194-Following Her Scent
194-Following Her Scent
Kedron:
After the old lady shared the little information she knew about Yuna’s condition, I returned to the land more restless than ever.
I only knew a few things, and one of them was that she told me to focus on the scent.
She handed me an herb and said it would only work for a few days.
She was using the last of her magic to help me, and I truly wanted to make the most of it.
After taking the herb, she explained that I was supposed to sense my mate’s scent on other people.
It would guide me toward finding the person who had abducted her.
Once I returned home, I walked into an unusual scene.
“You’re just a useless vampire,” Lady Andrea shouted. “A maid now, with your king not wanting you. Beside him, you’re nothing. I’ll make sure I find a way to get rid of you and throw you out of the mansion.”
She was throwing a tantrum, yelling at someone, and from the sound of her voice, I could already tell she was arguing with Violet.
I stepped into the hallway, and sure enough, the two were facing each other.
“Why are you so hostile toward me, Your Highness?” Violet asked, making me realize just how irritating she could be.
I had been right all along, there was something off about this woman.
“Oh, cut the crap. I’ve seen you circling Whitlock’s room like a fucking bumblebee,” Lady Andrea spat. “What are you intending to do, huh? Don’t you know, even if his one mate died, his other mate is still alive? Are you trying to steal him, you fucking bitch? Just because you are young, you think you can have anyone you want?”
As Lady Andrea continued to scream, I got the gist of it, and I must say I was surprised.
As soon as I stepped into view and their eyes landed on me, I watched the look of fear on Violet’s face.
“That is not true,” Violet began to defend herself. “I am not that disgusting of a person to go after someone else’s mate, the man who is so much older than me.”
She began to explain, shaking a little, either from anger or from embarrassment, because fear was not something I expected her to feel.
“Ah, so that is why you are changing your tone now,” Lady Andrea sneered. “Kedron, look what your loyal soldier is doing. She is seducing your father.”
I moved my eyebrows up, tilting my head at Violet.
“Your Highness, that’s not true. I would never—”
She gasped, but I showed her my palm to silence her.
“If you try to drug him like you tried to drug me, you will be back in the basement. And this time, I assure you nobody will touch you inappropriately, you will be punished according to werewolf law.”
My tone was stern, and my words made Lady Andrea gasp.
“She tried to drug you? Why the fuck is this woman still in the castle?” she screamed, suddenly realizing how dangerous Violet could be.
I kept staring down at Violet, watching the utter shock in her eyes.
She did not expect me to remember or bring it up.
I was not afraid to say that someone had tried to drug me.
A man can be a victim too, no matter how powerful he is.
The minute you let your guard down, those who take advantage appear and that is what happened to me.
“I will let you two deal with it, because I really don’t have time for this,” I stated.
As I was about to leave, I thought of something, if Violet could seduce my father, it would become much harder to get her punished for hurting my mother.
My father would never believe us then. I knew he had loved my mother a lot, and now she was gone.
I did not know what kind of sorceress Violet could be.
I stopped and turned to look at them again. Lady Andrea was panicking, and rightly so.
“You are right, she is not going to stay in the mansion anymore. I will take her back to Goya, where all the other vampires are.”
The minute I mentioned the vampire island, Violet’s eyes filled with tears. That was it, she had to go.
“You're going to send me back to the Vampire Land?” Violet asked, ignoring Lady Andrea, who was nodding in agreement.
“That would be the right thing to do. We should just get rid of her,” Andrea muttered.
Now that Yuna was gone, Lady Andrea was trying to remove Violet so that no threat remained.
For the first time, I agreed with her. However, there was one problem.
Sending Violet away would not be a punishment for killing my mother and ruining Yuna’s reputation.
Before I could say anything or before Lady Andrea could stir more trouble, the words must have reached my father’s ears.
He stormed out of his room, then composed himself, clasped his hands behind his back, and began to stroll toward us.
“What is going on here?” he demanded, glaring first at me, then at Andrea.
When his eyes landed on Violet, his expression softened.
I knew that look well. It was the look of a man deeply in love.
“Your Highness, they are saying they will send me back to Goya. I don’t want to go there. I don’t belong among other vampires,” Violet said in a helpless tone, one she rarely used.
She was a chameleon. She knew my father loved to play the hero.
He had once saved my mother, and now Violet was doing the same thing. It did not look good, for any of us.
“You don’t need to be afraid,” my father declared. “My son may have once saved you and kept you close, but now it is my decision that you will stay as my right-hand soldier. I will see who dares to send you away.”
As he finished, Lady Andrea gasped, realizing the matter had already gone too far.
