Fifty nine- Fractures and flames

Fifty nine- Fractures and flames
Aria's POV

“Did you tell Meredith someone set you up?”

“No, I didn't need to”

He stared at me like I was going crazy, “Why the fuck wouldn't you give her such a vital information?”

“Because unlike you she knows what I can do and what I can’t,” I said, giving him a pointed look daring him to counter it.

He sighed, his eyes dropping in defeat.

"I heard about the meeting with the council too, how did that go?" He asked, his voice distant as he stared deeply in thought. If I don't know any better I would actually think he cares about me and not Marissa or the problems that will come from this.

"Nothing hopeful, most of them think this is some scheme I came up with for some unknown reasons" I shrugged, masking my irritation.

"Let me guess Jones made you think that" Kael rolled his eyes as he talked about the Gamma, I guess they don’t see eye to eye which is ironic considering his relationship with Marissa.

"Your father did too and every other person on the board except Meredith and Vicky"

"Vicky?" His brows shot up like I had said something outrageous. I totally lost myself there.

"Sorry, Vicktor, the Beta" I corrected myself.

He rolled his eyes muttering to himself, "Of course you are on a nickname basis with the Beta". Jealousy dripped from his voice but I didn't pick it, he is an Alpha he will definitely act this way. You don’t want someone yet the slightest sight of them with someone else and they go ballistic.

"I don't see a problem with that," I shrugged.

"They didn't say when they would get back to you?" He quickly changed the topic.

"Before the fight that's for sure or all of this is pointless"

He can act however he likes, he doesn't owe me anything, and neither do I.

"Marissa is a lot of things," he said slowly "but I doubt she would want to set you up this way" he reasoned.

"Sadly I agree with you" I admitted."Something tells me that apart from the fact I was signed up to fight Marissa this has nothing to do with her and her minions, and that is what scares me most" I admitted.

"We will get to the bottom of this" he whispered.

"We?" I cocked my head to the side watching him, I didn't know there was a we now.

He rolled his eyes, understanding exactly what I was asking, "I can’t have someone coming after my tutor, that puts me in harm's way too, right?" He covered up.

" Of course" I bit out leaving any emotions out of the way. I should take Lev’s advice and just reject this dick. Even though I would never admit it, I just keep holding on to hope he would come around the bug every day he just keeps proving me wrong.

"Let us start please, I don’t have all day"

Having him act like he cares even a little bit is only pissing me off and I am not ready for that.

I walked further into the room, taking a seat on one of the chairs in front of the table. Kael stood staring at me with so many emotions swirling in his eyes.

"You don’t have to if you're not feeling up to it" he suddenly said. His eyes were now guarded if he didn't slip up a moment ago.

"I was never given a choice, if I was, I wouldn't have started this in the first place so please come sit so we can start" I shot back.

"Aria..."

"Please Kael, just come let us get this over with" I sighed, I don't want to hear whether it is what he wants to say. He has no right to blatantly say Be doesn't want me and still act like he cares about me. I will not be played with.

"Lyra" I called out as I knocked twice on her room door, nerves wrecking me. Kael had so graciously helped me confirm she was inside before abandoning me to my fate.

When I didn't get any response I took her silence as my cue to go in.

"I don't remember asking you to come in" Her voice was so cold I almost didn't recognize it.

"I am sorry. You didn’t say anything so I came in" I apologized watching her. She had her back to me facing her mirror as she brushed her hair. Something flickered in my heart as I looked around, she was one of the really lucky ones. She has everything a girl could ever want, being an Alpha’s daughter comes with so many privileges.

"Why are you here, Aria?" She questioned looking at me through the mirror, the hard exterior she was keeping up didn't suit her. It was obvious she was struggling with it.

"I came to talk, something is wrong and I want to know what"

"There is nothing wrong, Aria" She didn't even put any effort in for me to know she was lying. Her eyes were heavy and they were directed at me.

"Lyra please" I pleaded.

"You know I thought we were friends or at least getting there. I thought we understood each other, thought we could get somewhere as friends but it was obvious I was wrong" she voiced out. She sounded so hurt, betrayed and not knowing why frustrated me.

"You weren't wrong Lyra, we are friends. You are my friend and you are important to me. Don’t you remember this?" I asked as I pulled out the necklace she had given me for my birthday from under my shirt.

"Of course I do but right now it doesn't feel like it means anything" she shot finally turning to face me.

"But why?"

Her lips trembled "Because you found out my brother is your mate and you never cared to mention, why?"

I froze.

So that's what all of this is about...you have got to be kidding me.
