167. Dinner Guests
Jax
Food started flying around the table. I thought it was kind of strange, Cora didn’t normally do stuff like this, she served herself like I did. Max had a tendency to do this, but I figured it was because it was because he was a child. It then occurred to me that he hadn’t been floating things as much. I would have to ask Cora about it. Probably a coincidence seeing as he was training with so much. “You have a lovely home.” Jeanie said. She was sitting next to me.
“Thanks Jeanie.” I smiled at the lady. Anne was just starting. I mind linked her. “Stop staring and eat.” She responded. “Yes alpha.” And she did. The twins both looked at me. She had said it out loud. Lia leaned forward. “How does that work Jax?” I looked at her she looked curious. “How does what work?” I asked, not understanding what she wanted to know. “You know the whole mind reading thing. I know you wolves do that, also what is it about an alpha that makes him boss others around.” Cora’s face twisted. She didn’t want me to be insulted.
Jeanie spoke up. “Lia you are very young, so I am going to tell you something, so you know it in the future. Cora is bonded to Jax, more so she is his mate. I hope we get to understand that soon, but I do know about bonded pairs. They do not like when others disrespect their pair. So just be cautious, because honestly Cora is as deadly as they come.” Lia sat back and told Cora and me she was sorry. I wondered if that is why the twins didn’t shake her hands, because we were bonded? I felt like Lia still deserved an answer. “Lia, Alphas do not boss others around. We guide, well we are supposed to anyways. As for the mind reading think we call it mind link and it is pack mentality, so when we are shifted into wolves we can communicate since we can’t actually speak. But we can do it when in human form too.” Lia nodded.
Jeanie said to me. “You know I have never talked to anyone who ever really explained it. It is kind of nice to see a little glimpse of your world.” “Yeah, well free to ask any questions, all of you are free to ask anything.” One of the twins asked. “Okay I got to know? Cora, you channel right?” She nodded. “Okay so how did you manage, Grant and must have tried a million times as kids and we never could we even tried after we talked to you. Neither of us could do it.” All four of the witches turned to her. She looked at me and I shrugged. I didn’t know what she wanted to tell them. I knew what Hecate told her about why she was able to channel but I didn’t think she would want to share it.
“Um, well, I just.” John spoke up “Do you guys want to be spanked and flogged until you are crying?” He asked and they all looked horrified and didn’t answer. “None of you would like to be bitten and bruised?” All of them shook their heads no. “You don’t find bliss in being roughed up?” One of the twins said. “No dude.” John looked at all of them. “Yeah, then you will never channel.” They all looked at Cora who was red as a tomato and she put some food in her mouth. John started laughing.
Anne jumped in to change the subject. “So, you guys are good witches Cora said.” One of the twins answered. “Yeah, I guess, I don’t know if we are good perse, but we don’t do blood magic.” Anne asked. “I am so sorry, but I can’t tell the two of you apart.” Cora face turned toward her. John also admitted he couldn’t, and I fell in line with them admitting I had no clue who was who. Cora said, “Grant is the one next to me Garrett is the other.” Anne asked. “But how do you know?” Cora shrugged. Everyone got silent again. “Okay so is it weird being in a pack and being a witch, Cora?” Lia asked my mate.
“No, not now anyways. Granted as of right now there is only five of us.” Lia scrunched up her face. “How could you be in a pack and a witch; you can’t mind link can you?” She shook her head. “Nope I can’t but I am mated to Jax, and he is an alpha therefore I am automatically his pack’s Luna.” Cora looked at the girl. “Go on ask?” She said and Lia did. “Okay so I don’t get the whole difference with a bonded and a mate, can you please explain?” Cora kept chewing washing it down with her cocktail.
“So, mates are fated, everyone has one. I mean everyone humans, witches, werewolves, vampires, all of us. Fate decides who you are perfect for. However, werewolves are the only one who can recognize the mate bond for what it is. That is thanks to their god who gave them this as a gift. Now not everyone finds their mate who is a werewolf. The earth has a ton of living beings on it, making it hard. So not everyone waits or even chooses who fate picked. Then we have bonding, this is something only we can do. Witches choose who they bond to. It is magic that binds both Jax and I, I placed it there. If I die Jax would too and vice versa. Neither of us can live without the other. Also, he feels my emotions and I him.”
Lia looked between us and then asked. “Okay well if no one else besides wolves can recognizes they are mates to someone how does that work?” I decided to answer this. “People do recognize it, they feel it, they just don’t know why they feel it. Humans will run from it sometimes or even embrace it. They feel the bond if they come across it, they just don’t know it is fate.” She nodded. Jeanie said. “Bonding though I know is serious, I wouldn’t be surprised if the few witches I have known who have done it, are also mates and just didn’t know it. Lots of witches get married have families and so forth but it is extremely rare to see a witch who is bonded.”
Lia nodded and the twins kept eating both getting seconds. John spoke. “Jeanie, it seems like you know a lot I would love to pick your brain. Cora and Jax can tell you I am somewhat of a historian.” I snorted and said, “He is not somewhat he is a historian; he has the best knowledge on our species around, he is too modest.” Jeanie smiled at him and said “Well we can exchange information on both species, though Cora I think actually may know more, she told me about her archives.”
“Jeanie I may know a lot, but you have lived a lot.” She smiled and I could see her cheeks reddening. “Okay you want to start something new, right?” Grant spoke, I only knew it was him because Cora said he was the twin sitting next to her. “Well, what would that look like, because Garrett and I don’t really have a home, and we would like one. We work from our laptops you know so we do have jobs, but it is hard to actually have a home when werewolf's find us and chase us all over the country. We thought you may be lying about your son, but you guys clearly aren’t considering Cora is clearly a witch and you are clearly a wolf. None of you have done a dam thing that is overly concerning, and a ruse would never hold up this well. We both knew you two were bonded like Cora said you were the second we saw the two of you. So can you just tell us how life would look if we came and lived here and made this new thing with you.”
Cora was biting her lip trying not to laugh but Lia couldn’t hold it in and busted out laughing followed by Cora and the rest of us. The laughter died down and Lia said “I want to know to. Like Garrett and Grant, I don’t have a home. It would be nice to have one.” Jeanie then spoke. “I have a home, but it is lonely, I used to have a coven when I was little, but werewolves killed them. Hunted most of them down and slaughtered us. I am the last one from that coven to still be alive. So yes, I too want to know how it will be here.” The room turned very somber.
