Chapter 66. I Remember

I know in my heart that I should not have left like this, but I also know in my heart and mind that if I didn't go like this, they would not have let me leave. I am outside the diner where me and Emma had our last meal together, waiting. Chase told me to meet him outside the diner, and he would bring Mia and Emma and trade them for me. I am watching my surroundings for anything or anyone. Part of me is waiting for Luca and Levi to pop up and keep me from going down this rabbit hole. But I have to do what I can to save everyone, including my best friend and sister. Just as the thought went through my mind, the waitress we had walked around the side of the building startling me.

"You are Raine, correct?" She said as she raised her one eyebrow as she dared me to lie.

"Yes, and where are my friend and sister, and where is this Chase guy," I say, giving her the same look back. The smile that takes over her face is a little bit creepy. But before she speaks, I hear a man clear his throat behind me. I take a deep breath to prepare myself before I turn around. I take in the scents around me, and his hits me like a truck. It smells like roses with a hint of pine. I slowly turn to see the tall man standing behind me. He is every bit of six foot five. He has short dark hair, almost black, but what stands out the most are his eyes. They are blue but not only blue they are like the blue of the Caribbean, and they seem to glow. He has a beard, but it is trimmed close to his face. He clears his throat again and claims my attention. When I look up into his eyes, I feel my wolf whine. Then I see Mia and Emma behind him, and my feet start to move toward them. Before I can reach them, Chase stops me by saying.

"I would not do that if I were you." So I stop and look at him, unsure what he means by that.

"They are in a trants state until we leave. When we leave, they will be able to return home." I look back to them and see that they are not moving, only breathing. Nothing else on them is moving.

"I thought I would at least get to speak to them," I tell him looking him in the eyes. I see a flash of something in his eyes, but it vanishes as quickly. He waves his hands, and they start to blink, but their arms or legs still don't move. I look back at him, unsure if I can touch them.

"You may speak to them, and they can speak to you but do not touch them... Please," He says, and I am unsure why he is trying to be polite when he kidnapped them and is going to take me. But instead of saying anything else to him, I look to my best friend and then my sister.

"I love you guys very much," I tell them and then give them the best smile I can muster.

"Don't do this, Raine," Emma says, giving me a sad look.

"You know I would do anything for you two. You are both my sisters. Promise to take care of each other and to help everyone else with this, ok." I say, giving them both a look, so they know I mean Luca and Levi. I see the tears falling down their faces.

"Please don't go, Raine, Please," Mia says, and as she does, I hear a commotion from the edge of the woods behind the diner. When I snap my attention to the woods, I see Kane break from the tree line shifting all in one flawless move. Then, just as his paws hit the ground, I feel my upper arm grabbed, and everything goes black, and I know we are teleporting.

When I finally feel something solid beneath my feet, the events come rushing at me like an emotional roller coaster. The looks of fear and loss on Mia and Emma's faces the anger in Kane's face. I gasp as the tears start to fall, and I go to the ground on one knee. Even though I have tears falling, I am pissed. I look through the tears to see that I am in a bedroom. I look to each side of me to see that Chase is still standing beside me. He walks to a window and opens the curtains.

"I am sorry that we had to leave like that. Are you ok?" He asks as he lets light into the room. I finally pull myself together and stand.

"I am ok but why do you want me, and what do you think this will accomplish." He smiled at me like I was not just asking something serious.

"Raine, you are my mate. We are destined to be together. I have already explained this to you. First, I have to get to know you alone. Then you will see the truth." I feel that there is truth in his words, but I fear that truth as well. He walks toward me and reaches for my hand, but I step back. He takes a deep breath before speaking.

"I know it will take time for you to understand why I have done things the way I have, but you can't deny the mate bond between us forever, Raine. I have waited on you a long time...." His pause after that has me questioning things more.

"If you have waited on me, is it me, or is it 'the light you have waited on," I ask because what good will it do me not to find out everything that I can. His smile is dazzling as he smiles at me before he starts to say something.

"It is you I have waited on, not the light or anything else." I give him a yeah right look before he continues. "I met you when you were sixteen. I knew then you were my mate. I have kept an eye on you ever since. Only because you are my mate, but yes, I knew you were the light as well. My family has dedicated their lives to the prophecy, and I found you first."

"How did you meet me when I was sixteen and know I was your mate and I don't even remember ever meeting you," I say, still trying to think and coming up with nothing.

"I had followed my brother to the pack for a meeting he had with Bastien. I hung around outside. I didn't go in to attend the meeting with him. You came running out the front door with tears in your eyes, and my heart broke looking at you. I knew right away with my feelings and your scent that you were meant to be mine." I thought back and tried to remember. Then I felt his hand on mine.

"I blocked your memory of me to protect you, but I think it's time you remember." As soon as he finishes talking, I feel warmth flow through me and flashes like a picture going together like a puzzle. I am running out of the house crying, and I make it halfway through the woods before grabbing a tree and sliding down it to rest on the ground. Then, I hear a noise from behind me. I turn to see one of the most handsome men I have ever seen walking toward me.

"Are you ok, dear?" He asks, and I sit there and stare at him like I am stupid. Then, finally, he laughs before reaching for my hand.

"Is there anything I can do to help?" He says, still smiling at me, and I think I feel tingles running up my hand where he is touching me, but that can't be right; I am not old enough to find my mate yet. All the memories come flooding me. When spent most of the day together and talked till he had to go. After the memories come flashing back to me, I look up at him.

"I Remember Is all I can manage to say.
