Chapter 43:.Coming right up
Electra POV
Arriving home, exhausted from the long day, I pushed open the door and was immediately enveloped in the warm glow of the living room. My gaze fell upon the most precious sight - my baby, peacefully sleeping on the sofa, her tiny chest rising and falling with each gentle breath.
I walked softly towards her, not wanting to disturb her serene slumber. Her tiny hands were curled into fists, and her soft, pink lips were slightly parted, emitting tiny puffs of air.
" Why did you let her sleep on the sofa?" I asked her nanny, trying to keep my voice down. "Why didn't you take her to her room?"
Nanny looked up from her seat beside my baby, a sympathetic smile on her face. "She just fell asleep, and she insisted on waiting for you because you promised to spend the night with her. But she fell asleep before you came home, and I didn't want to move her."
I felt a pang of guilt and regret, scooping up my baby into my arms. "There was traffic, that's why I'm late," I explained, feeling apologetic.
Nanny nodded understandingly. "I know it must have been hectic ma'am. These things happen."
As I cradled my baby close, inhaling her sweet scent and feeling her warm breath on my skin, all the stress and frustration of the day melted away. I glanced at the clock, realizing how late it was.
"Let's get her to bed," I whispered to Nanny, carrying my baby towards her room.
With Nanny's help, we tucked my baby into her cozy bed, and I sat beside her, stroking her soft hair and watching her sleep.
"I will be with her tomorrow. It's the weekend, you can take some days off," I said to her nanny.
"I promised to be here tomorrow," the nanny replied. "We planned on going to the zoo together. She said she wanted to see animals."
"I'll do that myself. There's no need for you to come," I said, smiling.
"Alright, ma," the nanny said, bowing slightly.
"Thank you for taking care of her today," I added.
The nanny smiled and headed for the door. "Have a wonderful weekend, ma."
"You too," I replied.
As the nanny left, I turned my attention to my baby, still fast asleep. I gently brushed a strand of hair from her forehead.
"Tomorrow's going to be fun, sweetie," I whispered.
I leaned over and kissed her softly, feeling grateful for this precious time together.
I felt a pang of guilt for haven't been able to spend more time with her. I wished I could be a better mother, but life's circumstances had made it challenging.
"All the same, I am doing everything for her," I reminded myself.
My thoughts drifted to her father, and my heart hardened. I was determined to protect my child from his toxic influence.
"I'm trying so hard to keep her safe from him," I whispered, my resolve strengthening.
For her sake, I would keep pushing forward, no matter the difficulties.
I gently stroked her hair, feeling a deep love and connection.
"You deserve the best, my baby," I whispered. "And I'll give it to you, no matter what."
As I sat beside her, watching her sleep, I knew I would continue fighting for our future, for her happiness.
I covered her with the soft blanket, making sure she was cozy, before heading out of the room.
I stepped into my closet, shedding my worn-out clothes, and letting out a sigh of relief.
Next, I made my way to the bathroom. The warm water and soothing quietness calmed my frazzled nerves.
After refreshing myself, I slipped into my comfortable nightie and slid my feet into my plush slippers.
Feeling relaxed, I headed back to her room. As I entered, her peaceful slumber tugged at my heartstrings. I sat gently beside her, watching her chest rise and fall with each gentle breath.
With a tender smile, I leaned over and kissed her forehead.
"Goodnight, my little angel," I whispered.
Settling in beside her, I wrapped my arms around her, holding her close.
In this serene moment, all my worries faded away, replaced by the pure joy of being with my child.
As my eyelids grew heavy, I let the soothing sound of her breathing lull me into a peaceful sleep.
"Mummy, mummy!" Her tiny voice pierced through my sleep, instantly waking me up.
I rubbed my eyes, disoriented, and realized it was morning. The last thing I remembered was watching her sleep; I hadn't intended to drift off.
My neck ached from the awkward position I'd slept in, but the sight of her bright smile made the discomfort worthwhile.
"Hey baby, how are you?" I asked, stretching my stiff neck.
She giggled, her eyes sparkling. "I'm hungry, mummy."
I laughed, swinging my legs over the side of the bed. "Okay, let's get you some breakfast."
As I stood up, my baby threw her arms around my neck, hugging me tightly.
"I love you, mummy," she whispered.
My heart swelled with love. "I love you too, baby."
With her still clinging to me, I made my way to the kitchen to prepare a nourishing breakfast for my little angel.
"What would you like to eat, anything for my baby Gladys today?" I asked, and she smiled mischievously.
"Mum, aren't you going to work today, and when did you get back last night?" She finally asked the question I was expecting her to ask, because she's not the type to forget promises.
"I got stuck in traffic, and I didn't want to disturb your sleep, that's why I didn't wake you," I explained. "And about work, I'm taking today and tomorrow off to spend time with my baby."
Her eyes widened with excitement. "Really, mum?" she shouted, bouncing up and down.
I nodded positively, smiling. "Yes, really. We're going to have a fun-filled day, just the two of us."
Gladys squealed with delight, throwing her arms around me. "Yay! Thank you, mum."
I hugged her back, feeling grateful for this precious time together. "So, what's for breakfast? Pancakes, waffles, or eggs?"
Gladys thought for a moment before responding.
"I want pancakes, mum."
"Coming right up," I said, heading to the kitchen with my little companion by my side.
