Chapter 110 Mine alone

Chapter 110 Mine alone
Silence filled the office. Then Alex scoffed softly, shaking his head.
   “Nah.”
His voice dropped into a low, possessive whisper. “That’s not possible.”
His eyes locked onto Lucas’s image on the screen. A dangerous glint flickered in them. “You don't baby, and you will not because you’re mine.”
A slow, chilling smile spread across Alex’s face. “And mine alone.”
Alex grabbed his phone and dialed Lucas immediately. His eyes were still focused on the surveillance screen. Lucas’s phone lit up on the table. Alex watched as he glanced at it, paused for a second, then casually placed it back on the opposite side of the table.
Alex blinked in surprise. His grip on the phone tightened. “What the heck, Lucas?” he muttered, irritation rising in his voice. “Why are you not picking up my call?”
A sharp breath escaped him as he ran a hand through his hair, frustration simmering under his skin.
“Seriously?” Alex shut down the surveillance system with a quick motion, the screens going dark one after another. He snapped the laptop closed and pushed back his chair.
“I’ll just go find out why, myself.”
He had barely taken two steps toward the door when his phone buzzed again in his hand. Alex glanced at the screen hoping it was Lucas but it wasn't. It was her sister, Annie.
He exhaled quietly and answered the call. ” Hello Annie.”
“Hey big bro,” Annie’s cheerful voice burst through the speaker. “It's concerning Jason’s designers’ runway show. I’m putting you on the list.”
Alex froze mid-step. “What?” he said sharply. “What do you mean you’re putting me on the list? I’m a chef, not a fucking artist.”
On the other end, Annie burst into uncontrollable laughter. “Oh my goodness, Alex!” she wheezed between laughs. “Relax! Not as a model!”
   Alex frowned. “Oh, then what?”
“As a guest of course,” she explained, still chuckling. “And as an investor. Jason wants potential investors there, and you’re one of the biggest names I know. So I’m reserving you a seat.”
Alex rubbed his forehead, suddenly realizing how ridiculous he must have sounded.
“Oh,” A small sigh escaped him.
“I wasn’t thinking straight,” he admitted. “I’m a bit distracted, so sorry for the misunderstanding.”
   “Clearly,” Annie teased.
“But yeah,” Alex continued, forcing his voice to steady. “Go ahead. Put me on the list. I’ll definitely squeeze out time for it.”
“I knew you would bro,” Annie replied warmly.
Then her tone shifted slightly. “But big bro, is everything alright?” she asked carefully. “You sounded really moody just now.”
Alex stood in the middle of his office, staring blankly at nothing particular. Images of Lucas refusing his call flashed through his mind.
“I’m fine, Annie, later then,” he said quickly and then he ended the call.
But even as the words left his mouth, he knew they weren’t entirely true. Because the truth was, Lucas had somehow gotten under his skin. In ways Alex couldn’t fully understand.
Sometimes Lucas filled him with an overwhelming rush of joy that made everything around him feel lighter.
And other times, like right that instant. Lucas left him drowning in irritation, worry, and an unsettling restlessness he couldn’t explain.
Alex exhaled slowly. Even after all these years of control, power, and calculated decisions. One boy was still capable of completely messing with his emotions.
And Alex wasn’t sure whether that fascinated him or terrified him.
Alex strode out of the office, his long strides echoing sharply across the quiet corridor. He headed straight for the parking lot. His mind was still tangled with thoughts of Lucas ignoring his call.
By the time he reached his car, his patience was already wearing thin. He unlocked the door, slid into the driver’s seat, and shut it with a dull thud. Just as he tossed his phone onto the passenger seat, it buzzed again.
Alex frowned, hoping it would be Lucas but as he picked it up and glanced at the screen. It was Mac calling.
Alex’s expression instantly hardened. It was that same unknown name. The same person who had called earlier that morning.
A strange chill crept down his spine. For a brief second, his heart skipped, caught between irritation and something darker, something close to fear.
Alex stared at the ringing phone.
At first, he decided to ignore it.
But the buzzing stopped, then started again almost immediately.
The persistence of the buzzing sounded deliberate to his hearing.
Alex’s jaw tightened. “Damn it,” he muttered. He swiped the answer button, forcing his voice to remain calm and steady. “Hello”
A smooth, mocking voice cut in before he could finish.
“Hello, honey,” the man drawled lazily. “Did you have a fight with your newfound love, Lucas?”
Alex’s fingers clenched around the phone. The casual tone, the familiarity, it sent a spark of fury through him. His voice dropped into a dangerous growl.
“Hey,” Alex snapped. “Whoever you are, stop calling this line if you know what’s good for you. Do you understand?”
There was a brief silence on the other end, like the caller was amused.  Alex didn’t wait for a response. He ended the call abruptly.
The car fell silent as Alex stared down at the phone screen, his reflection faintly visible on the dark glass. His mind replayed the voice.
The confidence, the way he mentioned Lucas. Slowly, Alex’s brows knitted together.
“Who the heck is this Mac?” he murmured, suspicion creeping deeper into his thoughts. Because one thing was certain. Whomever that man was,  he knew far too much.
Suddenly, the phone buzzed again with a text message, the sharp vibration jerking Alex out of his thoughts.
   He glanced at the screen.
“Don’t ever cut my call next time, or you will regret it.”
   Alex’s eyes narrowed instantly.
For a moment he simply stared at the message, disbelief and anger colliding in his chest. His heart began to pound, slow and heavy.
“What the heck…” he muttered under his breath, gripping the phone tighter. “If I ever catch this Mac, I’ll shut his fucking mouth for life. How dare he threaten me?
The audacity. Whoever this Mac was, he clearly didn’t understand whom he was dealing with.”
Alex tossed the phone onto the passenger seat, started the vehicle, and slammed his foot on the accelerator. The engine roared to life as he pulled out onto the road, heading straight for Nathan’s apartment.
He wondered, could it be that, that bastard had contacted Lucas too? Alex’s jaw clenched. He pressed harder on the gas.
Meanwhile, Lucas was sitting comfortably on the couch in Nathan’s apartment, his phone resting beside him.
The screen lit up again. Alex was calling. Lucas glanced at it but let it ring. When the call ended, another one came in almost immediately.
Lucas lifted a brow, leaning back lazily.
   “Ignored,” he smirked.
The phone rang again. Lucas folded his arms, a mischievous glint appearing in his eyes.
“When I was the one waiting for you,” he murmured softly to himself, “you couldn't behave.”
The phone stopped ringing. For a moment, the apartment fell silent.
Lucas waited.
Then the phone rang again. He stifled a smile. “Oh my, Alex,” he murmured, shaking his head lightly. “I guess you must be rushing over here by now.”
He stood up slowly, stretching his arms above his head.
“Between you and me,” he continued with a small chuckle, “I don't know which of us is going crazier.”
