Chapter 197
Chapter 197
AMELIA
I still cried whenever I felt alone. I still cried to sleep knowing he was gone because he wanted me to live.
The feeling of losing someone I loved hit differently. It felt like I lost a part of me, a part of my soul.
I woke up to the blinding light streaming from the opened window. Or at least I felt like I just woke up when the image of my father appeared before me.
“Dad?” I sat up on the bed. I was still sleeping in the same bed I shared with Lucius. “Why did you let it happen? Why did you accept his deal? Now I’m all alone.”
“You’re not alone, Amelia.”
I wiped the first tear that fell on my cheek. “I died twice. You should have let me die. I can’t. I can’t take it anymore. Lucius was a good man. He had a lot of things to live for.”
“And you don’t?” he asked me calmly.
“I know life isn’t fair, but I don’t deserve another chance. I would have swapped places with him. These people need their alpha.”
“Amelia.” He stood before me. “He accomplished his mission in life. He left a legacy that you can continue and will live on over the centuries. This is what he wanted for you, and the child.”
“What child?” My eyes widened as I stared at him. I was both shocked and happy, and I was also terrified. “What child? I’m pregnant?”
“You want a child.” It wasn’t a question but a statement.
“Yes, I do. If I lost Lucius, at least he left a part of him with me. It’s his, right?”
He smiled and leaned in to touch my flat abdomen. “He is, and I bless him to be as strong as both of you combined and to be a good man.”
“He? He’s a boy?” I cried in joy. “Thank you, Dad, but why does he have to grow up without a father.”
“He will grow up with a father, Amelia. I just want to remind you that he’s special.”
“What do you mean? Will have permanent wings?”
“No, but your son will be the greatest leader of his time. There will be just and peace in his lifetime. You only have to guide him to live in humility and humbleness.”
“I promise, I will.”
“Amelia, the reason why Lucius is gone is because twenty-five years from now the twins will rage war against each other. One with the power of fire, the fiery of a dragon, and the other the most intelligent and strong warrior being that can soar up the sky. There will be chaos, divisions between clans, disorders in supernatural worlds, a lot of lives will be lost, and the werewolf packs will never be the same again. They will leave underground, and no peace can ever be attained as long as the two brothers are alive.”
I sucked in a breath as I got up. My heart still pumped hard.
“Are you okay?”
“You know you don’t have to do this.” I lifted my gaze at Drak.
The sun was already up. He always checked up on me before I went to bed or woke up in the morning.
“You are under my care for as long as you’re living under this roof.” He took a seat on the chair where Lucius always sat when he started to deteriorate. He loved to watch the sunrise.
“Maybe I should go home then.”
He smiled. “This is your home, too.”
I went silent for a while when my chest felt heavy. “I missed him. I don’t think it will ever change. I will always feel the emptiness in my chest. What was his last words to you?”
“To take care of you the same way I took care of him, but you know for a fact it was bullshit.” He chuckled, yet his eyes were almost empty. He really missed his alpha.
“How so?”
“He took care of me more than I took care of him.”
I smiled at him. “You always had his back. You remained loyal till his last breath. He treated you like his son, Drak.”
“He treated everyone like his children, Amelia. I can’t even be one percent of him. And I hope you’d treat everyone like your children, too.”
I nodded at him. “Then don’t be like him. There’s only one Lucius. Be your own man. Take a different path that he could be proud of you.”
“Thank you. That’s very kind.”
I came back home to Ryden. I didn’t expect to meet him outside the door, smiling. “Did Drak call you ahead of time?”
“Hey, ladybug.” He opened his arms for me, and I pressed my body against him, my head resting on his chest.
“I missed you, Alpha.”
“I missed you more.” He cupped my face and kissed me softly on the lips. “Welcome back home, Luna.”
Wincing, I closed my eyes. “I have something to tell you.”
His expression didn’t change. He was still smiling, so happy his eyes were shining. “I know, my love. We’re having a baby.”
“No. We’re not.” I looked up at the sky to keep the tears from falling. With my hand propping on my hip, I shook my head. “I’m so sorry, Ryden.”
“No, no, no.” He pressed his lips on my forehead and looked right into my eyes. “Amelia, look at me. The baby is ours because it’s growing inside you, and I will treat him like my own, love him like my own because he’s made with love. His parents love him very much.”
I didn’t ask him how he was so sure it was not his. Instead, I sobbed on his chest while he stroked my hair and said sweet nothings to me. “I don’t deserve you.”
“Let’s just say we both don’t deserve each other because we’re too awesome.”
I was a mess. Maybe it was a pregnancy hormone. I cried and laughed at the same time. “I love you with all my heart, Ryden.”
“I love you more.” Suddenly, I heard footsteps and murmurs. A lot of them. When I turned around, the boys and the girls were walking in our direction, carrying baskets and plastic bags. Zeph and my parents were here, too. “What’s going on?”
“I called them to come. We’ll have a little picnic outside since the weather is good.”
“A little picnic?” I arched a brow at him. “You call it a little picnic? Fifteen heads are not little, Alpha.” I met them halfway and gave them hugs and kisses.
“You can’t have a picnic without us, bitch!”
I laughed out loud as I turned to my right. Theia just came out of the portal, grinning.
“Wow.” I looked at her neck with a mark. “I’m keeping my mouth shut. I’m not gonna grill you with questions, but congratulations.” I hugged her tight. “I missed you, T.”
I also went to Ren who tied his hair in a bun. “Hey. You look great.”
“Thanks. How are you holding up?”
I sighed deeply. “He wanted me to enjoy my life, so I will, for him, and for everyone I care about.”
Nora and Gaia were also here.
“How’s the training going?”
“On the first week, I thought I was going to die,” Gaia said, laughing and looking at Nora. “But we have each other.”
“That’s good to know you’re taking care of each other.” I hugged Nora. “I heard your father is doing well.”
“Yes. With his soul back, he becomes the father I always wanted. He shared a cell with Victor, and they’re grateful for you. A fair trial will start next week.”
“I’m glad to hear it.”
“Thank you for seeing him, Amelia. He’d been asking me, but I was ashamed to ask you.”
I smiled tightly. “You’re the reason why I went to see him.”
The three witches widened their eyes at me before they broke into a smile.
I gave them a warning before I faced everyone who was done preparing the picnic with blankets spread on the ground.
I looked at Ryden. “Do the honor, baby.”
“I have an announcement to make,” Ryden told our amazing people. When everyone went silent, Zarah made magic, showering them with petal flowers and flying butterflies.
“We’re expecting!”
