Chapter Twenty-Six
Chapter Twenty-Six
I open my eyes to a large, white and bright room. Well, I say a room. More like a blank, empty, white box. Nothingness. Apart from strange metal boxes, some empty beds along walls, shower curtains and...doctors? Men in long white coats.
I sit up abruptly, looking around, my eyes not knowing where to go to first. Shit. This is hospital. I'm in a hospital! What, when, where...why!?
"Alana!" I hear a familiar voice cry from my left. "My darling! Thank goodness, you're awake!!" It takes me a few seconds to suddenly realise it is my Mother's voice. My Mother is here.
I look to my left where she sits in a chair beside this plan white bed I am cocooned in. "Mum?" I say in a questionable tone, feeling slightly dazed. My Mother just looks at me with sheer worry, like something horrendous has happened but I have no idea what. Then, I see my Dad walk in with a slightly older men wearing a long white coat.
"Why, Alana...you're awake, I see." The man says as he walks up to the end of my bed. My Dad however, says nothing and avoids eye contact with me. I watch as his gaze averts to my Mother almost instantly as he reaches my bed. My Mother looks up at him, taming his hand in hers. They look stricken by something horrible. What have they been told? For the moment, I still remain dazed and confused, certain this is all a dream and I am going to wake up soon.
One thing I realise is that Mason is not here...
I shift my head to the side, letting out a groan. "W-where's Mason?"
"It's ok sweetie, Mason is outside having a cigarette," My Mum responds.
"Yes, after I have been lecturing him to give it up!" My Dad pipes up, walking up from behind her. I let out a light giggle, unable to help myself feel the slight humour to this whole situation. My mother creases her brows in response, as if I am some weirdo for laughing. "Sweetheart, you shouldn't be laughing. This is serious".
I roll my eyes in response at her immediate lecture. "Mum, please. I am fine."
"Clearly not, you would not have collapsed if you were." My Dad joins in.
I sigh, "Dad, please...don't. Just leave it ok."
"Yes, I strongly suggest you allow your daughter to rest, this is not the time." The Doctor says calmly, stepping forward in his long white coat. I find myself staring at him, looking intently at his badge which reads his name. 'Dr Solomon'.
My Mother sighs, picking her handbag up and taking her house keys out of it. "I am going to pop home, get some of your things."
"Wait, what?" I say, trying to sit up, but my Dad gently pushes my shoulder back down.
"Well, you're staying overnight of course." She answers, looking over her shoulder and then back at Dr Solomon.
"No, no...I don't want to stay overnight. What abut my studies? What about Mason? I-"
"Alana....calm." Dad interrupts me, placing his hand onto my shoulder, his thumb softly carressing the bruised skin. "Mason is fine. He's outside and you University is aware of the incident."
"What do the results show?" My mother averts her attention from Dad and I, her gaze fixing on Dr Solomon. "What made this happened?"
"The results are inconclusive at the moment, but there is evident symptoms of dizziness that may have brought the faint on." He responds to her, picking his clipboard back up and referring back to his notes. At this point I feel like screaming despite my Dad trying to sooth me.
"How can they be inconclusive, surely you know SOMETHING!?" My Mum's voice grows with rage. She is becoming her usual impatient self. Before Dr Solomon can respond to her aggravation, I interrupt, "I want to see Mason."
Mum and dad both snap their heads towards me, both their lips parted in what seems like shock. "W-what?" My mother says, looking between me and the doctor. "Hunny, I don't think that's a wise ide-"
"Shut up, Mum! PLEASE! I want to see Mason, bring him in."
My Dad leans forward, "Alana-"
"NOW!" I yell, eventually losing myself in this moment of madness. I cannot take anymore of my parents.
I need to speak to Mason. I need to speak to him now.
