Chapter 74 Will you marry me, Aurora?
“I hope you’re comfortable.” Alec uttered, and Aurora nodded.
“Yes, I am. Thank you so much.” She answered as she kept her face on the road.
“I don’t look familiar to you, right?” He asked and she narrowed her gaze and looked at him.
“No, why? Do you know me?” She further inquired, and he nodded with a smile.
“Yes, I do. I am a big fan of the restaurant you work. I come there to eat dinner at least twice a week.”
“What? Really? That’s nice. I’m surprised I don’t know you.”
“Well, maybe that is because you are not working as a waitress. You are a chef, right?”
“That’s right. I spend most time in the kitchen.”
“I see. Weldone. Your meals are the best around here. It even got better when you joined them.”
“What? I don’t think so.” She chuckled softly.
“I’m very serious. Their meals were not bad, but they got even better when you started working with them. You have magical hands.” He complimented, and Aurora’s cheeks slightly flushed.
“Thank you so much, Mr. Alec. I appreciate your kind gesture.” She answered.
“So, do I keep going down? Or I take the turning on the left?” Alec asked, looking at the back through the rare mirror.
“No. You keep going down. My apartment is the apartment from this one.” Aurora answered, and Alec nodded.
Getting to the front of the large apartment, he parked his car and switched off the engine.
“You own this place?” He asked in surprise. It was a pretty large space.
“Of course, not. I rented one of the apartments in the building.” Aurora answered with a chuckle as she unbuckled the seat belt.
“Erm, before you leave. Can I please get your phone number? I would love to keep in touch with you.” Alexa uttered.
Deep down, Aurora just wanted to turn him down right away, but then, she instantly remembered Carter’s words. “Don’t let him stop you from meeting other people.”
“Sure.” She answered him, collecting his phone from him and typing in her phone number.
“Thank you so much. You don’t mind if I text you tonight before you go to bed, right?”
“No, I don’t. Aurora answered as she proceeded to open the door.
“Goodnight, beautiful!” Alec waved at her as he ignited his engine. Aurora waved back and made her way into the apartment. She could feel him staring at her as she walked away.
As soon as she walked into the compound, she heard him zoom off. She smiled softly and adjusted her bag on her shoulder.
“Such a gentle man.” She muttered as she made her way to the elevator.
As Alec dropped off, he let out a proud smirk as he put a phone call to Anita. He couldn’t wait to brag to her about his first plan which went successfully well.
He called her on a video call and placed it on the phone stand in his car.
“I told you not to worry about her, didn’t I?” He boasted as soon as she answered the phone.
“You got her to leave Arthur and never return?” Anita asked, unfazed by his bragging.
“Not yet, but I got her to enter my car; and I even got her number! All I have to do is get close to her, enough to put her in a situation where Arthur wouldn’t like. And then that’s all. I’ll destroy their bond again.”
“And then I go in with my own plan again, and we will win!” Anita uttered excitedly.
“Of course, we would. I portrayed myself to be a gentle man to her and she fell for it. If only she knew who she was dealing with.”
“Well, I’ve never seen her as a smart woman. She is one that can be easily deceived.” She rolled her eyes.
“No, that’s not the case. I was just too good at playing my part. Anyone would have fallen into my trap. You too fell into my trap, remember?”
“Enough. I’m hanging up.” Anita grumbled.
“Hold on! Before I get home, I need you to take a nice shower and wait for me to arrive…”
“In your dreams.” She rolled her eyes as she hung up. He chuckled and shifted his focus to the road again.
Getting to her door, she turned the doorknob and walked into her apartment to see that everywhere was silent and dark. She saw nothing.
“Arthur?!” She called as she reached inside her bag to get her phone. “Ryan? Riley? Rowan?!” She called. And just when her phone was out, the lights came on.
“Surprise!”
“Haa!” She jolted in fear. But immediately after seeing what he had done to the living room, her fear was replaced with surprise.
“Welcome home, Aurora.” Arthur moved closer to her and took her bag away from her.
“What?!” She uttered in awe as she stared at the rose petals that filled the whole floor. She could hardly see her tiles.
At the center of the living room was a table with two chairs, which were heavily decorated. There were candles, dishes and even wine on the table.
“I bet you’re tired.” Arthur uttered in a low voice, holding onto her shoulders as he began to massage them. Aurora’s eyes fell shut tiredly, enjoying the massage you gave her.
As he massage her, he slowly moved her towards the table. He pulled the chair backward so she could sit.
“When did you do this?” Aurora asked in surprise as soon as he let her go and moved to his chair.
“While you were away.” He answered, opening the meals he had prepared one after the other. The aroma filled Aurora’s nostrils, causing her to inhale deeply.
“Wow. You made these yourself?”
“With the help of the kids. Yes.” He answered, and then it dawned on her that she hadn’t seen the kids.
“Where are they?”
“Derick came to pick them up a few hours ago. They wanted us to have our privacy, so they decided to spend the night at his place.” Arthur answered, rubbing his palm together in satisfaction.
“What would you love to eat?” He further asked, and she picked up her plate.
“I’ll have the basmati rice and chicken.” She answered as she began to serve herself. Arthur served the same thing for himself too, and also opened the wine as they dug into their food.
He stole glances of her as they both ate. Their was an awkward silence between them, except for noises their spoons slightly hitting the glass plates made as they ate.
“About this morning… I’m sorry. I should have made it impossible for her not to reach me at all.”
Aurora gulped hard and nodded. “Yes, you should.”
“And I did that already. I changed my phone number. I destroyed that one already.” He answered. He pulled out his phone from his pocket and called Aurora’s phone.
Her phone vibrated and when she looked at the screen, the number was a new one, and was yet to be saved on her phone.
“That is my new phone number. Please save it.” He uttered, and she nodded with a smile.
“I will.”
“I hope this shows and tells you that I don’t want her. I want you and only you.” He placed his hand on her hand which was on the table and gave it a slight squeeze.
“Hmm.” Aurora answered, taking a sip from her glass of wine.
After a while, they finished eating, and Arthur stood up and walked up to her. He took her hand in his and helped her up from the chair.
“What’s going in?” She asked as he moved behind her and covered her eyes with his hands.
“We are heading to your room now.” He answered as he began to lead her to her room.
“There’s more?” She asked in excitement, but Arthur refused to say a word.
Getting to the room, he made her stand at the door. “Keep your eyes closed.” He uttered as he slowly removed his hands from her face.
“I’m so nervous right now, Arthur! What is going on.” She stamped her feet as she began to guess what the second surprise was, but nothing she thought was close to what Arthur had prepared.
“You can open your eyes now.”
Aurora hastily opened her eyes, and when she saw what was in front of her, her eyes dropped. On the bedroom wall was written “Will you marry me?”
On the white bedspread was a large heart drawn with rose petals, and one the floor were about five scented candles.
And lastly was Arthur, who went down on one leg in front of her.
“Will you marry me, Aurora?”
