Chapter 52
The Detailed Meeting.
Rosa Hartwell.

It was barely eleven in the morning when I got a knock on my door, and I already knew who was there.

"Is anyone around there? Get the door already!" I huffed my annoyance at my domestic staff, whoever was around, because the knocking was becoming incessant and my phone had already started ringing off the hook.

"I'm on it, ma'am." A blonde maid scurried out of my sight and rushed towards the door, welcoming the woman into my living room.

"Laila Kent." I pursed my lips as I tasted the name in my mouth. I hated the name Kent, and somehow, I was about making an alliance with this one. "To what do I owe this pleasure." I said over the rim of my coffee mug as my maid took her coat and led her towards the couch opposite me.

"We already spoke on the phone." She went straight to the point, "Good morning, Mrs. Hartwell."

I hummed a response to her and sat the mug on the side chair by me. "Well," I shrugged and spoke airily. "You were vague while speaking to me. And most of all, you seem to be having issues with my daughter... Believing that what? Your husband is in love with her?" I scoffed and shook my head. "I had to see for myself that you were not raving mad and trying to harm my daughter because of your delusions."

"We both know that Aria Hartwell is not your biological daughter." Laila maintained eye contact with me. "I did a lot of digging about your life, and I'm extremely surprised that Aria has no idea that you're not her real mother." She relaxed into her chair and brought out a thick folder from her bag. "Here's all the information I have about you, Mrs. Hartwell. And first of all, I would like to apologise for all the horrible things that Richard Hartwell did to you while you were married to him. The things that no one, except you knows. And well..." She shrugged. "Now me."

I flinched at the thought of the extent to what she knew about Richard and I's relationship. It was supposed to be a secret that I took to the grave, and if anyone ever found out that Richard abused me, no one would respect me anymore.

"So, I know that you want Aria out of the way, and Marcus as the co-CEO."

That was when I cut her off, clicked my tongue and wiggled a finger at her. "No no no..." I shook my head. "I don't want Marcus to be a co-CEO. I want him to be the CEO." I held her gaze so she could understand the full weight of what I was talking about. "I want Cassian Kent gone from the position too. He isn't in any way related to this family, and since he was brought into this home, he has been milking all of Richard's properties to himself. I don't really care what Aria does with her life because she's just a fragile young woman who can't do anything on her without the help of a man. It's easy to break a man who she is in love with, and we'll watch her whole life melt." I paused. "Before we continue, would you like something to eat or drink? I have everything."

She thought about it before shaking her head politely. "Is there a way that we can come into agreement of what we both want?" She began carefully. "A way that takes Aria out of the equation... And as for Cassian, well..." She breathed deeply. "I could talk to him and convince him to step down from the position."

The sound that left my mouth was more of a cackle than a laugh. "Talk to him? Convince him? Has he ever listened to anything you say?" I giggled, reveling in the sight of her trying to make herself small in the living room. I could see the embarrassment in her eyes, and there was nothing more that made me happier.

"We could get Cassian demoted..."

"Demoted..." I raised a brow at her. "You're willing to go that far for a man who doesn't even like you."

"He likes me! He loves me." She suddenly burst out, which scared me slightly. "He had confessed this over and over again to me until Aria came back into the picture. Until that will brought them together in an office space. Then, she started seducing him." She spat out in disgust. "She isn't even all that beautiful. A daughter of a maid? Who the hell does she think she is?"

The jab caught me right where it was intended. Laila was purposely trying to hurt me by using the fact that my husband had made love to a mere lowly maid in her quarters while I had been waiting all night for him to come to bed. I bit my lips to keep myself from throwing a deeper insult at her, and produced my easy-going smile.

"What do you suggest we do, then?" I cocked my head to the side to ask her. "How do you want to make Aria disappear and Cassian get demoted?"

Her eyes lit up at that. "Actually, I have a lot of evidence against Aria that your board members are going to like. You could bring this up as a new policy... Something that will make her lose her shares if she's caught doing this."

Before she completed her thoughts, I already knew where she was headed and I had already set things in place for that to be done. But still, it was the perfect timing for her to bring this to me. I would move the board motion tomorrow, and she would think I did it because of her. She would believe me and trust me even more.

Once Aria was out of the way, which wouldn't be much of a hassle, I would discard Laila and go for Kent.

"And one thing..." I told her, enjoying the way she stared at me eagerly. Her desperation was disgusting because she was doing all these for a man, but who was I to advise her any differently? "Find all the dirt you can on your husband. Something that will be sufficient enough for him to be demoted." Then, I leaned in and added. "Don't worry, I would make sure his salary is still as much as the one he's currently earning now."

She nodded enthusiastically, and I couldn't help but mutter about how much of a fool she was. I was going to destroy Cassian Kent with whatever information I got.
