Chapter 171 The Truth of the Wolves

Chapter 171 The Truth of the Wolves
Luna’s POV

The world was ending because of a lie told hundreds of years ago. And finally, I understood everything. The battlefield around Crescent Valley had become a massacre.
Wolves hunted openly through the streets now. Not all of them, but some still resisted the madness. But many didn’t.
The moon-sick infected had evolved into something worse after the First Wolf awakened and pack instinct became domination instinct.

Humans became prey.
I watched smoke rise over the ruined town square while bodies covered the streets below.
Some dead, some bleeding, and some changing. The screams never stopped anymore. And standing in the middle of all of it….I finally understood why this happened. Not because wolves existed, but because wolves were created.
The realization came through the First Wolf itself.

Its memories flooded into me every time it looked at me.
Ancient visions and ancient pain.

That was the truth. The First Wolf was never born naturally.
Centuries ago, humans had tried to create perfect protectors during endless wars between kingdoms. They used forbidden rituals, lunar energy, blood sacrifice, and something buried deep under Crescent Valley.
They succeeded. Too well.

The first transformed creatures became stronger, faster, and nearly immortal.
But instinct corrupted them. Power turned territorial. Territorial became violent. Violence became domination and the first wolves nearly wiped humanity out.
So the ancient bloodlines created the Seal. And one family became responsible for maintaining it. Which was mine.
The Ashford lineage was never just wolf blood. We were the lock and the key.
That was why my mother died protecting the seal. Why Grandma lied, why Kai’s family guarded Crescent Valley for generations, why Selene became obsessed with power, and why Ethan was manipulated.

Everything connected to one truth. If the First Wolf fully awakened…The hierarchy would spread globally and every wolf on earth would answer it.
And humans would become livestock under a supernatural empire.

The First Wolf stood at the center of Crescent Valley now like a king reclaiming a throne.
Around it, transformed wolves gathered in massive numbers. It was not ordinary werewolves anymore. It was an army and their eyes glowed silver instead of gold. They were controlled, connected, one will and one hunger.
Take the world back.

Kai stood beside me atop the ruined school rooftop breathing hard, with blood covering one side of his face and below us, Crescent Valley burned.
“This is becoming a war,” he said quietly.

“No,” I whispered.

“It always was.”

The bond between us pulsed painfully and was stronger than ever now. Because the closer the First Wolf came to full awakening…The more it tried to break us apart.
It understood something important. Then Kai anchored me, because without him….
The wolf inside me would consume everything else. Selene appeared behind us silently again and for once, she looked genuinely shaken.
“The northern barricade fell,” she said.

Kai turned immediately. “How bad?”

Selene’s voice hardened. “The wolves are spreading beyond town limits.”

Cold horror slid through me instantly.

No.

That couldn’t happen. The lockdown existed to contain Crescent Valley.
But now…
The wolves were escaping and military defenses were collapsing. And once the infection spread into nearby cities…
The world would know irreversible chaos and Selene looked directly at me.
“This is the point of no return.”

I already knew. The story was finally clear now.
No more mysteries, no more hidden motives, and no more endless secrets.
Everything happening traced back to one central conflict, which was that the first Wolf wanted domination.

And my existence threatened that domination. Because I carried the original bloodline capable of controlling the hierarchy itself and it was not through violence. It was through inheritance. The First Wolf wanted me beside it.

Selene wanted to use that power strategically and Kai wanted to protect me from it. And Ethan… Ethan wanted to save me even if it destroyed him.
Every storyline had finally collided.

A roar thundered across Crescent Valley suddenly. The First Wolf was calling its army.
Hundreds of wolves answered instantly from across the burning town.
Then they moved, but not randomly. They were organized toward the highways and toward the outside world. My blood went cold.
“They’re leaving.”

Kai’s expression darkened instantly. “We stop them now.”

But before anyone moved….
Ethan appeared at the edge of the rooftop. He was bruised, bleeding and his eyes were darker than before.

The ritual markings had nearly consumed his entire body now. Yet his gaze locked only onto me. “Luna.”

Kai stepped protectively in front of me immediately. Ethan ignored him.
“There’s still a way to end this.”

Selene scoffed softly. “You mean your shadow cult finally gave you instructions?”

Ethan’s jaw tightened. “They lied to me too.”

Interesting. Very interesting.
I stepped around Kai slowly. “What do you mean?”

Ethan looked devastated. “The First Wolf doesn’t just want freedom.”

The storm above us intensified violently. “He wants a replacement.”

Silence. Then Ethan looked directly at me. “It’s trying to merge with you.”

Everything inside me stopped and Kai’s face hardened instantly.
“No.”

Ethan nodded shakily. “That’s why it keeps calling her Heir. It can’t fully reclaim the hierarchy unless Luna accepts the bond willingly.”

Selene’s expression changed subtly with fear. Actual fear.
Ethan continued:
“If it merges with her… she becomes something worse than the First Wolf.”

The rooftop fell silent below the storm. And suddenly…. The First Wolf lifted its massive head from the streets below. Its silver eyes locked directly onto mine. Then slowly….
It smiled.
