Chapter 67. Dinner Party
He walked right out of the room and left me to sit here by myself and think about everything I had forgotten. Really who does that? First, you block my memories, and then you leave me alone to think about them afterward. I don't even know what to say. I have sat here and thought about it. I was not old enough to find my mate, but I remember how I felt meeting him. He was so handsome to me. He was sweet and funny. I can even remember thinking that I hoped he was my mate. I didn't feel the sparks that I felt with Luca and Levi, but I can remember the look on his face every time that my skin would come in contact with his. The first time I had laid my hand in his to stand, and his eyes shot to where my hand was on his. He almost looked shocked but also excited. Then, the thought had crossed my mind that he felt something I didn't. I can't stand just sitting here, though. Then there is a knock on my door, but before I can say anything, it opens, and in walks the lady from before. I don't say anything as she enters the room and shuts the door behind her.
"Hi Raine, I am Donna, and I am here to help you get dressed for dinner." She says as she walks toward the closet that I have not bothered to look in. But, wait, did she say help me get dressed? I guess the confusion is on my face because she laughs before continuing. "Well, not really help you get dressed but show you the clothes and see if you need anything that you may not have."
"Thank you, I think," I say as I walk toward the window instead of the closet. This is all confusing. There is a vast flower garden outside that I can see from the window. It is beautiful and enormous. I can only imagine how many people it takes to keep it looking so amazing. I jump when Donna starts talking beside me.
"Chase planted every flower in that garden. He tends to it every day."
"It is beautiful. There are a lot of different kinds of flowers in it. There are some I have never seen before."
"Yes, he likes things of beauty. He said that he wanted to find a flower that matched the beauty of his mate. Still, it wasn't possible, so he would plant her every beautiful flower that he found so she would be able to look out at the huge amount of flowers and see that her beauty passed everything else." I gasp as my hand covers my mouth at her words. Did he really plant all these flowers for me?
"Well, enough about the flowers, let's find you something to wear." She says as she turns and heads back to the closet. I can't take my eyes off the flowers. Finally, I turn to see Donna standing there with several dresses laid across the bed. How did I not even hear her laying them out? I walk over and look over the dresses. They are all stunning, but mostly they are revealing, and I am not wearing anything that shows more skin than there is fabric. I do not know this man. Just as the thought crosses my mind, so does another, that I want to get to know this man. This is all super frustrating to me. I see on the other side is a dress that is more modest and is in a beautiful cobalt blue. I walk around and pick it up to look at it better. It has tiny crystals sewn onto the fabric. It is truly stunning.
"Wait, why do I need to get so dressed up for dinner?" I ask Donna as I realize that all of the dresses are too fancy for a regular dinner.
"You would have to ask Chase that, dear. But, if this is the one you like, then we need to get dressed its not much time before dinner." I don't even respond to her. I simply take the dress and head to the bathroom to put it on. I am not dressing in front of her. I have not forgotten she has helped set everything in motion. Hell, she drugged us at the diner. I go in and close the door, and luckily it has a lock, so I flip it before I start to undress. I get the dress on and turn to look in the mirror. It is a beautiful dress. My hair and makeup do not do it justice, but you know what? I am not dressing up for anyone. I am keeping it just like it is, and I will wear my sneakers because this is not what I want. Plus, all this still doesn't make sense to me.
I head out of the bathroom, and Donna is standing there with a pair of heels that would look amazing with this dress.
"Here are your shoes, dear." She says as she reaches to hand them to me.
"No, thank you. I will be wearing my sneakers. I am ready for dinner. What you see is what you get." I tell her with an I dare you to argue with me look. She stares at me for a minute like I have two heads. She finally shrugs and sets the heels on the desk.
"Well, if you are going like you are, then let's get going." She says as she heads for the door. I thought she would argue with me, but I am glad she didn't cause I am not in the mood. When she gets to the door and opens it, I see two enormous men outside my door. They bow their heads toward me even though I am not sure why. It is not like I am their master or something.
"Follow me. I will take you to Chase." Donna tells me as she starts down the hallway. I don't comment back, and I follow her. I watch every turn and my surroundings. You never know when you might have to try and escape. There are doors everywhere. This place can't have this many bedrooms, can it? Finally, we make it to a staircase and start down it. I guess we were on the second floor because it only goes down one level. When we turn to the right from the bottom of the stairs, I almost trip when I see Chase. He is in a suit, and his hair is slick and styled. The suit and his hair are making his eyes pop. They are almost hypnotizing. He starts to smile, and I pull myself together and finish walking to him.
"You look amazing!" Chase says as I get closer to him.
"You look ok too," I say, not wanting him to know how hot I think he looks. But, instead, the smile on his face gets bigger.
"Just ok, huh?" He says, and I give him a stern look.
"Yes, that's what I said."
"I think that you think I look better than ok. But if that is what you want to stick with, then I won't push." He then takes my hand and places a kiss on the top.
"Are you ready?" He then asks, and I nod to say yes. He turns and leads me to double doors that the bulky men from earlier start to open for us. When they are open, I can hear noise coming from inside that I didn't hear before. We step into the room, and I notice that there are a lot of people walking around the room and talking to each other. This is not just a regular dinner. It is a dinner party. Why would no one tell me, and who the hell are all these people?
