Chapter 218 Chapter 218

Chapter 218 Chapter 218
Selena

5 years later

“Stop it Maria, that hurts! Mommy...”

“You stop it. You are the one dragging my legs!”

My eyes widened at the sounds of Maria crying and screaming. I rolled my eyes. They were at it again.

“Are you both going to keep doing this?” I yelled and covered the soup on the table with the plates in my hand.

Where did Halley go now…

I hurried up as Maria’s crying voice intensified.

And there they were, Maria on Gael's back, dragging his hair backward and Gael held her legs in an attempt to pull her off him.

I sighed.

“Gael, let go of her legs,” I said walking towards them.

“But mommy, she is gripping hold of my hair! Tell her to let go.” He yelled as I got to them.

Gently I pulled them apart, Maria to my right and to my left was Gael.

They glared at each other especially Maria and I knew she wasn't done.

“I dont understand the two of you. When you are far from each other, you want to be together, and when you are close you only fight.” I scolded.

“I’m sorry, Mom,” Gael whispered beside me. I sighed. “Say you are sorry to Maria too,” I said to him, but he shook his head.

“I won't. She did wrong first, she should apologize first.”

I turned to Maria.

“Is that true?”

Maria pouted and then pointed to Gael, “He won't play with me that… that's why I pulled him.” Her voice lowered.

“I’m sorry.” She apologized and then she pulled her little hands from mine and walked to Gael, hugging him.

I shook my head. It was the same thing every time.

I looked behind them in search of Halley.

“Auntie Halley suddenly left. She has work.” Gael said, like he could read my mind.

I rolled my eyes. How can she leave the two brats for me to care for?

I took out my phone from my pocket and dialed her number.

“Gael, clean up and come with Maria to the dining table.”

Gael nodded and I headed back downstairs.

“Hey..I’m sorry I left suddenly. Work called and Ivan isn't around.. You will have to represent me today please..”

I sighed.. “Dont worry, I’ll take care of her. Stay safe.” I said and ended the call.

Getting to the table, I arranged the plates of food and just then, they both walked in.

“Come here..” I smiled at them as they took their seats.

“Gael, I want you to help Maria eat. I want to get ready upstairs okay? Can you do that?”

He nodded.

“Great.”

Looking at them one more time, I walked upstairs. I trust in Gael. Though he was young, my little boy was smart.

I entered the room and fell on the bed, my eyes on the ceiling. Tired.

But Gael has always reminded me of Theo.

And every time he grows a year older, I see Theo's features in him.

It has been five years.

I turned to my side and pulled my knees closer to my stomach.

Within those five years, a lot happened. So many yet I couldn't fill the void in my heart.

I still couldn't believe it and every time I still pray that a miracle would happen.

That Theo will appear..

I should be giving up now…..but how could I?

Living a world without him…like I never existed in his.

Five years ago, days after Ethan left, Rayan came to the penthouse, but I wasn't myself.

Then he said many things. Some about transferring me to another hospital, that everything was taken care of. Then I heard him drop like a document, with the haunting words,

“Boss would want you to have it. Please take care of yourself.”

Then he left.

A few days later, I opened the documents to find two envelopes inside.  Each had a credit card and the envelopes were titled "wife and child.” boldly.

Days after, it was announced that Theo’s body was found so I looked for Rayan.

I wanted to see Theo.

I went to the hospital and the company, but I wasn't allowed in.

Day after day, I tried reaching out to everyone I knew from Theo’s circle, but like the winds, they were all gone.

Even the underground was no longer in the place Josh found…..Like it just vanished.

Why?

I kept asking, but I kept arriving at an answer.

They must have hated me because I caused it.

Every harm that Theo encountered was because of me. They must all hate me.

Months later, I was heavily pregnant, but I wanted to try one more time so I went to Morocco. But how could I  find where Theo’s uncle and everyone was?

When I went there with Theo before, I had been too immersed to know my way around so I spent the week wandering around the streets of Morocco, trying to find them.

And then Gael came. My little prince.

I didn’t know if I was being punished or if it was a blessing for him to look exactly like the younger Theo.

As a baby, he would cry at irregular times of the night. And when he turned into a toddler, he was too mischievous.

Always up to something.

But I was never alone. Halley moved in.

Even when she got married to Ivan and took in, she never left my side.

And Stephen started spending most of his weekends with us, taking care of little Gael and Maria.

I found out he liked me, and I didn't want to lead him on so I told him. I was married to Theo and I was never letting anyone into my heart again.

I had thought Stephen would take a step back, but the next weekend, he came again to play with Gael.

“You don’t expect me to stop seeing Gael now, right? I still want our friendship Selena, I really do.”

His words were a relief because I didn’t want to lose him either.

Josh finished university a year ago. Though he wanted to stay with me, I pushed him to go for his master’s outside the country.

I didn't want him delaying his life purpose because of me.

Theo left so many things for me and our child, like he knew he was going to leave us.

Over the years I tried doing so many things. For one year I tried picking up schooling but I couldn't. I tried so many things.

And finally, I noticed Gael loved painting on walls.

Just like Theo.

I don't know where the idea came from, but I wanted to open a place where people could get supplies for drawing, painting, and illustration.

So I did.

After five years, I was finally alive.

“Mom, you aren’t ready yet?”

I turned to the door at Gael’s voice. He stood there in his little suit which he wore himself.

I was alive because Gael was born. I wanted to see him grow.
