Chapter 43 - Demons and a Vampire

**Hailey's P.O.V.**

I feel numb. I still can't believe Leela and Carlos are gone. They were the sweetest people and treated all of us like family. I'm thankful, at least, that this demon didn't hurt Camilla. Just as we're leaving the room, I hear a painful cry. We all run downstairs and see Jock on his knees at the bottom of the steps.

"What's wrong?" Jessi asks as she races to him with Camilla in her arms. He looks up with tears running down his face.

"Someone has Davina. She mindlinked me that someone had her, and then she was gone. I can't mindlink her anymore." He begins sobbing again as we all stare at him in shock. How did someone get Davina? If she was tiny, how did they even see her?

"It was probably Malphas. He thinks supernaturals are toys and wants to use them as playthings. If he has her, then she's alive for now. However, he probably took her to another realm, so I don't know how we can get to her." Kaida says, coming up to us.

"Is that why I can't mindlink her? If she's in another realm, what will he do to her? She's been through enough; we have to get her back." Jock stands up, but I can see he's broken without his little fairy.

"If she's in another realm, mindlink won't work. We need help from someone who can go between the realms, and none of us can do that." Kaida answers. We're all lost on what to do.

"What's going on? Why does everyone look so serious?" Everyone spins around, and Davina is standing in the doorway watching us.

"What the hell, Davina? What happened to you? We were just about ready to make a deal with a demon to go into another realm to get you back." Jessi runs over and hugs her as the tears stream down her face. Jock quickly shoves her off so he can get to his mate.

"Why couldn't I mindlink you?" He asks as he kisses her.

"I shut you out so I could concentrate. I was flying around looking for the killer when I saw something strange. It was gone before I could get to it, and that's when something suddenly grabbed me. You know I don't like it when people do that, so I used my dust and made them sick. It was a weird-looking thing that was all black with red eyes. He disappeared before I could do more. I'm sorry I let you down because I couldn't kill him." Jessi shakes her head at Davina.

"Are you kidding? Don't apologize; you just fought off one of those idiots from the triad." Jessi hugs her again, and Davina takes Camilla from her, snuggling the little pup, who giggles at her.

"I can't believe anyone from the triad got that close. They usually stay hidden. They must be getting impatient." Kerri says. I haven't said anything because I'm still numb. Leela and Carlos were killed. Camilla was in danger, and then Davina was almost taken because of these legends. Would it be better if I just disappear so no one else gets hurt? Dante looks at me, concerned.

"Don't even think about it. You're not going anywhere." He whispers. How does he always know what I'm thinking?

"What are you talking about?" I ask, turning away from him.

"I can feel you pulling away, and I know you're thinking if you leave, all of this will stop. What did I tell you last time? They aren't going to stop coming just because you leave. They will still come and try to get you. How many people will get hurt or killed if you're not here? You and your sisters need to stay together to be strong enough to fight. Now, do I need to lock you up to make sure you don't leave?" Dante asks, pulling me closer to him. Just that contact makes me feel better.

"You're right. I wouldn't know where I would go anyway. I feel so bad for Natalie and Ellis. I don't like that demon being able to get into the packhouse that easily. He could kill any of us with ease if he's able to come and go as he pleases. In fact, why hasn't he? If he can get in without us seeing him, why hasn't he killed me or taken me and be done with it?" I ask quietly while the others are still talking to Davina.

"I don't know, but now that we know he can change from a raven to a human, we're going to increase security. I'm going to have cameras installed everywhere in the packhouse. We have a bunch of new people in the pack, so we should have plenty to help keep us safe. There must be something preventing him from going after you directly. We also have the triad getting closer. They sound even worse than Malphas." I nod at him as I lean my head on his shoulder. I can't wait until we get past all this. Will we get past it, or will people always be coming after us?

"We can't let anyone helping us get hurt," I tell him as I watch our guests. They're all so impressive on their own, but together, they're a true powerhouse. I just hope it's enough.

Why, why, why did I agree to help Selene? I should know better than to let her suck me into something, but here I am, running across the country to help her daughters. Apparently, there are some demons after them, and they may need someone like me to help. I should have told her to find someone else.

Selene did say they already have lycan warriors, a fairy, a witch, and a dragon in addition to all the wolves and three goddesses. Is this some sort of child's nightmare or something? We all sound like a bunch of monsters, and now they're getting ready to add me, a vampire, to the mix.

Most would never think I was a vampire if they looked at me. I'm petite with long pale blonde hair and green eyes. I'm a couple of centuries old, yet I have never found love. Traveling all over the world alone has proven to make me feel even lonelier. What good is it to be immortal if I'm alone?

I was in New York when Selene summoned me. That's a nice way of saying she forced me to go to her realm. She helped me a long time ago, and I owe her. I never actually thought she'd collect, but boy, was I wrong. I'm almost to Nevada now, and I'm not looking forward to this little trip. I like being able to come and go as I please, and until these demons are gone, it seems like I'll be slumming with the wolves.

I race through the packlands of Blue Moon and hear the howls of the wolves. At least they have some security. That's a good thing. I reach the packhouse and come to a stop on the porch. Should I knock? No, I guess not because the door suddenly swings open, and a man and woman look at me suspiciously.

"I can smell you're a vampire. What are you doing here?" The man asks. I lean against the railing of the deck and cross my arms.

"Well, hello to you too. I take it you're the alpha of this establishment. My name is Eldia, and I was sent here by Selene. She said you're having a little trouble with some demons and could possibly use my help. You know misery loves company, and it sounds like you have a lot of it." I say, looking at the woman. I can tell she's the keeper.

"It's nice to meet you, and we'll take all the help we can get. I'm Hailey, and this is my mate Dante. Please come inside." She opens the door for me, and I follow them into the packhouse. I already feel claustrophobic. Before I can ask them if I can stay on the roof, I see someone running down the steps. He stops and stares at me before sniffing the air. Oh shit, I know that look. He then runs over to me and sniffs my neck. I'm not feeling any sparks; I swear I'm not, that's just static electricity.

"Mate." He whispers against my neck. Fuck. I'm the mate of a damn werewolf. Selene is going to pay for this.
