Chapter 65 Let the chase begin

Chapter 65 Let the chase begin
The day finally came, the day the boys anticipated and waited excitedly for. Aurora was in Arthur’s house and they started decorating the living room as early as 6 a.m.

Anita left on the third day like Arthur asked, and the boys had been happier since then.

“I’m so happy, Mum. I made sure Daddy saw her for who she was.” Ryan said to Aurora, while Aurora raised her eyebrows in surprise.

“Really? You were the reason why he sent her out?” Aurora asked, and the boys nodded.

“I don’t think daddy liked her either. He just wanted to help her.” Rowan muttered, with his head buried in Aurora’s chest.

“You think so?”

“Yes! That is the truth.  Daddy likes only you. You are giving that speech today, right? And the kiss?” Ryan inquired. Aurora nodded her head and chuckled softly.

She wondered why they were so pertinacious about seeing them give a love speech and kiss.

“Why do you want us to do it though?”

“Because we don’t believe the lie you keep telling us that you’re out of the house to work. We know you and daddy are not on good terms, and we are trying to make this work.” Riley responded, while his brothers nodded in agreement to everything he was saying.

“Well, I don’t think your dad and I are going to work. We see things pretty differently.” Aurora confessed.

“C’mon, Mom, isn’t that even better? In school our teacher tells us not to move with friends that think like us but those that have intelligent perspectives to help us grow. You can’t be correct all the time, but if someone else sees where you’re wrong and tells you, you get to learn more and something new all the time.” Ryan lectured Aurora, while she grinned widely, wondering about how very smart he has become.

“You pay rapt attention in school, don’t you?”

“Of course. That is why we are going. I wouldn’t go if I don’t have interest, but I love school and love what I learn from school.” Ryan replied boastfully.

“I’m so happy hearing this from you, Ryan. I’m glad you’re learning something.”

“Back to the topic, Mum. You need to settle things with daddy. I want you back home.” Rowan mumbled.

“We need you back home.” Riley and Ryan chorused.

“I know, boys, and I want to be back home too but I can’t. Not when I’m not sure what he actually feels about me. He needs to show me that he does love me and wants me back.”

“What do you want from him then?” Rowan asked, raising his head to look at Aurora’s face.

“Well… that he puts more effort into making me happy. Wants to talk to me all the time, take me out on a date if possible, tell me how much he loves me and his actions say the same thing. That’s basically it. I need him to chase me.”

“Hmm. He’ll chase you.” Ryan answered with a smirk.

Aurora creased her brows, looking at the boys with suspicion. “Why do you sound so sure?? What are you planning this time?” She asked out of curiosity, but they said nothing but laughed.

Just then, their door opened and they all turned around to see Arthur standing at the door.

“Oh… Aurora. You’re here.” He uttered in surprise, and she put on a smile.

“Hi, Arthur.” She answered, not making any attempt to stand up from the bed she sat on. Arthur moved closer to where she was and to her greatest surprise, he leaned closer and planted a soft kiss on her cheek.

“Hi. I’m happy to see you.” He uttered in a low tone, squatting in front of her and staring into her eyes. The boys moved back squealing and jumping as they watched them.

Aurora’s eyes searched Arthur dumbfoundedly. ‘What is he doing?’ She thought as she became captivated by his looks.

“Why have you been avoiding me? You’ve refused to pick my calls or reply to my texts. How am I supposed to prove my love to you when you wouldn’t let me talk to you or text you?” Arthur asked, his eyes still locked with hers.

“I… I was busy.” She answered, clearing her throat. She wanted to look away, but Arthur reached for her face and moved it closer to his face.

“Don’t look away.” Arthur answered.

Aurora’s heart was thumping against her chest profusely. The tension in his eyes made it difficult for her to not feel so nervous.

“Errrm… we will go to Uncle Theo now. We’ll tell him to get us prepared for the party.” Ryan uttered, hastily grabbing Riley’s hand and pulling him out of the room.

Riley reached for Rowan’s hand too, creating a mini human train as they headed out.

“They are gone now. You don’t have to keep doing this.” Aurora uttered with tightened jaws.

“Please answer your calls and texts or I’ll keep blowing up your phone with them, and then you’ll have to keep charging your phone because I’ll keep running down its battery.”

“Well, I don’t mind charging every hour.” Aurora answered and shrugged, giving him a cold attitude.

“Then I’ll have to keep visiting your house. And don’t think I don’t know where your house is and where you work. Be ready because I wouldn’t mind being a nuisance just to get your attention.” Arthur answered with a faint smile.

“Why though?” She sprang to her feet and took a few steps away from where he squatted. “Why are you doing all these?”

“Because I have realized what I have for you is something I have always wanted and don’t want to lose. This is me trying to make up for the time I hurt you. When I made you cry. When I made you feel unwanted. I hurt you and I’m very sorry.” Arthur uttered.

He stood up and walked up to her again.  “I want us to try again…”

“Why? You aren’t thinking about Anita anymore.”  She butted in.

“I have never been genuinely happy around Anita. Not before, not now, not forever. I guess I just loved the idea of her. But after I took my time to think about it, the only time I felt genuinely happy was when you were my girlfriend.”

Tears heated the back of Aurora’s eyes as she listened to him speak. She forced these tears back because she didn’t want to give him an impression that she had accepted him back in her life.

‘I want the chase. I want to feel desires in a way I’ve never felt.’ She thought.

“Tell me what to do.” He reached for her face but she moved back and shook her head.

“We don’t have much time. We should get prepared for the party. This conversation can continue another day.” She answered, turning to leave.

Arthur smiled softly as he watched her leave. “You look very stunning!” He yelled from where he stood.

Aurora’s face flushed after hearing his compliments but refused to look back.

“Let the chase begin.”
