Chapter Hundred And Thirty Three
Maxwell
Christopher holds his son closer to him. “You guys go! David needs you, go!” he yells at us and Mama Tife and the other witches do a spell to find the other veil. They stop holding hands and they face the windows.
“Of course.” Mama Tife says. “Why didn’t we know this before?” she and the others reach out for the window and bring down the veil, and the next thing we know, we’re not looking at a window anymore. We spot David and Miguel all tied up. What? I’m confused. Why is Miguel tied up?
I rush over there.
“David!” I yell David looks at me.
“Max, you found me.” He says with a smile and I place my hand on his cheek.
“I will always find you.” I say, kissing him, and then we both look into each other’s eyes before my vicious eyes look straight at Miguel.
“You,” I say viciously.
“Hey, Max.” He smiles nervously.
“This is all your fault.” I’m about to wrap my hands around his neck.
“No! Miguel was tricked by Dura Max. Don’t be angry with him.” He says as Doug uses his claws to get the ropes off him the rest are helping David’s parents. I look at Miguel with a scowl on my face.
“Look, you don’t have to forgive me. I wouldn’t forgive me either.” he says. “but we have to get out of here and find Dura; he’s planning something evil; he’s ready to take over the world.”
“Maybe all this would be much easier if we just killed you, because we got confirmation that to get rid of the summoned we have to kill the summoner.”
“That is true.” Doctor Antoine confirms.
“Max! Really?” David scolds me.
“But it’s true you know I’m right,” I say to him, then I look at Miguel, who has his head down. If he was tricked by Dura then he’s much of a victim of this as we are. So I roll my eyes, and I bring the ropes that surround him off him.
“Where’s Clara?” I ask him and he smiles again.
“She’s at home; she doesn’t know about any of this. I cast a spell on her to make her think she’s actually selling perfumes.”
“Hmm, and let me guess, you and her aren’t even friends.”
He looks down. “I have no friends.” and what am I supposed to feel bad for him? No, I’m not going to.
“So where’s Dura right now?” Harper asks.
“He’s somewhere around here. It’s dangerous to be here, he’s planning something.” Miguel says.
“That bastard,” David says then he moves over to his parents. “Mom, dad are you okay?”
“We’re fine dear.” his mom says.
“You’re a werecat.” his dad says. David looks away from them. “I wanted to tell you, but I didn’t know how.”
“Hey, hey you don’t need to apologize to us. We were the ones who have been lying to you for a long time.” Says Antonio.
“I guess we’re even now.” David laughs and the couple joins him in the laughter. I’m glad to see that they’re safe and sound.
“I’m really sorry I dragged you guys into this mess.” We hear Miguel say and we whip our head to look at him. And he’s carrying the golden sword. I flinch, moving backwards,s, wondering what he’s going to do with that.
“Miguel?” David calls his name also wondering what is going on here. And what he’s planning to do with the sword.
“The summoner has to be killed for Dura to go back to the underworld right?” he asks Doctor Antoine.
“Yes,” he affirms and now I know why he’s holding the sword and what he’s about to do right now.
“Miguel, don’t do this I beg you.” David pleads.
“Again, I’m sorry.” and that’s when he stabs himself in the abdomen. David’s mom screams.
David
Miguel has fallen to the ground, and my parents kneel down beside him, crying their eyes out to him. I just stand there watching the twin brother I never knew dying. Blood rushes out of his mouth and there’s death in his eyes.
“I’m really sorry I abandoned you,” Mom says. And now I have to imagine another life where Miguel is my brother. Dura didn’t get into the heads of the people who convinced my parents to abandon him. Now he’s dead just when I thought we were actually going to work things out with each other.
But I guess this was always going to happen. Miguel had to die for Dura to go back to the underworld.
“I-I-” Miguel is trying to say something, but death will not allow him to.
I kneel next to my parents and I hold his hand. “It’s okay, bro. You can talk to us. We’re here.” I say. and I don’t know if it’s just me or if I see a smile on Miguel’s face. Wait a minute, he is smiling. But it’s not a cute little smile he has on his face.
“I’ll see you all in hell.” he spits blood and I’m taken aback by that statement. I look at my parents and they’re also confused.
“Oh my God. His eyes!” Felicity shouts, and when we look at his eyes, it’s gone pitch black. My parents fall backwards in fear, and now I know that the person I’m holding isn’t Miguel; it’s Dura. Dura has gotten into Miguel’s body.
I move away from the bastard and Miguel’s body begins to float in the air. Dura has successfully taken over.
“Ah, I feel so free!” he turns over to Doctor Antoine. “Thank you, Doctor.”
“My pleasure.” he bows.
“What?” Mama Tife exclaims. “You’ve been working for that demon?”
“What can I say, I am the evil man everyone wants me to be.”
“Oh no,” Felicity says under her breath and now she probably thinks that it’s her fault for introducing Destiny to this man.
“I told you about the consequences of you crossing me,” Dura says and I watch him with so much disdain. I can’t believe this. We were so fucking close. We were about to defeat this son of a bitch. Fuck! I feel so stupid right now. I feel like a loser, I feel- I feel-
I feel my head spinning and spinning. What could this mean? Is Dura doing this to me? I don’t understand what’s-
Oh my God. I’ve been teleported to this dark yet holy-looking place. I look around me and I see cloaked people everywhere. I’m in the middle of them as they’re gathered around me. I know these cloaked people. Could I be dreaming? How could I be dreaming in a time like this?
“Are you guys trying to tell me something?” I ask them but they all seem to be chanting something. Something that I do not understand. The chants go louder and deeper.
“What are you trying to say?” I ask them, and they don’t answer me. They keep chanting and chanting, and I don’t understand what the fuck they’re chanting.
“David Ramirez. You are chosen to bring the true death to Dura once and for all.” I hear a loud feminine voice shout and I hear loud footsteps like a giant is headed toward me. I look ahead, and I see a woman, not a cat. No a woman with a cat head and a tail.
Oh my God could it be?
I watch as this woman gets closer and closer and she reveals herself to me. I look at her in awe.
This is not just a woman this is an ancient Goddess.
The woman who gave me this power.
The badass Goddess herself.
Goddess Baster. I am standing before Goddess Bastet. The creator of the werecats.
I look up to her in utmost admiration.
“You’re the Goddess Bastet,” I say to her.
“And you’re David Ramirez, the warrior, the protector, the chosen one, the… uniter.”
Yes, it’s her alright. I cannot believe I’m standing before a Goddess right now.
I take a bow because that’s the first thing that comes to my mind. I am standing before a Goddess so I do have to be punctual.
“Please get up there’s no time. You have to go back and get ready to defeat Dura once and for all. I knew that those chains in the underworld would not be able to keep him and he was surely going to use someone from his bloodline to escape.”
“But how do I even defeat him? He’s too powerful.”
“And so are you.” She says, and I almost scoff, but this is the Goddess; I don’t want to do anything stupid.
“You doubt yourself. I never knew you to be the type who doubts himself,” she says to me, and I look away, maybe because a lot has fucking changed.
“David,” she says, and I jump when I see she’s no longer gigantic, but she’s the same height as me. She giggles. “please don’t be frightened I want us to look at each other eye to eye when I tell you this.” she says.
“Okay?”
“I chose you to be a uniter because you exhibited loads of courage; you stood up for your friends and yourself against people who were either against your race or your sexuality. I could have chosen someone else in your family like the other Miguel.”
“Ugh.” I grimace. And she laughs.
“I know he wasn’t my choice. I chose you because before you became a werecat, you had power; you were stronger than any werecat or, dare I say, any God.”
Wow, I’ve never heard this much praise and motivation from someone, but this isn’t someone this is a Goddess. She chose me for a reason and I’m seeing the reason now.
I’m the uniter, and I’m more powerful than I think, and I believe that I’m going to defeat Dura and he won’t be hurting anyone again. He has to be destroyed and I’m going to destroy him.
“What do I have to do?” I ask the Goddess.
