Chapter 232: Lost In My Thoughts
Chapter 232: Lost In My Thoughts
Alasia's POV:
"I don't exactly understand how any of that is going to work," I told both Beta Galien and Rameric as he remained standing there in his bathing chambers. I even reached up with one hand and began rubbing the side of my head, using the arm that was not pressed up against Rameric. "How is it that we can use the fact that he thinks you are dead to our advantage?"
"It's a rather simple reality, really," Beta Galien spoke up at that moment.
I still didn't quite understand this, as I turned my gaze to look up at my mate, Rameric, when he spoke, saying, "I will help ensure that you understand this in time. However, for now, I need to get you into the warm water, as soaking will definitely do you some good."
I looked down, still frustrated, as this was all still new to me, and I was having a hard time getting used to how everything was supposed to work and all. I ran back over several things in my mind, recalling exactly how I came to be here in Rameric's company. I cannot believe that my stepfather did to me what he did. The way he treated me was more like a slave than an actual daughter. Even the way he treated my brother, Brazen.
However, if it wasn't for everything that led me here, I never would have found the person who was truly meant for me. Then, even after meeting my mate, Rameric, my life was put in complete peril, as that one young woman, the one who was in Rameric's chambers,... I can't believe what she did. I was having a hard time getting past everything.
'I think it's best if we move past that thought for this particular moment, and focus more on you right now and your needs,' Rameric said, cutting into my thoughts.
I couldn't help it as I turned to look up at him. Suddenly, I could feel a new sense of warmth from him, but this time it was deeper, coming from deep inside his chest. What could have caused that? Was it what I previously thought whenever I said that he was the one who was truly meant for me? Wait, should I even consider him that? He was the Alpha of his pack after all, and I should show him more respect than just considering him to that title.
I couldn't help it as I looked away briefly down in my lap, which was barely covered by the thin cloth at this point. From what I could tell, in the past ever since I met Rameric, my mate... I was still having a hard time getting past that particular thought alone.
I just know that in the past, I have always thought of myself as a weak human, but never before in my life have I considered that I could be more than that, the mate of an Alpha to a werewolf pack. And not just any werewolf pack either. Rameric was the leader, no Alpha, of The Crimson Caine, the most fierce and powerful werewolf pack around here. Knowing that, my stepfather ensured I never thought highly of myself, and, given my current position as his newly founded mate, I can understand why.
Wait, I thought to myself for a brief moment. As I suddenly looked up at Rameric, he looked down at me, allowing me to finish my particular thought as I looked deep into his eyes. Somehow, in the back of my mind, the way my stepfather treated me... It almost made me feel as if he knew exactly who I was, the descendant of... Could it be? Could he have known who my mother was the entire time they were together? Something about this didn't sit right with me.
Right then, as Rameric looked down at me and I stared deep into his glowing, yellowish-burning eyes, I let this thought run through my mind a bit longer. What could it mean if this were actually the truth? Another question that ran through my mind right then, was how I would be able to find out whether this was the actual truth or not. Even then, how could I determine the fact that my stepfather knew exactly who I was?
I gasped in that particular moment, as the weight of this particular question didn't sit well with me. Is this why he ensured to treat me in such a manner, so that I would never find out the way I did? Even if that was the case, how was my stepfather to know that Rameric, the Alpha of the Crimson Caine, was indeed my one true mate?
Even if my stepfather knew who my mother was, if that was a factor in this, there is no way that he would've been able to tell who my mate was. Only my mate or I could have determined that. All my stepfather was thinking about was where his next beverage would be coming from and who would be providing the funds.
Rameric finally spoke up, saying, "That is a very intriguing thought. I can tell you that I will check on that as well, and we will most certainly get to the bottom of it."
Just then, Beta Galien spoke up, his words cutting into my thoughts as we both turned to look at him. "My Alpha Caine, I know you have a lot to tend to. So, for now, I shall leave you."
Rameric nodded at him when Beta Galien added, "If you wish, I can assist you as you step into the bathing basin. You have both been through a tremendous amount over this past week. I know this will do you both some good, now that she isn't in the need of being cleaned, but only needs to soak this time."
I immediately turned my gaze from Beta Galien back to Rameric when I looked up at him with a shocking expression, asking, "What does he mean by that?"
I noticed when Rameric swallowed, before he looked up at Beta Galien and responded, overlooking the fact that I had just asked him a question, when he said, "Very well."
Then, Rameric looked down at me when I heard, 'I will tell you once he is no longer here with us.'
I furrowed my eyebrows at his comment, but knew that there was no point in trying to ask again. Rameric would indeed answer my question. However, I would simply have to wait until his Beta had left first.
