Chapter 33 Never The Same Again
“I want you to meet Kyson, he’s my other friend who stays here on and off.” He sits up, making me sit up as well.
“Does Cassie hang out with you guys, too?”
“Yeah, she’s a part of our little group too, but I won’t invite her around until you’re ready to see her again. I figured you’ve had enough excitement today.”
I appreciate his consideration.
“Kyson, get out here.” He raises his voice just lightly.
Right, he has werewolf hearing; they all do. I figured at least one of his friends was here, probably in case something went wrong. Another tall boy with black hair walks out of one of the rooms next to Noah’s.
I recognize him.
“You’re the guy who helped me on the trail.” I point at him.
Alec’s head whips to Kyson, quickly shocked by what I said.
Kyson smiles sheepishly. “Hey, you’re the girl who got lost on the trail. I’m Kyson. It’s nice to meet you.”
“I’m Anna. It’s good to know at least I wasn’t being helped by a psycho murderer.” “
You two know each other?” Alec asks.
“I got lost on the trail once, and he kinda just appeared and pointed me back to the camp,” I answer for him.
Alec gives him a look, and I now can guess that it wasn’t by chance Kyson was there to help me.
“Okkkk, it’s time for me to hit the road now. Glad everything's good with you two. Good luck with everything. I’ll see you guys later.” He practically runs out the front door before we have a chance to say anything more.
It’s funny to see Alec in his natural habitat with his friends. I can see how they know very well about his anger issues. It doesn’t help that he’s almost always glaring at them. Although I’m lucky, I never see that glare.
I look at the clock on his wall, noting I’ve been here for hours now. “I should probably head back.”
He juts out his bottom lip, pouting.
“I know I would stay, but Beth will lose her mind if I stay much longer.”
He pulls me into his body, tightly hugging me as if I might never come back. “I love you.”
“I love you more.”
“Let me know when you make it back.”
I leave his house, promising to let him know how it goes with Beth. Although I just found out about such a life-changing thing, I feel lighter as I walk back to camp. It feels good knowing that there is nothing between us anymore. It feels wonderful that our relationship is far from over. That I still have my wonderful Alec. I walk out of the bushes into the busy camp.
I go straight to our cabin, knowing Beth is probably pacing in there waiting for me to tell her all the drama. It’s still a bit hard for me to deal with the fact that I have to tell her a flat-out lie, but I know I can do it. I know it’s for the best either way. I think my lie is good enough that she may question a few small things, but she’ll believe me.
I walk into the cabin, noting the triplets sitting around the beds, talking among themselves. Beth is sitting at the desk where I left her. She’s been enjoying the arts and crafts the camp offers.
“Oh my gosh, Anna, please tell me everything I’m dying to hear, all of it.” Beth jumps up from the desk chair as soon as she spots me.
I join her at the desks, pulling another chair beside hers.
“I’m guessing by that happier face, it went well.”
I nod, “Yeah, it went perfectly. We’re still together, obviously, and he explained everything. He fully told me the truth.”
I try to keep my lie similar to the truth.
“Okay, tell me then. I can’t wait any longer. Why was she there?”
“It’s kinda twisty, and honestly, he was just being a complete moron. Apparently, they have known each other for a while, childhood friends type thing. I guess she was bored and wanted to hang out with people for the summer, so she lied and came into the camp.”
Beth looks enthralled by my every word.
“I guess she happened to see us and wanted to become our friend. She intended to stay with the lie so she could hang out with us, but Alec and I started dating, so she got worried the truth would come out.”
“What the heck, that’s why she ghosted us? But why didn’t he tell you?”
“She made him swear to keep it a secret; she thought it’d just be better to ghost us than tell us the truth. I told him that the whole thing is honestly stupid. He should’ve told me, and she should’ve been honest with us from the start.”
Beth nods along. “So was she there?”
“No, he didn’t want to cause me to get upset if she was there too.”
She leans back in her chair, looking to the ceiling. “I can’t believe she wouldn’t just tell us the truth. I can’t believe she even lied to us to start. I really thought she was murdered.”
She laughs to herself, making me join her.
It feels like a weight lifted off my shoulders to know that she believes me completely.
“I can see why you’re still together, considering it wasn’t really his fault. But you did make it clear to him to never pull that shit again, right?” She gives me a pointed look.
“Yes, ma’am, I remembered what you said and made it very clear that if he does anything like this again, I’ll never talk to him again.”
She smiles at me, “I’m glad it all worked out. I know you felt like you were dying without him. It’s great to be able to go back to the way it was.”
I agree with her. It’s nice to be able to go back to what it was like before all of this. But in someways it’ll never be the same again.
My boyfriend's a werewolf.
I am his soulmate.
My world will never fully be the same again.
