Chapter 82 Let Elsie Come Back
Chapter 82 Let Elsie Come Back
After leaving the Wilson Group, Elsie didn't go back to PAT Marketing Company.
There was no solution to be found there. On the contrary, this morning she had managed to get a small bit of "revenge" on Jada.
Jada must have figured it out by now. If she went back at this moment, she worried Jada might try to trip her up somehow.
Elsie had decided that until this matter was resolved, she wouldn't return to PAT Marketing Company.
There wasn't a single good person there.
But Elsie was wrong. Jada wasn't at PAT Marketing Company right now.
After her outburst this morning, Wren had called Veda to tell her about it.
After hanging up, Veda sent Jada a message. It was very simple:
"Your father wants you home."
Around the time Elsie left Daniel's office, Jada was already kneeling in the living room at home.
Jada and Elsie's biological father, the head of the Thomas family, Kai, who had just returned from a nearly six-month business trip, was sitting on the sofa.
Kai was over fifty but still looked young. If you looked closely, you could see some resemblance between Elsie and Kai in their features.
You could tell Kai had been a handsome man in his youth—otherwise Veda wouldn't have come along as the other woman to steal him away.
At this moment, his face showed no emotion, but he had that quality of someone who controlled everything in this family, commanding respect without anger.
In the living room, only Jada was kneeling, and Veda was standing behind her, equally nervous.
After getting Wren's call, Veda's first thought was that Kai couldn't find out.
But she didn't expect that Kai had just hung up a call from Ronan himself.
Ronan's words weren't that direct, of course. After all, Kai and he had a decent relationship. On the phone, he just casually mentioned what happened today.
Kai, experienced in these matters, didn't need Ronan to spell it out. After apologizing sincerely on the phone, he opened his study door to find Veda looking panicked, and naturally knew Wren had told her about it, too.
"Have Jada come home."
As head of the household, this one sentence was enough to scare Veda badly.
From when Kai notified her until Jada was kneeling in the hall, her heart had been pounding violently.
"Kai, this is my fault for not teaching her properly. Jada's had things too easy, hasn't seen how cruel people can be, and couldn't keep her cool; that's why she lost control emotionally. Kai, this is all my fault..."
As she spoke, Veda's tears came on cue, quietly wiping them away.
After careful thought, Veda decided to strike first, adopting an apologetic attitude, taking the blame on her own teaching, then using the phrase "cruel people" to subtly shift the main problem onto Elsie, while making Jada seem like she could tell right from wrong but was just too passionate about justice, which led to her making a scene at the office.
As Veda spoke and wiped her tears, she secretly watched Kai's expression from the corner of her eye.
Still no expression, no words. He just tapped the sofa lightly with his fingers and took a sip of his now-cold coffee.
Veda grew even more nervous. After years of marriage, how could she not know that Kai was extremely angry right now?
The air seemed frozen.
Veda didn't dare speak again. Jada knelt on the ground with her head lowered, not daring to say a word.
On a normal day, she would have started acting cute by now. But she understood—today, the only one at fault was herself.
If what happened three years ago came out, with Kai's temper, he really would take her life.
Taking someone's life—Kai would dare to do it, and had done it before.
A long time passed, like a century.
Finally, Kai moved his lips and said, "Jada."
Jada's body trembled like she'd been shocked. She quickly said, "Dad, I'm here."
"Tell me, about today's incident between you and Elsie—who was wrong?"
When Kai said Elsie's name, both Jada and Veda felt like a strong hand had squeezed their hearts hard.
Kai knew Elsie was back, and he knew Elsie was at PAT Marketing Company!
Veda felt so nervous she could barely breathe. Ronan must have told Kai. This was Ronan's warning to her, reminding her not to go too far at PAT Marketing Company.
But she didn't know how much Ronan had said. He probably didn't say everything—you don't release all your leverage at once when threatening someone.
Standing behind Jada, Veda quietly kicked her with her foot. Jada's body trembled, immediately understanding. Without hesitation, she said, "It's all my fault. It has nothing to do with Elsie."
"Where did you go wrong?"
Kai didn't comment on whether Jada was right or not, just had her continue.
Cold sweat dripped from Jada's forehead as she stammered, "I... I shouldn't have... shouldn't have listened to rumors and misunderstood Elsie. Deep down, I was jealous of how excellent Elsie is. These years, Elsie suffered a lot, but that also built her abilities. I've been enjoying comfort, thinking I had Mom and Dad to protect me, not trying to improve, even feeling smug about it. Today at the office, driven by jealousy, I embarrassed the Thomas family. It's... It's my fault."
After listening, Kai didn't nod. He stroked his chin beard and looked at Veda instead, asking, "Sounds reasonable. Veda, do you think she's truly repentant?"
Veda panicked. She'd just been thinking about Ronan's matter when Kai suddenly called her name, startling her. She stuttered, "I think... she should... should be repentant. Give her another chance."
She started crying softly again.
Crying with tears streaming down, heartbroken. Though she didn't know Kai's exact thoughts, she knew that when Kai chose her over Mia years ago, it meant he loved her.
Sure enough, after a moment, Kai waved his hand impatiently.
"Stop crying. Keep crying, and the house will collapse. After more than twenty years, why haven't you fixed this crying habit?"
His words already carried that special tone of affection between married couples. Veda understood—Kai had softened.
And he was very satisfied with Jada's confession just now.
She understood even more clearly that in Kai's eyes, she was still that fragile, simple, kind, somewhat delicate Veda—unchanged from when she was young.
So Veda cried even harder, sobbing, "I'm already making you angry anyway, so I might as well do it again today."
Kai frowned. "What, did you tell her to make that scene today?"
Veda shook her head. "Elsie's been missing for three years. Now that she's finally back, let's have her come home. She's living alone out there in this huge Emerald City—I really can't stop worrying."
"Mia's gone too. As her mother, I want to make this decision—the doors of Thomas Villa should always be open for Elsie!"
