Chapter 280 Continue the Counterattack
Chapter 280 Continue the Counterattack
Since this whole thing started, Augustus had been worried that Cynthia would get angry and give him the cold shoulder.
But from beginning to end, Cynthia's attitude was to trust him unconditionally.
She gave Augustus all the security he needed, letting him focus on solving the problem without worry.
"Thank you for believing in me."
Augustus whispered in Cynthia's ear, "For believing in me unconditionally."
Cynthia patted Augustus on the back, "You didn't let me down either. These things go both ways."
Beatrice watched from the side, feeling incredibly relieved.
After they finished hugging, she spoke up, "Alright, come eat now."
The family sat around the table together.
"Oh, right." Cynthia glanced at the time, "Peter, go turn on the TV."
Peter turned on the television and brought the remote over.
"Why do you suddenly want to watch TV during dinner today?"
Beatrice was a bit curious, since Cynthia didn't usually have this habit.
"Because there's a good show happening."
Cynthia switched the channel to Global News, and the program was just starting.
After the host greeted everyone, they introduced today's content.
"Recently, everyone's been paying attention to issues in the Thalassia region. Our program is lucky enough to have the Prime Minister of Thalassia joining us. Today he'll connect with us via video to discuss the hot topics everyone's been talking about."
The camera slowly moved to another man with graying hair.
"I'm Landon Wells, Prime Minister of Thalassia. Hello to all the viewers of Global News."
Scattered applause came from the audience.
Landon wasn't surprised by this. "I know that over the years, everyone's impression of Thalassia has been very bad. Human trafficking, smuggling, drug dealing, murder... these things happen every day in the Thalassia region. It seems when people think of us, they picture explosions and bloody crimes."
Landon smiled helplessly, "But that's the old Thalassia. While I can't promise that Thalassia is completely safe now, compared to before, we've made a lot of progress."
As he spoke, the TV showed current street footage from Thalassia.
The city's buildings were no longer destroyed and ruined by bombs like before; there were no constant gunshots, and children were even playing on the streets.
It looked just like any normal city.
The camera switched back to Landon's face.
"Thalassia used to be controlled by many different forces. Various gangs fought over territory, leaving people living in fear and poverty. Life was very hard. But all of this completely changed because of one woman!"
As Landon said this, his emotions became noticeably excited.
"That person is Cynthia! The Thunder Club she leads wiped out most of Thalassia's gangs, established new rules, and step by step turned Thalassia into an orderly city! She even paid out of her own pocket to help us build schools, hospitals, and improve basic infrastructure."
In front of the TV, Beatrice's hands shook so much she dropped her knife and fork onto her plate.
"Cynthia?"
Was Cynthia the leader of Thunder Club?
And she took down the gang groups in Thalassia?
Beatrice couldn't believe her ears.
"This Cynthia they're talking about, is that you..."
Before Beatrice could finish asking, Cynthia's face appeared on the TV screen.
It was secretly filmed footage showing Cynthia walking through the streets of Thalassia, personally rescuing a young girl from gang members who were assaulting her.
With quick and efficient moves, she had several large, muscular men running away in terror.
Beatrice and Randolph looked at each other, their eyes full of excitement they couldn't contain.
Cynthia was so amazing! And so full of justice!
Landon's voice came through the TV again, "Without Thunder Club, there would be no peaceful and developing Thalassia today. I want to represent our country and our people in thanking Ms. Lockhart for her help."
After Landon finished speaking, loud applause filled the room.
A stark contrast to the scattered sounds from earlier.
The host couldn't help but clap too. "Mr. Wells, since Thalassia has established a new order, why does something as inhumane as a fighting arena still exist?"
"That fighting arena was created by a former local gang called Black Wolf Crew. But that arena and Black Wolf Crew have now been destroyed by Ms. Lockhart. They no longer exist."
The host nodded, "So you're saying Ms. Lockhart appeared at the fighting arena to destroy it?"
"Yes, now that Black Wolf Crew is gone, naturally, no one is running the arena anymore."
The host and Landon talked about some other things, but Beatrice was too excited to keep listening.
She looked at Cynthia, "No wonder you didn't care about all those comments online. You had already prepared how to handle it."
Randolph couldn't help but speak up too, "Cynthia is just too amazing. Even a country's prime minister personally stood up to speak for you! Let's see who dares to wrongly accuse my daughter now!"
"It wasn't just my doing."
Cynthia glanced at Augustus, "Augustus helped me a lot."
It was because Thunder Club and Augustus's Hawk Gang joined forces that Thalassia was able to return to peace.
Beatrice couldn't help asking, "Cynthia, who taught you to fight like that? You're so good!"
Cynthia's expression was calm, "When I was little, classmates would always bully me, saying my parents didn't care about me, that I was a child nobody loved... Wyatt was the one who sent me to learn kickboxing."
Hearing this, Beatrice's heart ached.
She got up and pulled Cynthia into her arms.
"My Cynthia suffered so much."
Cynthia reached out and hugged Beatrice back, "It wasn't suffering. Everything I went through in the past made me who I am today."
She had helped the people of an entire country. She was very proud of that.
The truth was completely revealed. Emily watched the live TV broadcast and looked at the comments from internet users on her phone, nearly going crazy with anger.
She saw the real-time trending topics, with the top one being [Cynthia, a woman with power].
The reports wrote about Cynthia like she was a superhero.
Saving innocent people, building a new order from ruins.
Online, many videos appeared defending Cynthia.
Mine workers came forward saying Cynthia had helped them and given them the courage to keep living.
Company employees came forward saying Cynthia had helped them solve workplace bullying.
Cancer survivors came forward saying Cynthia had provided medical help that saved their lives.
Public opinion turned too quickly. Cynthia went from being hated by everyone online to becoming a superhero in everyone's hearts.
Emily's lungs were about to explode with anger!
Those internet users who had cursed Cynthia before were now apologizing one after another.
"It's my fault for being so narrow-minded before, attacking such a kind and great woman based on a few photos! I deserve to die."
"I really regret the things I said, attacking Ms. Lockhart. I'm going to confess at church!"
"Internet bullying is so scary. We almost destroyed a hero!"
Emily couldn't watch anymore. She threw her phone hard at the TV in front of her.
The TV screen cracked, the phone shattered, but she still didn't feel any better.
Cynthia! Why are you always so lucky?
Thinking this, Emily pressed the call button without hesitation.
"Nurse! I want to be discharged!"
