Chapter Twenty-Five
Chapter Twenty-Five
"Alana! Alana! Can you hear me?" Mason... he is still here. No.
"Oh, god fuck...! Alana, please! Say something!" I can feel hands shaking me gently but yet I can barely feel it. His voice echos to me but I'm unable to respond. I feel my mouth moving, my mind working but nothing is coming out. Nothing is being said. All I can hear is Mason, chanting my name over and over, begging me for a response but I just can't give it.
"Alana, god please Alana , say something! I'm sorry. Fuck! I'm sorry!" I hear his voice grow so weak, so vulnerable. So bloody vulnerable...
"Sir?" I hear another voice emerge. I attempt to open my eyes but all I can see is blurred images and I can feel my breath coming out in short spurts. What is wrong with me?
"P-p-please help me. She collapsed. I-I d-don't know what t-to do." Oh Mason... my poor mason. MY Mason.
"Ok Sir, just wait there. I'll call an ambulance." Footsteps fade into the distances shortly after I hear those words. Ambulance? No. No ambulance. No. I don't want that. I need to get home. Mum and Dad need Mason and I back home. Oh god, Mum. Mum will be so worried. I can feel my heart rate changing a little as I suddenly think about my Mother. She will panic if she knows about this. I can't be putting pressure on my Mother. Wait. Dad. Dad is suppose to be picking us both up. Very soon. No. No.
"Alana...? Alana can you see me?" I hear Mason say in a lower tone this time. I move my eyes around and then try squinting them shut for a moment, trying to regain my high sight. Everything is a complete blur. Everything comes through fuzzy and my eye sight is not at all reliable in this precise moment as I lay on this horrible office like carpet in this musty atmosphere corridor.
Then I hear whispers. Numerous whispers. So many. Oh god. Are there other students surrounding me? Please god, don't tell me I have made a scene to all the students.
"Alana... look up. I'm right here." I hear Mason's voice again but closer. I can feel his breath against my cheek. I open my eyes again for a second attempt.
Mason. He's right there. In front of me. My eye sight is still slightly fuzzy but I can see him in a slightly clearer now. A shade of light begins to cascade around his head and I find myself wondering if I am hallucinating or if it's the light from the sun casting in through the window.
"M-Mason...." I try but my voice is so weak and my head is so unbalanced, even whilst lying flat in the floor. The ground feels so hard underneath me, causing instant discomfort to my muscles as I lay there helplessly. I'm motionless but can do nothing about it. I can barely feel. Barely speak. I can even barely think yet I can proceed to think a load of mumble jumble .
"Just breathe ok? An Ambulance is on its way I think..." Mason tells me. I watch as his lips are moving much slower than his voice. Everything around me is so slow yet the words are coming out normal. I cannot seem to match the two different speeds of life together. I'm so confused.
"M-Mason... Mason..." I try. I'm so weak. I hate it.
"No." He says, and his face moves closer into me. "Don't try to talk ok? Just breathe. Stay calm."
"Don't let her move, she needs to stay there. She might have a head injury. It's dangerous to move her." A familiar voice says from above me. I take my head back a little and see George staring down at me. His blonde hair has tucked up slightly into curls today. I can smell his after shave. It's very strong. It invaded my nostrils so much that I feel the urge to vomit.
"Go away, u don't want you near her." Mason snaps in a vicious tone, and I try to hold my hand up to stop him from lashing out once again. "Mason.." I warn, unable to say anymore than just his name. I feel so tired. I can barely get a sentence out.
"You ok, Alana?" George says, smiling down at me. I nod and let out a groan. I have no idea why I'm so helpless right now. Why can't I respond properly. Why can't I just tell Mason to shut up like I usually do. Where has all my energy gone? Where is everything? Where am I? I no longer know.
It's not long before I realise I'm just laying this. Hopeless, useless and helpless.
I am of no use or help in these passing seconds. What I crave to do is slap Mason right round the face, just to make him understand that I want him to stop challenging George. With the right Mason is going, I am starting to wonder if George will want to stop being my friend. He doesn't deserve constant rude encounters with my brother.
However, I wish Mason wouldn't have even come here. I ... I...
