Chapter 102 Chapter 102
Selena
“Oh my God! The princess is back!”
My lips widened in a smile as Halley ran out, yelling. I closed my eyes, biting my lips not to burst out laughing at her dramatic ass.
“Thank you,” I said to Zac who dropped my last suitcase. He closed the trunk of the car and walked back to me.
“I’ll help you take it in,” He grabbed one of the luggage again.
“No, no. Thank you. My brother should be home, he’ll help with it.”
He dropped it, his body seemed unsure of listening to me.
“Ohhhh, who is this handsome man?” Halley came to stand beside me, her eyes on Zac.
Come on now, girl. This was Svetlana’s man.
My heart ached, remembering I might never get to see Svetlana again. At least I could still chat with her.
“I’ll take my leave now.” I nodded, as Zac bowed. He entered the car immediately, without even looking at Halley.
What a loyal man. I smiled internally.
“What, did he just ignore me?” Halley yelled after his car.
“He did sweetheart. Let Zac be, he has someone he likes.” I said to her, picking up the suitcase Zac had dropped.
“It doesn't matter. As long as they aren't dating.” She shrugged, carrying another bag
I raised my brows at her words. What was that supposed to mean?
“You didn't mean that right? You aren't having eyes on another man, when Ivan is in the picture.” I started walking inside, and she followed me behind.
Was Josh not home yet? He won't even bother to come help me?
“Oh please, I dont want to talk about that.”
I almost dropped my luggage to ask her what she meant. Halley would never dismiss her relationship like that.
“Why? Things aren't going well between you and Ivan?”
We entered the elevator. Halley dropped the bag and folded her hands on her chest. “We broke up.”
“What?!” I almost dropped my purse as I yelled, confusion swirling in my head.
“What do you mean by that?”
Halley looked at me and smiled. “I mean, Ivan and I are no longer together. We ended things, or I ended things with him.”
That wasn't possible. They have been together since her first year of university. And I knew Halley was hella too into him, to break up. Or else she was being dramatic now.
“Since when now?”
She turned to look at the entrance. “Three weeks now.”
The elevator beeped, it opened and we stepped outside.
No wonder she suddenly decided to spend all her free time babysitting Josh. Now that I think of it, I’ve been so carried away that I failed to ask about her well-being.
“Look Halley,”
“Oh God, don't tell me you are going to start the sermon now.”
She reached my room door, opened it and we entered the apartment.
“You know I would. But before that, I’m going to have my bath, sit, and then you’ll tell me everything that happened.” It was better that way.
To be calm and collected.
Halley stared at me, and then her eyes reddened, but it was gone the next minute.
“Sure. That’s after you give me all the juicy updates on you and your, Mr Mafia cold-blooded boss Theo.” The pained look that had flashed is now replaced with happiness.
I shook my head. Something was definitely wrong.
“Whatever, let’s go out for the rest of the luggage.”
“I have it.”
I wiped my head to the door at Josh’s voice. He held the two suitcase like they weighed nothing as he closed the door.
My dear sweet brother looked like he had grown taller in a pair of blue trousers and a white hoodie.
“Josh,” Emotions surge rapidly through my veins as I rush to him, pulling him into a hug.
This is what I should have done that night.
“You must have missed me so much.” His hand rubbed the back of my head as I hugged him tight. “What are you going to do without me in this life?” He sighed.
“Both of you quit making me feel jealous of your sibling bond.”
I giggled, freeing myself from him.
“How have you been?” I asked, now holding his hand.
“What do you expect? You left me with Hally.” He smiled, then took the suitcases, passing us to my room.
“Thank you,” I muttered to Halley. She rolled her eyes.
“Dont make me feel like a stranger now. Josh is a younger brother.” She looked down at the suitcases. “Seeing how you have all this, your mafia boss turned lover must have taken you out shopping. As expected of a freaky billionaire.”
I shook my head. “I should settle myself in,” I said, passing her with my luggage to head inside my room.
“Yes, do that. I’ll prepare dinner, then we’ll talk.”
With that, she ran to the kitchen, and I smiled.
It feels good to be home.
••
“Thanks for the dinner, Halley, I didn't know I missed your cooking.” I joked and she rolled her eyes.
“You don't have to say anything, I know you do. No chef can beat my cooking.” She raised her shoulders and I couldn't help but burst out in laughter.
“Stop flattering yourself,” Josh said beside me, and Halley gave him the middle finger. He smiled at it.
“How have you been? I’m sorry I wasn't around to see you after you left the station.” I reached for Josh’s hand.
“I’m not annoyed, and besides, I felt like you were there.”
My heart stilled at that, or maybe it was the way Josh was looking at me. His eyes were searching.
“How could she be there when she was with her mafia boss? She can't let the hot cake go now.” Halley winked and I gave her an eye to be quiet. The dining table turned silent.
“Ohh…hmm.” She opened her mouth again. “You know, Josh has this cute girl after him.”
Bless my day, I never thought I would hear of this.
“Come on now, are you seeing someone?” I asked to
Josh. He removed his hand from mine and placed it on the table.
“No. Adalia is just a nuisance.”
Adalia.
A familiar feeling swept through me. I don't know why that name sounded so familiar. I didn't know any of the name.
Maybe it was someone I had come across.
I brushed it out of my mind.
“If she is a nuisance, then she’s something. Tell me, who’s this girl— turned—nuisance to my dear little brother?” I drew closer to him, and he moved his chair backward.
“I already said she is a nobody.” He raised his voice.
“Why are you getting defensive if she’s nobody to you?” I raised my voice also.
“Now now, you both shouldn't fight.”
I turned to Halley.
“Let’s do it this way. We should all rest tonight, and speak about everything tomorrow. I’ve work tomorrow, Josh has school, and…..”
She pointed at me.
“I’m to resume new week,” I answered.
“Of course, you are the boss’s wife.”
“Halley!” I scolded.
“What! That’s the truth though.”
I sighed, there was no getting to her.
