Chapter 151
Cedrick watched until they cleared the courtyard. Only then did he lead Grandma and Lucille out, locking the door behind them.
His driver waited outside. “Guard the gate,” Cedrick ordered. “Call me and the police if they try breaking in.”
He helped Grandma and Lucille into the car, driving toward the community clinic.
“Grandma.”
Guilt tightened his voice–Jaxon was still her son. “I went too far today. But seeing Lucille’s hand… I couldn’t hold back. Blame me if you must.”
Grandma cradled Lucille’s injured hand, eyes welling. “My fault. I failed to control my son… failed to raise him right
“No.” Cedrick’s voice softened. “Character’s in one’s blood. I tolerated your son for Lucille’s sake. Today crossed the line. His cruelty? Not your failing. Same upbringing–why are Lucille and her aunt so different?”
“So, Grandma, don’t blame yourself. It’s the bad genes from father–in–law, it’s deep–rooted.”
Cedrick said.
Grandma heard it but wasn’t comforted.
After all, she married the wrong man in this life…
“Grandma, don’t be sad.”
Lucille leaned on her, “My hand is fine, it’s a minor issue.”
“This is minor?
Ten fingers connected to the heart!”
Grandmother held Lucille’s hands, heartbroken.
“Really, it’s minor.”
Lucille smiled. Ten fingers connected to the heart? Compared to the pain from that car accident years ago, this was nothing.
Cedrick’s expression darkened.
Lucille guessed he must be remembering that accident too. It was his dark history, his hidden pain. That crash forced him into a marriage bargain, the root of all his marital suffering.

Cedrick silently took Lucille to the nearby hospital for treatment. Afterward, he suggested, “Grandmother, why not wait at the house? Lucille and I have some business first. I’ll bring her back to you later.”
“No need.”
Grandmother hurriedly replied, “Seeing Lucille bandaged is enough. I’ll head back first. You handle your business. I know how to deal with that ungrateful son.”
Cedrick nodded. “Alright. I’ll find the village chief.
By the way, Grandmother, do you know why your son suddenly wants this house?”
Grandmother shook her head.
“He heard from somewhere. Our village area is being redeveloped into a tourist project. Our houses are getting de- molished.”
Cedrick explained.
“No wonder… ” Grandmother understood.
“Grandmother, who actually owns this house now?”
Cedrick asked.
Grandmother sighed. “That ungrateful son truly thought the country house was worthless back then. He took all the savings your grandfather left, didn’t leave a penny for us. It was agreed then the country house goes to Lucille’s aunt.”
“Was there a will?”
Cedrick inquired.
–
Grandmother sighed again, shaking her head. “What will? We knew nothing about such things back then.”
“I understand. Don’t worry, Grandmother. Leave it to me.”
Cedrick assured her.
He took Grandmother home first. The driver was still guarding the yard, sitting on a shaded rocking chair behind the locked gate, sipping a cup of hypocrisy.
Jaxon lingered outside too, crouching near the driver, pleading humbly.
Cedrick approached and couldn’t help but chuckle. “Quite comfortable, aren’t you?”
The driver looked embarrassed. “Mr. Cedrick…”
“Relax. Enjoy it. My treat. Order anything else you want.”

Cedrick helped Grandmother inside.
Jaxon tried to follow. Cedrick glanced back.
Jaxon forced a smile. “Son–in–law…”
Cedrick slammed the door shut with a loud “bang!“, locking Jaxon out.
Jaxon’s smile shattered. He spat at the door. “Pah!
Think money makes you special?
Since when does a son strike his own father?”
Tristen snorted nearby. “He is special because he has money! Got guts? Stop taking his cash then! Show some back- bone!”
“You brat!
Didn’t all my money go to you?”
“When did I ever see a cent?
