Chapter 52 I'll have him
Aurora returned to Lake Charles after spending quality time with the boys. She headed straight to Jack’s restaurant and met him and the other workers busy in the kitchen.
“Jack! I’m back!” She uttered as she made her way into the kitchen.
“Hey!” He uttered with enthusiasm, flipping the scrambled eggs in the frying pan.
“I’m sorry I came back late. I couldn’t help but spend more time with the boys.” She uttered, reaching for an apron.
“Oh please, it’s fine. I understand you.” He answered, and she nodded, moving closer to him.
“Where should I start from?” She asked, and he pointed to the crate of eggs.
“Can you help me beat about eight of them?” He asked, and immediately, she got to work.
While she beat the eggs, Jack stole glances of her, smiling softly as he watched her beat them with all seriousness.
‘She’s so beautiful.’ He thought, staring at her.
“Jack, the eggs are burning already!” One of his workers called him back to reality, causing him to jolt.
“Oh sht.” He cursed under his breath, hastily lifting the pan from the cooker.
He forgot he had no gloves on, so in a twinkle of an eye, the hotness of the pan burned his hand causing him to drop the pan.
“Ouch!” He groaned, grabbing his hand.
“Jack! Are you alright?!” Aurora ran to where he was and took his hand in hers. She stared at the red burn on his fingers worriedly.
“We have a first aid kit.” One of his workers uttered, rushing out of the kitchen to get it.
Aurora lowered her head and started blowing air from her mouth on his wounded fingers.
“Why didn’t you use a napkin or glove?” She asked as she kept blowing air.
“I forgot I didn’t have any on. Don’t worry, I’m fine.” He tried moving his hand away from her but she stopped him, holding onto his hand firmly.
She kept trying to reduce the burn until they returned with the first aid kit. They all got back to work while Aurora got busy with the first aid kit.
“Let’s go to the office. I don’t want to distract them.” He suggested, and they headed to his office.
Getting to his office, Aurora applied some ointment on his fingers and then wrapped them with bandage.
“Feeling better?” She asked, and he nodded, smiling widely.
“Yes. Thank you so much.”
“You should be careful, next time, okay?” She advised, and he bobbed.
“So tell me, how was the meeting with the boys?” He asked, and she smiled again, remembering how happy she felt when she was with them.
“Amazing. I love every second. I wished it would never end.” She responded, zoning out for a second.
“And their father? Did you see him too?” Jack asked, unsure if he was supposed to ask her that. Aurora looked at him speechlessly, making him have instant regrets.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have asked. I didn’t mean to pry, I…”
“It’s fine. It’s nothing.” She answered, and he nodded, letting out a smile again.
Soon, there was a knock on Jack’s office’s door and they both looked in the direction. The door opened and one of the waiters at the counter walked in.
“Someone is here to see you, Miss Aurora. He said his name is Carter.” She uttered, and Aurora raised her eyebrows in surprise.
“Oh…”
Jack looked at her, watching her facial expression as soon as he heard that name. He recalled when he saw him in the hallway and the way they both hugged each other.
“Is he the father?” He wondered, staring at Aurora as she stood up from the chair.
“I have to go now, Jack. I’ll be back in a few minutes.” She said to him, and he nodded, giving her a go-ahead.
Getting to the waiting area, she saw Carter standing next to the counter. She raised her hand and waved at him, drawing his attention to her.
“Aurora.” He called with a grin, moving close to where she stood.
“Hey, Carter. What are you doing here?” She asked, pointing to one of the chairs at the corner so they could sit.
“I came to see you, but then I got to your apartment and saw you weren’t home. I thought this was the only place you could be, so I decided to come here.”
“Aww. Thank you for coming, Carter. How are you?” She asked, and he sighed.
“I’m coping. Derick won’t stop blowing up my phone with his calls. At this point, I’ll just destroy the damn phone.” He muttered, rolling his eyes.
“You should take it easy on him, Carter. He loves you and wants to make things right.”
“I don’t think so, Aurora. I’m so done. He has a son. His parents want him to get married to his son’s mother. What choice does he have? He’s Bi. After some months, he’ll get over me and be just fine. But I’m Gay. It’s different. You won’t understand.”
“Trust me, Carter. I kinda understand. I went to see the boys today and I saw Arthur. I missed him so much but I couldn’t tell him that. He was near but so far at the same time.
“I wanted him to tell me he missed me so much and wanted me back, but it was all in my head. I don’t think he’ll ever love me, Carter.” Aurora answered, breathing out deeply.
“We are both so broken, baby girl. Damn, I need a fking break.” Carter mumbled, shaking his head.
Just then, Aurora raised her head and saw Jack at the counter, looking in their direction.
“Hold on. Carter. I told you about the man that helped me in the elevator right? And that happens to be the owner of this restaurant.”
“Just like a fairy tale. Yes! Why?”
“He’s at the counter as we speak. Since you haven’t seen him before, here is your chance.” She uttered, and Carter instantly turned to look at Jack.
Immediately his eyes met with Jack’s, his eyes widened as he turned back to look at Aurora in shock.
“What?” She asked in confusion.
“Damn, he’s so cute! Oh my goodness! Are you joking right now?! How do you not melt when you’re close to him?” Carter teased, causing Aurora to roll her eyes.
“Oh please. I can’t keep melting everytime I see hot men.” She answered with a chuckle.
“Fine. If you don’t want him. Then I’ll have him.” Carter answered with a grin, turning to look at Jack again.
‘Holy hell. Why is he so hot?!’
