Forty two- Veritas Witch
Forty two- Veritas Witch
Kael's POV
"What the fuck were you thinking, Lyra?" I snapped angrily at her as we drove home.
"She had it coming" she shot back no atom of remorse in her voice, why would she just go after Marissa for reasons she has refused to share with me and then land herself in the principal's office?
"But she didn't attack you, even though the posts were not directed at you were they?" I asked, confused about her actions. Nothing seems to be adding up but she wouldn't say anything, I am not even so sure what exactly she did to Marissa but the girl looked pretty shaken up.
“But they were directed at my friend that you didn’t seem like you were interested in protecting so I did so myself” She jabbed at me with a sudden shift in anger in her voice I wasn’t expecting.
“What do you mean by that? I got Marissa to take down her post faster than anyone could” I defended.
“To protect your image right? You didn’t even acknowledge the fact that you were not the only one the post affected or the fact that the whole purpose of the post was solely to attack Aria. She may just be a mere tutor to you but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have feelings and none of this would have even happened to her if she wasn’t tutoring you” It is now she has stated what the real issue is.
“I never asked her to” I shot back.
She glared at me with so much anger in her eyes as she spoke up, “Is that the fucking point? Do you even think that if she had an option she would do it?”
I attempted to respond but he immediately cut me off, “I wouldn’t even want to tutor someone as egoistic as you, I really wonder how Aria does it,” She said no remorse or fear in her eyes, one strong trait Lyra has always possessed. She would never hold back whatever she thinks just because of what you might think or feel.
“You do realize you are speaking to the next Alpha of this pack and your elder brother right?” I reminded her already knowing fully well that it doesn't mean anything to her this morning.
“One who doesn’t even know how to handle shit, I see the way you act like she means nothing but I just can’t wait till her mate finds her and takes her out of here” She spat now shaking with anger. Something in me shifted at her words, I both wanted to laugh at the irony of her words but also act on the anger that was building up in my heart. How ironic that her mate is staring back at you…A twinge of guilt hit me as I took in her words. I should be the one protecting her and now the other way round but here I am, hurting myself and my mate alongside.
“Kael…” Lyra dragged on suspicion in her eyes as they immediately turned silver and I immediately knew things had just gone from bad to worse.
She is doing it again.
“Lyra,” I warned gripping the wheel, “ You promised you would stay out of my head”
The moment her eyes turned silver, the air changed. It felt heavier, as if the truth itself was being dragged to the surface. Drax growled lowly in his chest urging me to shut her out, he hated this more than I did…but you can’t shut out a Veritas Witch.
“That was because you promised not to lie to me” Her eyes were changing even more as she spoke, she wasn’t backing down.
“You better keep your fucking hands to yourself, Lyra” I snapped bringing to car to an abrupt stop. She had the one look I can identify in my sleep and that is the last thing I need now.
“You hesitated when I mentioned Aria’s mate finding her, what are you not telling me?” Her head was now cocked to one side as she assessed me with her now fully silver eyes, taking in my every movement, which is very bad for me. She is going to fucking find out here and now and there is nothing I can do to stop it.
My sister wasn’t just born under the moon, she carries a part of it inside her. A Veritas Witch the seer said, a truth witch Mum called her. The kind that could strip your soul bare with just a glance.
I remember the first time I had seen her in this state, with silver eyes, zoned out, and completely in a whole new world. Dad had tried lying about Mum’s health, she was twelve and the truth nearly broke her, although a part of me feels the realization that our father had been lying to us hurt her even more. Since then, I had learned one thing; never meet Lyra’s gaze especially when she is angry.
“You are imagining things”
“Really Kael, Am I?” Her eyes brightened, and my stomach dropped. “Desperate times call for desperate actions, Kael”
“Lyra” I hissed, already feeling the penetration into my head. “ Don’t you fucking dare…”
“You are lying” She breathed her voice hard, “ You are hiding something about her, and you are going to tell me what it is here and now” Her voice was low but firm, she knew she had me right where she wanted and I couldn’t do anything to change that.
