198-My Ex Tries To Seduce Me
Kedron:
“I love crab Rangoons,” I said, savoring the taste as I kept my eyes on everyone’s reactions to my presence here.
More specifically, Blaire and Michelson, along with a few other officials, were having dinner with us.
I hadn’t caught anyone’s scent again, even after Blaire had left to take a shower and returned.
Of course, the scent had worn off, but I knew something was off.
“It was a little hard for her to convince you to come to dinner. I wonder why that is,” I asked Michelson, noticing how he could barely eat.
His gaze hadn’t left me once.
“I mean, I know the history between you two. Is it wrong of me to feel— insecure?” he admitted openly, not hiding what was on his mind.
I’d heard he was an honest man. Honest in a way most people weren’t.
He didn’t filter his emotions or thoughts, even when they might sound inappropriate.
“All right, you don’t have to worry about that. It’s in the past. We’ve long moved on,” I replied, filling my plate with lasagna.
Blaire had really outdone herself. Every dish on the table was something I liked.
“Well, it still doesn’t change the fact that your arrival made my girlfriend so happy she went into the kitchen herself to help the maids prepare dinner,” Michelson said, making Blaire shift uncomfortably in her seat.
I looked up, smiling faintly at the two of them before chuckling.
“Don’t worry. Blaire loves money more than anything. As long as you stay on her good side and promise her good things, you’ll be fine.”
The comment hit her harder than I expected. Her eyes began to water.
“Well, you don’t have to tell me how to please my girlfriend,” Michelson snapped. “Your wife is gone, and seeing you here without her just–unsettled me. I started wondering if maybe you’ve decided to go back to your ex now that your wife isn’t around.”
His words were sharp, deliberately taunting.
My hand tightened around the fork, not because I couldn’t handle his jab, but because the mention of Yuna brought a flood of memories and anger.
One of them had to know what happened to her. Otherwise, Blaire wouldn’t have had her scent all over her.
“You seem to take a lot of interest in his wife,” Blaire cut in, throwing the jab right back at Michelson.
So that’s what she chose, sniping at him to save face.
After taking money in exchange for my love, this was the woman she’d become.
Still, I couldn’t help thinking, if only Yuna were here, I would’ve been the happiest man alive.
“Anyway,” Michelson said flatly, pushing back his chair, “dinner’s over. You should rest. I’m sure Blaire has prepared a beautiful room for you. Right, Blaire?”
“Sure,” she muttered, her voice barely holding steady.
I rose from the table and followed one of the maids to the guest room. Thankfully, it was right next to Blaire’s so that I could keep an eye on her.
The room had a huge window. I sat down by it, staring out into the dark, planning my next move.
My next plan was to sneak out of the room, go around, and conduct an investigation.
I wanted to interview the other vampires, ask if they had seen anything strange or suspicious.
Even though I knew there was a chance of getting caught, I wasn’t really afraid.
I mean, I was the future Alpha King. Vampires had no right over us.
The only reason I was keeping things quiet was to avoid alerting the kidnapper.
After staring outside for a while, I got up from the window, thinking I’d just go and investigate.
That’s when I noticed something.
My eyes narrowed as I caught sight of someone heading out of the mansion, walking briskly into the darkness.
I rushed to the door, and as soon as I opened it, I froze.
Blaire was standing there, wearing a revealing nightgown that barely reached her thighs, her cleavage showing, her expression shamelessly bold.
“Kedron, I see you were restless too,” she purred, using the same sultry tone she had used on me in the past, one that had once worked like a charm.
“Well, yeah, I just need to take a walk. I guess I ate too much last night,” I replied, trying to excuse myself.
But she placed her hands on both sides of the doorframe, blocking my way.
I stepped back immediately, careful not to touch her.
“What are you doing?” I questioned, my tone cold enough to make my disinterest clear.
“Kedron, Yuna is gone,” she began, and a deep frown formed on my face.
I wished she had seen it, it might’ve saved her the embarrassment she was about to bring on herself by throwing herself at me.
“I heard she’s a red wolf,” she continued, her voice softening.
“I heard she’s supposed to kill her mates. Don’t you think that’s enough reason to just let her go? Why would you want to die? It seems like death wish to me. It seems like suicide.” She kept talking, shifting her shoulders so her strap slipped off, trying to tempt me.
“Blaire, the thing is, I don’t fucking care what she is. I love her,” I said firmly, placing a hand on my chest as I spoke.
Her desperate attempts stopped instantly.
“You used to love me,” she murmured, her eyes glistening.
“No, Blaire. I thought it was love. And I’m glad you chose a better life for yourself because it gave me the chance to be with someone I never would’ve met if I’d stayed with you,” I explained, trying to keep my tone even.
Tears filled her eyes.
“How can you forget about us? I know I made a mistake, but I was scared. Once you found your mate, I thought you’d lose control, and look at you now, you chose Yuna. So tell me, was I wrong to fear it?” she asked, her voice trembling as she reached out.
I raised a hand, gesturing for her to step back. She froze, clasping her hands tightly in front of her chest, staring at me helplessly.
“No, you weren’t wrong,” I admitted quietly. “And I’m glad you chose the crown for yourself. But don’t expect me to love you. I don’t.”
“I can’t live without you now, Kedron,” she whispered desperately.
“I have no feelings for you, Blaire. Don’t ruin whatever you have with Michelson because of me,” I warned.
That was all I said before I gently pushed her aside.
She tried to block me again but I stormed off.
If Blaire was here, where was Michelson? He must have been the one sneaking out the back door of the mansion.
For Blaire to be this comfortable showing up at my door, she had to be covering for him.
At that point, I knew exactly what I had to do. I started following Michelson.
