Chapter 68 Chapter 68
Selena
My eyes were open, but it was blurry, except for the light that shone through. A sudden ache struck my head and I groaned, my hands reaching for my head.
I closed my eyes, events flowing in.
I was kidnapped.
I snapped my eyes open.
Valeria.
“You are awake,”
I turned to my side to see Josh looking at me, sitting on a stool.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, still holding my head.
He had a look of disbelief as he looked at me. “What happened last night?” He counterasked, his tone stern.
I looked around.
I was in my room, but how? How did I get home last night?
I was….I was kidnapped then, Valeria. She was the one behind it.
God, I couldn't believe I had trusted her. How could she be so cruel, wanting to get rid of me in such a way? My skin crawled.
“I need to report someone to the police,” I moved, wanting to get down from the bed. Valeria needed to be locked, and I wasn't going to stop.
Hell being quiet back then because I was helpless, but now, I could at least do that.
“Hold on, Selena.” Josh’s hand held my arm, and I stopped to look at him.
“Calm down and tell me what happened last night. Why was everything messed up, including your room? What happened? What are the cuts on your arms?”
I looked down, and truly there were cuts in my arms. Little ones. I must have gotten it from struggling with the men.
But then, what happened after? How did Josh find me?
I turned to Josh. His face looked completely normal. If he had met me in that position, he would probably be boiling in rage now, and Valeria would already be arrested but by how he asked, it means he knows nothing.
“Where did you meet me last night?” I asked, searching his eyes.
“Where else? At home. I met you on the couch, so I brought you here, you didn't look good so I decided to stay with you.”
He wasn't lying.
I licked my lips. How was that possible? Could Valeria have changed her mind and decided not to harm me?
“So now, answer me. What happened last night?”
I looked at him. He was worried. I could tell, though he was trying not to show he was freaking out. It was better not to say everything to him to avoid worrying him more.
I swallowed. “Getting home last night, I found our apartment blacked out, and just then, I was ambushed, and when I woke up, I was attacked by my work colleague, Valeria.” I looked at him taking it in.
“Recently she had bruises all over her face and I have tried helping her. But who would have thought she had planned against me?”
Everyone, Selena.
Now that I think about it, she was never nice. Even when her face was bruised, I had tried helping her yet her heart was vicious.
All her words were about her stupid obsession with Theodore. He didn't have a reason to harm her.
Theodore may be cruel, but he wasn't one to harm her. Maybe she was jealous because he had supported me against Sarah and Janet. But then, I was innocent.
“I need to report her to the police for stalking, if she could do that, who knows what would happen next? I rubbed my hands against my body.
“What happened next? How did you get home?” Josh asked, looking at him, he didn't seem convinced. I licked my lips.
“I blanked out. I don't know what happened after. Maybe someone interrupted.” It was true.
My memory was blank on what had happened after. If Josh really found me at home, how did I get home? It couldn’t be Valeria as she was bent on seeing me to the end.
Josh didn't look surprised, and I wondered why. Now, I needed to report to the police about Valeria’s deal and when she is caught, I would ask her what happened.
My eyes drifted to the clock on the wall.
“Oh, God. It’s past work time,” I rushed to move down, but once again, Josh held me back.
“I think your boss gave you a day off.” He gestured with his head to the nightstand. I took my phone and truly there was a day off from work.
But why? Even Valeria didn't get a day off when I asked for one.
Anyways, it was a good thing.
“You should be careful, Selena. I don't think your workplace is safe, especially with your boss. You know who he is, you should avoid anything that has to do with him.” Again his voice was stern, his face tight.
People of the company were truly crazy, but not everyone, for example Stephen and…and even Theodore.
I couldn't deny he was nice to me. Even yesterday, he saved me from being punished. And he acting as my boyfriend against Noah, without pay.
He may be a demon, but he has only been nice to me. People weren't nice to me unless they wanted something.
“I know, I know. I just have to be more careful and besides, I’m going to stop working there when I have enough money to start up something, so don't trouble yourself.” I reached out to touch his hand, and he let me.
“When did you get home last night? You have been spending so much time in school.”
I couldn't deny that I still wasn't used to being alone without Josh. Maybe if he was around, everything wouldn't have happened last night, but I was glad. At least, he didn't get to witness it.
“School has been busy with projects. Dad hasn't called me since the last time, what about you?” He asked.
“Me too.” The lady still hasn't gotten back to me about hearing from father. Maybe he was back home.
“Let me place a report for you at the station.” He said, standing up.
“Thank you,” I murmured as he walked out.
I placed my hand on my head.
Who could have brought me home? Who knew me to bring me home? What happened last night? I had struggled to be free from them while Valeria looked at me.
Whatever must have happened was for my favour. If I didn't blank out, who knows what would have happened to me.
I needed to be careful.
I stepped down from the bed.
I need to pack my things to leave with Theodore. I haven't been told the country we were leaving for yet. But I was excited.
The door opened and Josh stepped in. His face looked worried.
“What happened?” I turned to him.
“Valeira was found dead by a pool at her home. The police said she was raped by three men, and somehow they ended up dying beside her.”
