scene of Elena one more time. I hope you have done what you needed to do?" the Chief asked.
"Yes, I have," Susan replied.
"Good, we will pick it up from there," the Chief said. "Before you go, I need to see you tonight. It's time for you know," he said lustily.
Back at Diamond Corporation, inside the garage, Susan sat in her car holding her phone to her ear. She rolled her eyes, hearing the Chief's request. She had already paid him in cash for the work he was doing for her, but as agreed, she needed to give him her body, too. She had planned to spend her evening with Bryce; there was no way she would want to go to the chief's place.
"Are you still there?" The Chief's voice travelled to her ears, snapping her out of her thought.
"Yes, I am here. Can we schedule that for another time? I have a programme tonight. My company has a premiere of a movie tonight," Susan requested.
"But I need you tonight. So what are we going to do? The Chief said.
"I am truly sorry, tonight would be difficult. I need to be at the programme," Susan said.
"Okay, how about this? You go to your programme, so they see you are there. I come by and pick you up from the programme to a nearby hotel for a quicky. You go back to your programme after. Win-win for all," the chief suggested, and Susan rolled her eyes.
"Chief, let's do this. Let me finish with the programme. I will come to your place tomorrow evening and spend the night with you. You can have me to yourself all through the night," Susan suggested.
Tonight, she had planned to get drunk and sleep with Bryce. She was not going to allow anything to mess it up.
"Okay," the Chief said. "Since you are going to mess up my night, spending the entire night with me tomorrow is not enough. I want three nights straight," the chief said.
"Fine, I will be there for the three nights," Susan replied, rolling her eyes and making a disgusting face.
"Good," the chief said and ended the call.
"Prick!" Susan cursed and grabbed her bag before getting out of the car.
At the Andersons', James had finally arrived at their home, and it was a few minutes past 10 am. He sat down with Mr and Mrs Anderson to explain the details of the report he had to them.
"Okay, I managed to get someone at the station to get me a copy of the report the police have as of yesterday. First, it was very wrong of your daughter to run away when the incident happened, but I can understand her," James said, and Mrs and Mrs Anderson listened attentively.
"So this is what they have in their report so far. The murder weapon found has Angela's fingerprint all over it. The murder weapon matched the weapon used in committing the crime. And there are images of the knife wounds inflicted on Elena's body, and the measuring does match the knife they found, and the bullet found in her body came from the gun found," James said.
"Gracious God," Mrs Anderson expressed in shock. "This is terrible," she said, and Mr Anderson knew what her reaction meant.
"Woman, not now," Mr Anderson said to his wife.
"There is an autopsy report stating the cause of death. It doesn't make sense, but it appears the stabbing was done after the victim was shot in the head," James said. "Why stab a dead body? A bullet to the head means instant death. So why the multiple stabs?" he asked, and Mrs Anderson lowered her head.
"Is there something you would like to tell me about your daughter?" James asked, seeing the reaction of Mrs Anderson.
"She is a good girl. She won't even harm a fly," Mr Anderson said.
"Well, there is no sign of struggle, but I see another strange thing. According to the report, the gun was shot at close range, creating an exit at the back of the head, but if you look closely, it rather looks like a bullet went in from the back, creating another entry, not an exit. Again, if the bullet exited the body, how did they find the bullet inside the body?" James questioned, and Mrs Anderson raised her head to stare at James.
"What does that mean?" Mrs Anderson asked.
"It means someone is playing with the report. Which also means someone has been paid to send your daughter to prison," James said.
"So how do we find this person?" Mr Anderson questioned.
"We need to go to the headquarters to report the suspicion. I am not sure who is giving the orders; this means we need someone we can trust from the headquarters," James said.
