Chapter 42 Your place
~The Next Morning~
As Theo advised, Aurora headed to Arthur’s room still in the clothes she wore the previous night. Theo already told her the suit he planted the wiretap already.
Getting to his room, she opened the door and walked in to find him dressing up.
Tty
He turned to look at who it was, and when he saw it was her, he heaved a sigh and looked away.
“Good morning.” Aurora greeted with a faint smile, but Arthur ignored her. He kept buttoning up his shirt in front of the mirror.
Aurora moved close to him, fiddling her fingers. “About yesterday…”
“We don’t have to talk about it. I need to get to work.” He muttered, still not looking at her.
“We do need to talk about it.” She moved closer and stood in front of him. “I’m sorry, Arthur.” She uttered in a low and remorseful manner, causing him to finally look at her.
“What exactly are you sorry for? That you came home late and drunk? That you left me worried sick about you? Or that you started saying things you shouldn’t say?” He asked, looking into her eyes.
“Everything. I’m sorry. I just wanted to have some fun, and I forgot I suck at drinking. I can hardly remember what happened last night.” She lied, trying to touch him but he moved back.
“The boys saw everything! They kept asking me why we were fighting before I eventually put them to bed.”
“What?!” Aurora asked in awe, making him breathe out loud.
“What did you expect, hun?! We were both loud, throwing words at each other, having an argument over a topic we shouldn’t even talk about. But it’s all good, it made me understand what was going on in your mind.”
“Oh God… I’m so sorry, Arthur. Please don’t take those words seriously. I wasn’t myself. I’m sure I was spewing out nonsense.
“If I said anything to hurt you or the kids, I’m truly sorry. Please forgive me. I promise it will never happen again. I was just too excited yesterday and decided to do something stupid. I’m sorry.”
She moved closer to him to hold him, and this time, he let her. He sighed softly and looked at her again.
“Is that a promise?” He asked, and she bobbed.
“I promise. I’ll never make you worry again. I’ll not come home late and drink and I won’t spew nonsense ever again.”
Arthur nodded slowly, cupping her face in his warm hands. “Do you have a hangover? Headache?” He asked as his eyes searched hers.
“No, I don’t. I must have slept it off.” She answered, letting out a wide smile. ‘It is done.’
“Okay, great. I’m running late now, Aurora. I need to drop the boys at school before heading to the office.” He told, letting her go.
He walked to his closet to pick a suit, and Aurora quickly followed behind him.
“Let me pick out a suit for you today.” She uttered with a grin. He turned to look at her and stepped away so she could pick one out.
She reached for the first navy blue suit on the hanger and showed it to him with a large grin.
“You hardly wear this, why?” She asked, and he shrugged, staring at the suit.
“I’m not sure. Maybe because black and white are my favorite colors. I prefer wearing those.”
“Well guess what? You’ll be changing that today. You can put on a white shirt with it. Why not give it a twist today? Here… let’s try it on.”
“I’m running late, Aurora. I don’t have the luxury of time to start changing my pants.” He muttered, but Aurora was pulling him to the front of the mirror already.
“Look! It looks nice.” She uttered, placing the suit and pants against him.
“Fine.” He grumbled, hastily pulling off his pants so he could put on the one she suggested.
After a while, he was done dressing up and he checked out himself in the mirror again.
“See? It’s not that bad.” Aurora uttered proudly, and he nodded, smiling faintly.
“Okay, thank you, but I have to go now. I believe Theo has been done with the boys for some time now.” He uttered, planting a kiss on her cheek before hurrying out of the room.
When he got out, the smile on Aurora’s face washed off, leaving a cold expression on her face.
She walked out of his room and headed to her room to check if it was still connected to her phone. She turned on the app on her phone and placed it on her ear.
“Theo, are the boys ready?” She heard Arthur say from the other end of the phone.
“Yes!” She yelled in a whisper, feeling very excited that her plan worked perfectly.
While listening, she heard him ignite the car and drive out of the house. Just then, she headed out of her room with her phone with her. She wanted to thank Theo for helping her out.
Getting to the living room, she heard Theo in the kitchen.
“Theo?!” She called excitedly, walking into the kitchen.
“Miss Aurora. It went well. I saw him wearing the suit…” before he could finish talking, Aurora moved closer to him and embraced him tightly, catching him unaware.
“Thank you so much. It did work.” She muttered, and he blinked severally, nodding.
“I’m glad it did.” He answered, his hand hanging in the air, unsure if he wanted to embrace her too.
She disengaged from the hug and showed him her phone. “It’s working. I can hear almost everything going on around him.” She uttered in excitement.
Theo nodded with a feeble smile, looking at her face.
“But, are you sure you want to listen to his conversation the whole day? Some things are better left unknown, you know?” Theo uttered worriedly.
“I need to know what is really going on with him or I wouldn’t be able to trust him. I don’t even trust him as we speak.”
Before Theo could answer, they both heard Arthur’s voice from the other end.
“Hello?” Arthur said, putting his phone on speaker as he kept driving.
“Hi!” A familiar voice answered.
Theo and Aurora both went silent and stared at her phone, waiting to hear what he was saying.
“What do you want from me?! I told you to stop calling me.”
“C’mon, baby. Why did you block my other number?”
Aurora looked at Theo with her eyes widened. She recognized that voice.
“It’s Anita! Anita is on the phone with him! When did they start talking?!” She asked in fury, staring at her phone in anger.
“I’ll block this one too, believe me. Leave me alone, Anita. Don’t be a fool.”
“I don’t mind being a fool for you, Arthur. I miss you so much.”
“Enough! I’m hanging up.”
“Wait! I’m at your office!”
“What?!” Arthur and Aurora
“You can’t get rid of me that easily, Arthur. I know you hate me, but deep down, you still care about me. If you didn’t want me to reach out, why haven’t you changed your phone number? I’ll be waiting for you at the office. Let’s talk better face to face.”
After Anita spoke, Aurora heard the disconnecting beep from the other end of the phone, and looked at Theo in shock.
“Fk.” Arthur cursed under his breath.
“They’re going to see each other! I knew I wasn’t making the wrong decision! Why are they even talking to begin with?!” Aurora uttered in frustration, as she began to pace in front of Theo.
“Relax, Aurora. He didn’t seem pleased to talk to her either. He is in love with you, not her.”
“Oh please, Theo. Why does she still have access to his phone?! I know I’m acting crazy right now, but I’m not wrong. There is still a soft spot for her inside him! A spot that should be for me and me alone! He doesn’t even tell me he loves me, Theo.” Aurora muttered, tears heating her eyes as she spoke.
Theo swallowed hard, unsure of what to say to her again.
“Maybe you should stop listening to that.” He tried getting the phone away from her, but she shook her head, moving away.
“No! I’ll listen to everything that witch says to him. It’s high time I faced reality, Theo.” She uttered, walking out of the kitchen.
She got back to her room and shut the door behind her. She didn’t want Theo to come and discourage her anymore.
She laid on the bed and placed the phone next to her with its volume turned all the way up.
‘Let’s know your place in his heart, Aurora.’
