Chapter 86 There Was Once Such a Person

"Ms. Moore, the Wilson family, and the Morgan family didn't get along well originally. You could even say they were sworn enemies."

"There were constant conflicts between the families for generations. By our parents' generation, things eased up a bit, but they only stopped the bloodshed. In our generation, something happened that changed things a little."

"Once, there was someone who suddenly appeared and shook up the Wilson family's leadership with bold moves. She came from out of town, vowing to return to Emerald City."

Rhett's eyes sparkled with a special light as he spoke: "She wasn't afraid of power or the family elders. Single-handedly, she stood up to three major families at a meeting—the Wilson family, the Thomas family, and the Garcia family. She even dared to make a blood oath."

"She must have been quite impressive."

Elsie said in surprise. She'd never heard of such a person before.

"Indeed, very impressive. Within days of taking office, she completely cleaned house at the company. Everyone from families that had crossed her was fired. People said she was too ruthless, showing no mercy."

"But few people knew that everyone who was fired got twelve months' salary as compensation, and she even found new jobs for some of them. She was showing mercy, no matter if they were on her side or not."

Rhett said with great admiration, "The Wilson family controlled all the antique appraisal and auction business in Emerald City, but this person had a much broader vision. She thought the Wilson family was thinking too small. She believed the Wilson family and the Morgan family should join forces to grow the business together, to break out of this backward city of Emerald City and build a regional corporation."

"To that end, she made a special trip to the underground auction house. There, she accidentally saved the lives of dozens of the Morgan family's clients. Thanks to her efforts, Daniel and the Morgan family met and agreed that this generation would push forward reconciliation between the Morgan family and the Wilson family as much as possible..."

"I've never seen such an impressive woman. That day at the underground auction house, I saw her. She was more vibrant and charismatic than the rumors suggested. I even thought, how wonderful it would be if one day she could become my teacher..."

"That's really amazing. I wish I could meet her. So... did she succeed?"

Elsie asked carefully.

She felt an inexplicable sadness inside, and for some reason, she felt a strong connection with the person Rhett was describing.

Rhett looked at Elsie, his eyes full of sorrow. He shook his head and said hoarsely: "She failed. Overnight, everything collapsed. She lost everything, and she herself disappeared."

"What happened that night? How long ago was this? Have they found her whereabouts?"

Elsie asked anxiously. Someone so impressive shouldn't just disappear like that.

Rhett stared at her for a long time, as if wanting to say something, then swallowed it back and slowly shook his head:

"No one knows what happened that night. She's still missing, with no news at all."

"I remember now!"

Elsie suddenly said.

"Remember what?"

Kenna and Rhett's eyes lit up, their spirits lifted, their faces showing wild joy as they said in unison.

Elsie was startled by their sudden, strong reaction. She then lowered her head, looked around nervously, and said in a hushed voice:

"Mr. Morgan, you've been so good to me, so I'll share a rumor I heard. Let's keep it between us."

"Based on what you just described, Mr. Morgan, I'm pretty sure it's that executive who left PAT Marketing Company a while back. And according to Katya, I apparently look a bit like that executive. When I first joined the company, they mistook me for her coming back, which caused quite a few misunderstandings."

Elsie said with sudden realization. She was certain that the person Rhett was talking about was the executive who had recently left PAT Marketing Company.

Of course, she glossed over her recent experiences with the simple word "misunderstandings."

"Misunderstandings..."

Rhett said with a complex expression, but he didn't dwell on the topic. He changed the subject: "Because of all this, first, I represent the young generation of the Morgan family in wanting to repay that person's favor. Second, I'm fulfilling the agreement made with Daniel that night—that the relationship between the Wilson family and the Morgan family could ease up. And yesterday when I spoke up for Ms. Moore..."

Elsie scratched her head and said sheepishly, "It's because I look a bit like that person, so I'm benefiting from her resemblance. I'm pretty lucky."

She could feel the genuine goodwill. Since joining the company, Katya from the Wilson Group and Rhett from the Morgan family had both shown her great kindness. Katya said it was probably because of the similar appearance, and it seemed Rhett felt the same way.

"You're too modest, Ms. Moore. Yesterday, in front of Daniel, I wasn't speaking up for you—I was objectively describing the situation. Your description of the project yesterday showed your dedication to the work. That's very good, and you deserved that treatment."

"Thank you, Mr. Morgan."

Elsie said sincerely.

Rhett waved his hand, meaning she was being too polite.

"Thank you for taking such good care of Elsie. Maybe I should consider you..."

Kenna said with a silly smile.

Rhett's face instantly turned red, and he didn't dare look at Kenna anymore.

Kenna laughed even more happily.

Elsie quickly interrupted Kenna's teasing and continued: "Mr. Morgan, I'd like to visit the Morgan Group tomorrow to see your father and present PAT Marketing Company's latest pricing proposal in person..."

As she spoke, Elsie described the proposal she and Daniel had drafted that morning to Rhett.

"Good. It seems my visit was unnecessary—you've thought this through more thoroughly and comprehensively than I have."

Rhett was very satisfied with the proposal, but he also said with some concern:

"Let's talk business. I can understand my father's wait-and-see attitude. To be honest, I can only guess at what my father is thinking. What he values isn't just this collaboration—he hopes to truly establish a foothold in this industry. Although the Wilson Group is offering concessions and authorization, whether he's satisfied or not will need to be discussed in person."

"I'll be at the meeting tomorrow afternoon too, and I'll back you up as needed."

They then roughly agreed on the specific meeting time and place.

Rhett and Elsie exchanged contact information for future communication.

Kenna coughed twice and waved her phone. Rhett, blushing, added her contact information too.

After that, seeing it was getting late, he got up to leave.

Considering there were two kids at home, having dinner together wouldn't be convenient, so he didn't stay.

However, Kenna teased him a bit, saying her bedroom was big and spacious, with excellent soundproofing. She'd recently bought some aromatherapy specifically for calming the nerves, which worked wonders, and invited Rhett to come see it.

Rhett blushed and repeatedly declined, then drove away as if escaping.

Behind him came the sound of Kenna's bell-like laughter.
