Chapter 64 Prove it

Chapter 64 Prove it
After finishing with the boys, Arthur headed to his room and laid on the bed. He remembered what his boys told him about their birthday party and decided to reach out to Aurora.

He called her and waited patiently for her to pick up. She didn’t answer the phone the first time, so he tried again.

She finally answered and Arthur swallowed hard  before speaking up.

“Aurora?” He called, and his voice was followed by a soft moan from the other end.

“Arthur?” Aurora groaned, her head buried in her bedsheets.

“Are you alright?” Aurora worriedly lifted his upper body from the bed like it was going to make him hear her clearer. “You sound so tired. Are you just waking up?” He asked, looking up at the wall clock in his room.

‘It’s 1pm. She can’t be just waking up.’ He said to himself.

“I am just waking up,” Aurora mumbled, and then for the first time, checked her phone. Her tired and thin eyes widened as she saw it was noon already.

“1 pm?” She exclaimed, and immediately, a groan of pain escaped her lips. Her head was throbbing badly. “Arghh!”

“Hey… Aurora? What’s going on? You’re scaring me. Are you alright? Where are you? Do you need me there?” Arthur got even more worried and shifted to the edge of the bed.

He wanted just one order from Aurora and he was going to be on his way right away.

“I… I am fine.” Aurora managed to speak properly. She crawled out of bed and trudged to the bathroom so she could get her face washed.

She placed her phone carefully on the basin as she proceeded to rinse off her face with water. She stared into the mirror in front of her and saw how messy her mascara had turned.

She had so much fun with Jack the previous night, but she could barely remember a thing. Now when her head was throbbing so much.

“Aurora?” Arthur called again, after listening to whatever she was doing underneath.

“Arthur, I can hear you, okay?” She muttered tiredly, picking up her phone again and walking into the room.

“Are you alright?”

“Yes. Yes, I’m fine. How are you?” She asked, settling on the bed again.

“I’m going well too. Just returned to the room from the boys’ and I was asked to call you by them. They said they told you something they’d love us to do in their birthday party.” Arthur answered.

“Oh…” Aurora raised her eyebrows in surprise. “I thought they were just joking around.”

“Well, they insisted I called and talked about it. I don’t think it’s a joke. Can you please tell me what it is? They refused to tell me and I’m so curious.

“Is it some kind of game?” He further inquired.

“No, it is not a game. They want us to give a couple speech in front of everyone at the party.”

“What?!” Arthur chuckled in disbelief. He wasn’t expecting it to be that. “Are you serious?” He asked, and Aurora scoffed.

“Why would I joke with such? And not only give a speech but also end it with a kiss. I cut them off immediately…”

“A kiss?! Why would they even ask us to do that? How do they even know what a kiss is?” Arthur laughed softly.

“Well, don’t hotter. I told them it’s not happening. They said they’ll tell you about it first, and if you are not interested, though it would make them unhappy, they’ll have to remove it from their list.”

Arthur nodded slowly, thinking about it.

“Why don’t you want to do it though!”

“Why would we give a couple speech when we are not couple? And the kiss?”

“But the boys would love it very much. They said it will be the best kiss ever. I don’t think it’s a bad idea.”

“So you want to do it?”

“Yes. I’d love to do that with you.” Arthur answered with a soft, hearty smile on his face.

“But what are we even going to say? I can’t remember the last time I prepared a speech.” Aurora muttered.

“Well, it shouldn’t be that hard. The speech would be about the boys and our love towards them. And then we just kiss afterward. That’s the most exciting part.” Arthur explained, already picturing the scene in his head.

“Why would our kiss be the most exciting part? We will be doing it because of the boys.”

“True. But I want to kiss you too, for myself. I have… I have missed you.” Arthur answered in low tone, recalling all the great time they had together before Anita showed up.

“Why are you doing this Arthur? What do you think you’re doing? Why would you say you miss me when there’s another woman right there in your house?” Aurora muttered with gritted teeth, feeling the intense pain of betrayal.

“Aurora, Anita leaves in three days. She’s here because she needs my help. Nothing more.”

Aurora scoffed and shook her head. “So nothing has happened between you two?”

“What?! No! Of course not. We are not together, Aurora. It isn’t what you think at all. I miss you and this has nothing to do with Anita. And I’m not saying this to make me feel better. I really do miss you, Aurora.”

Aurora went dumbfounded as she listened to Arthur. She was caught in between her broken trust and her feelings for him.

“I am trying to get over you, Arthur, don’t do this to me.” She mumbled tiredly with tears gathering in her eyes.

“I’m sorry, Aurora. I didn’t mean to hurt you by saying that. But I really do miss and want you back.”

“Arthur if you want me back, then you have to work for it. I just can’t come running back to you because of something you said over the phone. Proof it to me.”

“I will. But how? Tell me what you want me to do.”

“Figure it out yourself, Arthur. I have to go now.” Aurora said as she hung up immediately.

Arthur laid back on the bed and began to think. ‘What am I going to do now? How do I show her I truly miss and want her back?’ He pondered with his hands locked behind his head.

Just then there was a knock on his door. “Who is it?” He asked.

“It is Anita, can I come in?” She asked, and Arthur let out a sigh.

“Come in.” He answered with a stern face.

The door opened and the first thing he saw enter his room was a large tray with dishes on it.

“What’s that?” He asked as he looked at Anita, who was smiling widely at him.

“Lunch.” She answered, and he shook his head.

“How many time will I have to tell you that your work isn’t to cook?”

“I know! I know! But before you get mad at me, can you at least listen to me first?” She asked, and Arthur gulped. He nodded, staring at her.

“This is an apology lunch. For what happened earlier this morning. I made your favorite biscuits.”

“Anita, listen. This wouldn’t change what I already said. You have to leave…”

“And I will. After three days, I’ll be out of here. I promise, okay? I just need you to know you’re forgiven me. You’ve helped me so much and I want to make things right before leaving. Please accept this.”

After much hesitation, Arthur accepts her apology lunch. “Thank you.” He appreciated it.

Excitedly, she excused him and headed out of his room. The aroma of the biscuits escaped the plate, filling his nostrils.

“Fk this.” He muttered, proceeding to take a piece.
