Allie adapted quickly to her new life in Italy. She loved working in the bookstore. Life in Italy is so peaceful, but she is starting to miss her family. She knew that she had to tell them the news about her and Jack, but whenever she picked up the phone, she chickened out. She can't bear the thought of finally telling them, even though she knows it can't go on like this forever. She decided that today would be the day that she would call her parents and tell them what happened after she came back from work.

It's been more than a week since she started working for the old lady in the bookstore and It started to look somewhat more like a bookstore with each passing day. everyday Allie dusts off and puts books away. She climbs up the ladder what feels like a hundred times a day, which is not unlikely, seeing that all the books are scattered across the floor because the old lady can't get up the ladder herself anymore. It was nearly lunchtime when Allie climbed down the ladder a bit too fast and missed one of the steps and fell to the ground hard. She felt an excruciating pain in her abdomen as she hit the ground. She screams from the pain. She never felt pain like this before. Martha rushed to Allie's side where she was curled up in a ball, screaming from the pain. She tried to pick Allie up, but she was too weak. She rushed to the phone and called for an ambulance. It was not long before the ambulance arrived and took Allie to the hospital. The old Lady felt sorry for Allie. She was here all alone without any family. She took Allie's phone from behind the counter to look for a family member she could contact. She barely understands English, but she noticed the name ( Jack ) on her phone with a little heart Emoji behind his name. The old Lady, Martha knew that the person must be important for her to put a heart by his name. She wrote his number down in her phonebook and tried to call him, but he didn't answer. She realized that the time must be different from where Allie is from and that this Jack guy must be sleeping. She decides to call him later tonight. It might be morning by then and Jack might answer his phone then.

( Allie's POV )

The pain is so unbearable that I can barely hear what is going on around me. I can feel that everything is moving, but it is too painful to open my eyes. I could faintly hear a siren that sounded like an ambulance, and the next moment it was all dark. I must have passed out from the pain because when I opened my eyes again, I was lying on a hospital bed in a hospital gown. I don't remember getting here when suddenly, I get flashbacks from the siren I heard. The ambulance must have brought me here. I try to move when sudden pain shoots through my stomach. A nurse came rushing in and started speaking in Italian. I did not understand what she was saying, but I could make out that she wanted me to lay still in the bed. "Excuse me. Could you maybe tell me when I can go home please? " She looked at me shocked. " Your English? " I nod.
" We have to wait for the doctor to find out if you are well enough to go home. " I look at her hopelessly. " When will the doctor be here? " She sighs.
" He won't be here for another hour. Can I bring you some tea while you wait " She gives me a friendly smile. " Yes, please. " I could feel how dry my lips are and something wet will help a lot now.

Waiting for the doctor felt like hours. When I looked up at the clock on the wall, I noticed that it had already been two hours. I was just about to call the nurse when a doctor came into my room with a clipboard in his hand. " Good Morning Miss? " He smiles friendly and looks down at the clipboard again.
" Morning Doctor. " He studies the paper for a while and the suspense is killing me. " Would I be able to go home today Doctor? " He looked up at me and I could see that his entire expression dropped. " I am sorry miss. I'm going to keep you in here just to make sure that we are in the clear. You almost had a miscarriage and it is too dangerous for you to be walking around now. I want to keep you in here for at least two more days, then you have to be on bed rest at home." I look at the doctor with shock. Did I just hear him right. " m.m.misscariege? " I try to repeat, but I stutter. It feels like the wind was knocked right out of me. " Did you not know? " The doctor asks and I just stare straight ahead of me with glassy eyes and shake my head. "Congratulations Miss. You are going to be a mother. We just have to get you better and back on your feet again. " I tries to smile but it felt like the life was sucked right out of me. " should we call the father and tell him that you are okay. I shake my head. " No. The father isn't in the picture " He looks at me with sadness in his eyes " Vary well miss. You rest up now and I will come and check on you tomorrow " I nod and the doctor disappears out the door. I feel how all the emotions build up in me again. The heartache from Jack cheating on me. From leaving my home. from lying to my family, and now finding out that I am pregnant.

After the doctor left the room, Allie burst into tears. She couldn't hold it back anymore. She wants to be happy about the news, but all she can think about is that Jack cheated on her. They could have had such a wonderful life together. what will happen if he finds out about the baby. Will he take it away from her? Will he take her baby from her and move to the wolf city where no humans are allowed and let Nickie raise it as her own? The thought made Allie feel bitter. She has to think of a way to keep her pregnancy a secret, even from her family. She would have to tell them that she and Jack aren't together anymore and that things are over between them. She has so many things to arrange for her and her unborn baby. She would have to tell her parents and Uncle Buck that she has found a wonderful job and that she has to immigrate. Allie barely found out that she is pregnant and she is already trying to find ways to protect her baby. She would have to change her name and start a howel new life. Just thinking of leaving everyone behind, breaks her heart. How would she ever hide her baby from her parents? They would want to come and visit or want her to go and visit. It all is such a mess. How did her life turn upside down so fast?

After four days in the hospital, the doctor discharged Allie from the hospital, but she had to be on bed rest for a few weeks. Allie was worried because she couldn't stay in bed for weeks. She just started a new job and she has to work to provide for herself and now her unborn baby as well. The old lady, Martha was kind enough to bring her clothes and books to read while she was in the hospital. Now Allie is stuck on bed rest in her small tiny apartment. If you can even call it that. It is like a big bedroom with a small kitchen in the corner and a decent bathroom behind a wooden door. even though the bedroom is small, it is very cute and homey. She is thankful for Martha because she brings her books to read and home-cooked meals. She doesn't know what she would have done without the old lady's help. She is the kindest person she has ever met. Martha even told Allie that her job would be waiting for her after she was back on her feet. A week went by and Allie couldn't take it anymore. She decided to get out of bed and stretch her legs a bit. She would die of boredom if she stayed cooped up in that tiny apartment any longer. She went over to her tiny wardrobe and pulled out a loose long turquoise dress that she bought here in Italy and put it on with a pair of sandals. And she is out the door and carefully down the steps of the building into the bright fresh air. Oh, how she missed the fresh air. Allie stands in front of the building, contemplating which way to go that doesn't have a steep path to walk on. She doesn't want to cause too much strain on her body because she isn't even allowed out of bed yet.
