AMELIA
Three years later
Enochian Institute
“Okay, bud. Are you ready?” Ryden towered at his son as he tried to prepare him for his first day of school.
“No, Dad. Please, don’t call me buddy or bud anymore. I’m six years old. Alex is fine.”
I looked at them and tried hard not to grin. When Ryden saw my smile, I looked away.
“You will always be my boy, so I can call you bud or buddy until you get a girlfriend or have kids on your own.”
“Mom, I need help here. I want to be like every kid at the institute.” When he gave me this puppy-eyes look, the same look he gave me when he wanted to be with his Uncle Ren or Uncle Drak.
I knelt before him as I fixed his coat.
Alex was carrying a blue backpack. I looked right into his blue-green eyes. Every time I looked at him, he always reminded me of his father.
“My love, listen to me. You grow up so fast. Me and your dad still see you like our two-year-old boy. That’s why Dad still calls you buddy, and it’s actually cool that you and Dad are best friends. Don’t you want that?”
“Fine.” He looked up at Ryden. “Sorry, Dad.”
“It’s okay, Alex.” Ryden smiled proudly at him. “Remember, treat everyone nice, okay? Don’t show off.”
“I will, Dad, but first can you take me to Papa’s name on the wall?”
“Of course, son.” Ryden took Alex’s hand as they walked into the massive hallway of the Enochian Institute.
It has been two years since Enochian had operated from the ground and opened to the public. No more shadow organization or operating under the radar. I wanted this institute to teach everyone that every being was fair and had the right to learn.
All beings were welcome, and so far, we had one hundred and fifty students from primary, secondary, and tertiary.
We had werewolves, Lycans, Seelies, Vampires, Witches, Werecats, Panthers, and even Dragons that I thought were extinct.
After I graduated college, I became a guest speaker and a consultant. We dedicated a werewolf training center after Lucius.
While Alec and Victor had been serving twenty years in werewolf prison, Nora took over the family business two years ago, and Case Woodrow became the Head of the Werewolf Council.
I followed Ryden and Alex towards the walls where agents and every individual had made a significant impact in establishing the new institute, and that included, Lucius.
“That’s Papa!” Alex exclaimed with pride and pointed at Lucius’ name and picture on the top.
“Yes, that’s your Papa,” Ryden said as he smiled at me.
When Alex turned six months old, by the time, he showed significant development. He was taller and grew fast. He had learned how to walk and talk, and we told him everything, who he was, his father, and what we were. At the age of one, he learned how to read and memorize books.
Sometimes it was scary to have a gifted child, but with everyone around, we managed to make it more fun. Zarah had taught him how to control his power because he started to manifest telekinesis.
“Alexander Lucius Whitmann was a great guy, a hero, an outstanding agent, a fierce warrior, and a compassionate leader. He helped parents and kids find their new homes. One day, when you grow up, you will choose your own path, and I want you to remember what kind of person your Papa was.”
“I wanna be like him. I wanna be a warrior.”
I smiled as I felt my heart just melted.
“You will be, son. So you start by going to school and learn.”
“But I already memorized all the books you have at home. Why can’t I have PlayStation?”
Ryden looked at me.
I just shrugged and chuckled. “You can do it.”
I turned around and found Hawk. “’sup Director?”
“Hey. How’s the little guy?”
“Don’t let him hear that,” I whispered to him.
“I still heard it, Mom.”
I faced Alex. “Honey, we’ve talked about it many times. You can’t eavesdrop on people’s conversations, okay?”
“I’m sorry, Mom.” He then looked up at Hawk. “Hi, Director, I want to learn something new. I’ve memorized all the books at home, but Mommy and Daddy said, I still have a lot to learn.”
“Your parents are right, young man. It doesn’t mean you’ve read all the books, you’re done learning. Learning starts when you are born until—”
“We turn into dust,” Alex added, making me share a look with Ryden.
“That’s right. Now let’s go and take you to your class.” Hawk took his tiny hand, the free one waving at us.
“Bye, sweetheart. Enjoy your classes.”
“Bye, Mommy. Bye, Daddy. I will tell Aunt Zarah to teach me how to fly! And I want to see Uncle Drak later.”
“Oh, boy.” I sighed deeply as I shook my head.
Ryden chuckled. “He’ll be fine.”
“I’m not worried, baby.” I held his hand as we walked outside the institute to the parking area and took him back home.
The elemental wolves made a promise to teach students. As for Theia, she was happy with her new home with Bryan at Guston’s Pack. Zeph became the new COO of Crimson Corp while Ryden was still the CEO and President while running the packs as the Alpha King.
Drak started to train Alex in the basic steps of martial arts and how to run a pack. One day, I found him at his father’s tomb, and he said, he was talking to his father.
Ren came to see Alex and took him with him. Then Alex told us a story that he and Uncle Ren went flying and saw birds.
Life was almost perfect, and I’d never been this happier since I learned what happiness meant.
Ryden was a great mate and a wonderful father and kept his promise to treat Lucius’ son as his own. I could see he loved Alex more than anything in this world, and I was grateful for everything he’d done to me, to our son, and the words he kept to Lucius.
“What are you thinking?” Ryden took my hand and pressed it to his lips.
“I haven’t told you about my father’s prophecy if Lucius didn’t die.” I looked up at the sky as if I was looking at my father. The weather was beautiful, that was why I told him to stay outside for a moment and lay on the grass.
“Oh, yeah?”
“He said, I would bear twins.”
“Let me guess.” He placed his hand on my flat abdomen. “They are both powerful and fight for their rights to the throne.”
“Yes. One of them is yours.”
“As much as I’d love to have children, I didn’t want them to fight for power. I want them to support one another because they are siblings, and blood is thicker than water, Amelia.” He turned to me and placed his leg over mine. “Look at me, my love.”
I turned my head to his side and smiled as I touched his cheek and caressed his bottom lip.
“It’s been years, baby, and you look exactly the same. Your eyes are the mirror to your soul, and they are so gorgeous.”
“And you are as stunning as you’re ever be. You always took my breath away every time I saw your face, and your eyes, ladybug. I could drown in them.”
“I love you, Ryden. I’m glad we made it here today.”
“I love you more than anything. You and Alex are my entire world.”
“Will you kiss me?”
A wry smile broke off his face. His eyes shone with love as he looked at me. “Why don’t you kiss me? After all, I’m the alpha king.”
I rolled my eyes playfully. “And I’m the reason why you’re in your position, Alpha. Remember that. I put you there.”
He laughed out loud, cupped the back of my neck, and stared at me with intensity. His eyes darkened under the bright sun. The way he looked at me and dropped his gaze down my parted lips and sent a jolt of electricity through me.
“I will not only kiss you, Amelia. I will also fuck you hard and make sure everyone in this territory will hear you scream my name.”
“Is that so?” I bit my bottom lip, and my fingers dug into his shoulders in anticipation. “Then maybe we should think of having a baby girl.”
“Really?” His eyes widened with hope.
“Yes. Let’s do it. And we’ll call her Celine.”
“You took the words out of my mouth, my love.” His voice was a rasp. He then came on top of me and sealed it with a kiss, kissing me passionately.
“But before you get me naked, will you fly with me?”
From that day forward, I found reasons to live— my family, my packs, and everyone I cared about.
A great man may be gone, but he and his legacy will never be forgotten.
