Chapter 318 Whorl
Chapter 318 Whorl
Sophia didn't take the drink from him. She walked over to the sofa facing the surveillance wall and sat down.
She got straight to the point, "Logan, if you're this capable, why would you need to work with me?"
Even on Logan's turf, there wasn't a trace of panic in her eyes.
Logan didn't mind that she hadn't accepted the glass. He downed the drink he'd meant for her in one gulp, then turned and sat back down in his previous spot before answering her question.
"To be precise, this isn't my capability."
He turned to look into Sophia's eyes, his voice suddenly dropping, "It's yours."
Hearing Logan's words, Sophia, who had shown little emotional response until now, she actually seemed a bit interested. Her gaze settled on his face with an expression waiting for him to continue.
"The Green family—one of the forces your grandfather left you."
Sophia's pupils contracted slightly, and her gaze grew more serious as she looked at him.
But Logan wasn't done yet.
His eyes never left Sophia's face. Seeing her eyes waver for just a moment at the mention of "the Green family" before calming down again, he lowered his gaze and dropped his casual demeanor, his face turning serious as if giving a report.
"Besides this place, there's also Suncrest City, Empire City, Sunrise City and Port City... Someone will organize a detailed list for you later."
If it were an ordinary person hearing that her grandfather had left her so many forces and so much wealth, they would surely be overjoyed.
But Sophia only saw mystery after mystery closing in on her.
Were these real forces, or just a test to throw her off?
She kept her doubts to herself.
Just then, a knock at the door interrupted their conversation.
"Let's eat something first. I noticed you've been in the lab all night without eating, so I had some late-night snacks prepared."
Two people pushing a food cart entered, quickly arranged the food on the dining table, and left.
Getting so focused on work that she forgot to eat had always been Sophia's problem.
Back at Seraphim, Lucas had kept an eye on her, and after returning home, she ate with Emily, so her three meals were basically regular.
Recently returning to her old work routine, she still wasn't quite adjusted.
She was actually a bit hungry now.
Sophia said, "Thanks for the trouble."
"Not at all. You can treat this as your own home—after all, these are all things the Green family left for their own people."
Logan kept using "the Green family" to draw closer to Sophia.
And she noticed it.
Facing his probing, Sophia maintained a faint smile, making it impossible to read her true emotions.
Logan wasn't sure whether she believed him or not.
He continued probing, "You don't trust me?"
"Logan, the principle I've always followed is, there's no such thing as a free lunch."
She gently blew on the food in her bowl, then looked up into his eyes and said, "Even if that lunch was made by my grandfather."
Hearing Sophia say this, Logan actually felt relieved.
If Sophia had immediately believed Logan's words, Logan would have worried about whether she could be a qualified partner.
The two continued their conversation.
The more they ate, the deeper the intensity in Logan's eyes grew.
Logan had chosen to bring Sophia to his secret base today to show her his cards and increase the possibility of cooperation.
Facing Logan's subtle attention, Sophia calmly continued eating from her bowl.
Honestly, the chef here was pretty good.
After they finished their late-night meal, Sophia walked over to stand before another transparent glass wall, her eyes lazy like a proud cat.
Looking at the several floors below with different themed layouts, she finally understood why so many people came to Forton County every year to do poverty relief work, yet never achieved any results.
...So they were all here.
Suddenly, her eyes sharpened as she spotted a man standing in the corridor on the third floor, smoking. He wore a silver-black half-mask, his entire being radiating an air of calm detachment.
Through the smoke, he seemed to sense her gaze too.
He looked in Sophia's direction, though he couldn't possibly see her behind the glass.
Yet the man still raised his hand, gesturing toward where Sophia stood, as if he knew someone was watching him.
After finishing his meal, Logan went to the bathroom to wash up and change into clean clothes. Just as he was about to take Sophia back, he found only an empty office.
He called someone in to ask and learned that Sophia had gone downstairs to play.
She was... playing?
Logan thoughtfully walked to where she had been standing. The air still seemed to carry the faint floral scent from her body.
He turned to see the table by the door—the gold mask he'd hung on the wall was gone.
Hidden beneath the auto repair shop was a world of intoxication and excess.
Each floor offered different entertainment—casinos, clubs, fine wines, beautiful people, pool tables, and more.
This was a money pit hidden in the darkness.
In the space of a breath, some lost everything while others made a fortune.
Crying mixed with waves of laughter, blended with heavy rock music, filling every face here with madness.
And now, Sophia, wearing Logan's gold mask, had arrived at the floor where she'd seen the man earlier.
"Open! Open! Open!"
"You really have good luck—you can win even with such difficult numbers!"
The man being praised had chips piled all around him.
He had a lollipop in his mouth, the sweet strawberry scent washing away the lingering smell of tobacco.
"Yeah, just lucky tonight."
The man seemed so drunk on his good fortune that he pushed all his chips forward.
"This guy's luck is incredible tonight—everyone should follow his bet, it's now or never!"
"What if his luck runs out? I'll bet half. I don't want to walk out of here naked."
"Haha, good point, but I like going all in. I don't believe I can't turn things around tonight!"
Hearing the noisy discussion around him, coldness flashed in the man's eyes.
His rough voice boomed loudly in the space as he laughed, "Come on, let's continue."
Just then, a faint, elegant floral scent suddenly came from behind him. As the man pushed out his chips and drew back his hand, he paused slightly.
Behind the silver-black mask, his narrow, cold eyes flickered with thought.
Sophia stood right behind him, looking at the chips just pushed onto the table, quietly standing behind the man.
Everyone's attention was focused on the table, but the man slowed his breathing, his attention drawn by the floral scent behind him.
He seemingly casually picked up the lighter on the table, but actually used its smooth, shiny surface to see the woman in the gold mask behind him.
Sophia hadn't missed his little move.
From the moment she walked up behind the man and saw the cowlick on his head that was identical to Emily's, she didn't need him to turn around to check his height or face—she already knew this man's identity.
Emily, who was watching cartoons at home, suddenly sneezed.
She touched the cowlick on her head, feeling oddly chilly.
