Chapter 317 Are My Chips Enough?
Chapter 317 Are My Chips Enough?
"Don't you want to know who those people were that intercepted you?" Logan looked from her to the dented hood of her car, his expression heavy with unspoken words.
The research base stood at the foot of the mountains. The forest’s morning mist lingered in ragged patches, saturating the air with a thick, silver haze.
Sophia's almond eyes were cool as she asked back, "Sounds like you know?"
Dressed in easy, casual layers, she seemed to glow with a quiet, gentle energy. Her eyes, however, lacked that same tenderness, creating a wall of detachment that Logan couldn't miss.
Logan spat out the blade of grass from his mouth, stood up, and walked in front of her. He could smell the faint, fresh scent on her.
"I do." He didn't hide it.
He was someone who had crawled out of the mud. With his messy bangs shielding the scar by his eye, he carried an air of deceptive innocence.
"Have you forgotten about Richard? You two have history."
Pulling information about Richard from her past memories, Sophia lowered her eyes slightly, thinking carefully.
Seeing that she had remembered who Richard was, Logan continued, "The person behind Richard is the Turner family from Suncrest City. The Turner family has a daughter called Anne Turner, who's now been placed by the Turner family to learn under Samuel."
Logan saw the confusion in her eyes and continued, "And your ex-husband William just happens to be working with the Harris family."
Hearing this, Sophia lifted her head slightly.
Pulling his phone from his pocket, he opened a photo he had received and passed the device to Sophia.
"Anne has been arranged by Samuel to learn under William."
"To be precise, Anne has taken a liking to William. She's pursuing him."
She hired people to hurt her just because she likes William?
This Anne must be crazy!
If every woman who likes William in the future comes to hurt her...
Won't she ever have a peaceful day?
Sophia looked at Logan in front of her and suddenly asked, "What about you? Who's the person behind you?"
In Suncrest City, the Harris and Turner families stood as the undisputed titans of power.
How could Logan, a mere small-town gang leader, be so well-acquainted with such secrets? The depth and accuracy of his intel were suspiciously precise.
Logan said casually, "Who I am doesn't matter. The point is I can provide you with help, so..."
Closing the distance with half a step, he fixed his gaze on hers from beneath his buzz cut, his voice heavy with gravity, "You can consider working with me."
Sophia asked him with interest, "The premise of cooperation is that you have to have the ability to help me."
She glanced at his dirty work clothes and raised an eyebrow, "By laying bricks?"
Just then, Ember in the office not far away saw Sophia, who hadn't come upstairs yet, and the rough-looking worker in an atmosphere that was both tense and evenly matched, and couldn't help but raise her eyebrows.
Logan's sharp gaze turned toward where Ember was. Seeing it was her, his expression softened a bit.
"I'll take you somewhere tonight."
He leaned down, his voice unusually cold, "Then you'll see my sincerity."
Logan didn't bother waiting for a response; he simply let out a dry chuckle and walked away.
As if certain she wouldn't refuse.
Sophia tracked Logan’s dark silhouette until it faded from view, then finally turned her attention back toward the office where Ember waited.
Unlike Ryan, whose thoughts were a total mystery, Logan was an open book.
But neither of them was a good person.
A shipment of cutting-edge experimental machinery arrived today from Seraphim, all of which was installed in the newly finished building.
Sophia dedicated the entire afternoon to the painstaking task of calibrating the new equipment.
Several more machines would arrive tomorrow.
After notifying Joe that she wouldn't return tonight, she gathered her things and exited the office.
At night, the cold wind was biting.
Logan was waiting by the entrance, the moment he spotted her, he approached with an easy, casual smile.
"Ms. Johnson, you really are forgetful."
Sophia pulled her coat tighter, "I never said what time."
Even though the initiative was in his hands, Sophia always found a way to take back control.
"Fine, you win." Logan's clothes were thin, showing off his muscular build.
He glanced at the bodyguards who hadn't followed, raising an eyebrow slightly, "Aren't you afraid I'll sell you out?"
As soon as he finished speaking, a small red dot appeared on Logan's forehead.
Logan fell silent.
Sophia looked up lightly, "Lead the way."
From beginning to end, Logan never said where he was taking her.
He thought Sophia would ask, but she said nothing, not even showing a trace of curiosity on her face.
Seeing the black heavy motorcycle in front of her, Sophia's face finally showed some change.
"Get on, what are you standing there for?" Logan handed her a pink helmet, newly bought just for her.
The heavy motorcycle ran smoothly through the mountains, especially at this time, with no other vehicles. Sensing the stiffness in the woman's body behind him, Logan's smile grew wider.
He brought Sophia to a repair shop on the outskirts of Forton County, driving all the way to the innermost workshop.
"Logan!" Voices rose one after another.
Sophia took off her helmet, surveying the repair shop that was more than it seemed. The men working on cars around them also looked at her curiously, but only dared to look, not approach.
"Let's go." Logan took the pink helmet from her hand, tossed it on the bike, and led her further inside.
The freight elevator in front of them opened.
The first thing that caught her eye was an entire wall of mirrors.
Sophia felt like she was opening a mystery box, following Logan into the elevator.
Mirrors on all sides—every movement of the people inside could be seen clearly.
As the elevator chimed, the mirrored door opened. A wave of heat hit them, and everyone who saw Logan inside bowed their heads respectfully, calling him Brother Cang.
The crowded, enclosed space was filled with a mix of cigarette smoke, alcohol, and various unpleasant smells.
Sophia resisted the urge to cover her nose. Logan saw her expression through the mirror, waved for everyone to disperse, and led her to another elevator. This time going up.
When the elevator door opened this time, it was a quiet corridor.
The deafening noise from moments ago, comparable to a music festival, had completely disappeared. The people guarding the elevator entrance immediately bowed their heads when they saw Logan and Sophia.
The black-themed office revealed hidden depths once inside.
Sophia looked at these bargaining chips of Logan's, her eyes flickering slightly. An entire wall of surveillance monitors—she recognized quite a few familiar faces from the news.
She turned to look at Logan, who was already sitting on the sofa, drinking. He had taken off his jacket, revealing his work tank top underneath. No matter how you looked at him, he was just a street gang leader, yet he had such a powerful network.
He curved his lips and asked, "Are my chips enough?"
Logan approached with his glass, handing it to her as he said, "Sophia, welcome to my world."
