Chapter 104 Fall in Deep

Chapter 104 Fall in Deep
The moment my boots hit the familiar soil of the Bone Cartel. I almost cried from relief.

How I'd come to see and love this place like home was a marvel to me.

“Home sweet home.” Finley murmured, walking inside, Nicole followed close behind him.

“Wait for me…” I whined, dragging my bags with me.

“Aggy!”

I turned to the side, eyes wide as Anthony rushed to meet me.

“Anthony…” I called, voice tight— my eyes snapped to Nicole and Finley for help.

They only smiled sadly and continued in.

“Oh my God, Aggy.” Anthony said, panting heavily. “It's been so long since I last saw you.”

“It was just a few days ago…” I replied dryly. “Here.” I handed him my bags and began walking inside.

He followed close behind, struggling with the weight of it.

Ahh… I guess having someone who looked up to you was a good thing.

“Umm… I was hoping I could talk to you.” Anthony said.

“Later, Anthony…” I replied, waving dismissively.

“I wish it could wait, it's really important.”

I yawned, my mind clouded with sleep.

“Seriously Anthony, I've been stuck in a car boot for two hours, and had to endure the trip in that cramped position.” I began rambling.

“Almost killed twice, insulted by a kid in some freaky armored suit, fought some crazy bitch…” I paused. “Although Nicole helped but—”

I was also threatened with the truth by some psycho dude and I did see the boss naked.

“All in all, now's not a good time Anthony.”

“About that…” Anthony drawled.

“God…” I groaned, “ I really can't deal with your bullshit right now Anthony.”

His fingers wrapped around my arm suddenly, my gaze snapped to him in confusion.

But his eyes—

“Anthony?” I questioned, walking closer to him.

“I need to have a word with you…” he paused, staring at me dead in the eye.

“Agent Voss.”

“So… you're undercover too.” I whispered.

He nodded.

We were currently in my room, talking.

I exhaled heavily. “What the hell is wrong with Lance?”

“After Miguel's death… he was worried.”

“Of course… What is it? I imagine it must be so important that you have to come clean.”

He exhaled, eyes flickering with uncertainty.

I didn't like it.

“Spit it out already, Anthony.”

He winced.

“Agent Lance has decided it was time to call it in.”

No.

“He's calling in the team.”

No.

“It's too early, we haven't even—”

“I think he's right.” Anthony interjected. “You've changed, you're making friends with these people, you're slowly losing yourself and becoming a part of this world.”

He paused, running his hands over his hair.

“Lance told me to keep an eye out on you and so far… the results aren't looking good and besides we have more than enough evidence so… there's no need for you to stay here anymore.”

I hated that he was right.

I really had changed.

“I don't blame you though…” he chuckled humorlessly. “They're not what I expected them to be, they're not like other Cartels… he is not like other Cartel bosses too.”

My heart clenched painfully, eyes prickling with unshed tears.

“When?”

“Three days from now.”

Fuck.

“Time.”

He eyed me warily.

“Don't give me that look, Anthony. I may have changed, doesn't mean I'll betray my team.”

He nodded. “9pm sharp.”

“Alright then… if that's all. You can leave.”

“Are you alright—”

“I'm fine Anthony, just… leave.”

He sighed, then opened the door and walked out.

Leaving me to my brooding thoughts—

Knowing that three days from now, I'd lose everything,

My friends…

The life I've come to know.

Everything.

Before I knew it, tears flowed freely, sobs racked my body and I clutched my heart desperate to expel the pain.

All to no avail.

It just kept flowing—

Then finally, sleep took me.

……..

“Wakey, wakey, sleepy head.” Nicole's voice floated into my ears, alongside the scent of freshly baked cake.

I groaned, sitting up.

She frowned as soon as she saw my eyes.

“Are you alright Aggy?”

I sniffled, managing a weak “yeah…”

“Fin…” she called.

Something popped, causing me to blink in surprise.

“Happy birthday to you—”

“Shut up.” Nicole said, cutting him mid-song.

“What's wrong babe?”

“Aggy’s been crying.”

“Seriously?” He asked, moving closer.

What the hell was going on?

“I don't see any tears though…” Finley murmured.

She rolled her eyes. “There's streaks of tears on her face, dumbass.”

“I'm fine,” I croaked. “I just stubbed my toe and I was so upset about it I couldn't help but cry.”

“I find that very hard to believe.” She said, staring at me suspiciously.

“What is all this?” I asked.

“What do you mean? It's your birthday isn't it.”

I cocked my head to the side in confusion.

“Huh?”

“Don't tell me you've forgotten your own birthday, it's May 8th isn't it?”

My face morphed from confusion to realization.

How could I have forgotten… even though it's a fake birth date.

“Oh my God…” I whispered, covering my lips in shock.

They both smiled brightly.

“Happy birthday to you, Aggy.” They said in unison.

Tears welled up in my eyes.

Whether it was from the news I just got or the fact that they actually remembered my birthday.

“Guys…”

“We have a surprise for you.”

“What?”

“Come on…” she said, standing up.

I followed, blinking back the tears as anticipation crawled in.

The door opened softly and we stepped into the hallway.

I frowned slightly. “Why's everywhere so dark?”

No reply.

“Nicole.” I called. “Finley.”

Still no reply.

Panic settled deep into me and I began walking forward quickly, hands feeling the wall around me.

Then—

I turned the switch on.

“Surprise!!”

I shrieked, moving backwards as my gaze landed on…

“Everyone,”

“Happy birthday, Aggy.” They all chorused in unison.

I sniffled, as the tears came back ten folds.

“Aww… come here,” Nicole cooed, opening her arms.

I didn't waste time diving into her warm embrace as sobs racked me.

“Why's she crying?” Ronan asked.

Him too?

“It's tears of joy, sir.” Nicole replied, patting my back softly.

I sniffled, raising my head to stare at him.

“Happy birthday, Fenton.” He mumbled, scratching his neck nervously.

Then slowly—

He pulled out a gift box, handing it to me.

“I didn't get to know on time, so… I just picked these out on my way back.”

I stared at him, eyes wide in surprise, as my heart fluttered and stomach twisted with a feeling I was all too familiar with.

I realized how deep I'd let myself go.
