Chapter 44 - The Demon Deacons

**Hailey's P.O.V.**

I watch in awe as Craig says Eldia is his mate. He looks excited, while she looks irritated. Is she not happy to be mated to Craig?

"Why would you block me out?" I turn and see Jock talking to Davina. We have too many things going on at once. I don't know who to watch.

"I didn't want any distractions. He was a demon, and if I was focusing on you, I might not have been able to get away. Don't be sad, Jock. I will only do that when I absolutely have to." Davina kisses her mate, and I return my attention to the new mates.

"I can tell you're a wolf, so what's your name?" Eldia asks Craig. At least she hasn't rejected him.

"I'm Craig. As you said, I'm a werewolf. I was mated once before, but my former alpha killed my mate and my daughter. I left that pack and came here to join Dante and Hailey." Craig says nervously. I hope Eldia gives him a chance. He needs it.

"So I'm your second chance mate. I've never had a mate, but I've been around for centuries. Do you have a problem being mated to a vampire?" I finally understand why she's acting the way she is. Eldia is lonely and is scared of being hurt. Craig smiles at her, and my heart melts. That's the most I've seen him smile since he's been here.

"I'm thrilled to be mated to a vampire. What about you? How do you feel about a werewolf?" He asks her. Eldia bites her lip and then smiles at him.

"I always did have a soft spot for wolves." She replies, throwing her arms around his neck, and Craig closes his eyes as a tear slips out. They sure are cute together. Eldia pulls away from him and turns to me but continues holding Craig's hand.

"Are you good with me staying to help?" She asks. It's funny how her entire disposition has changed now that she's found her mate.

"Of course, we're okay with it; we need all the help we can get. Congratulations to both of you on finding your mate." I reply. Eldia and Craig look at each other and smile.

"Thank you. I was cursing Selene for sending me here, but now I think I owe her an apology. So what do we need to do?" Eldia asks.

"We were training when two members of our pack were murdered in the packhouse, and one of the triad took Davina. You showed up right after she did, so we're still trying to process everything." I answer her. She looks around at everyone and then back at me.

"Do you know who killed the people in the packhouse?" Eldia asks.

"It was a demon named Malphas," Dante says.

"Interesting. I've dealt with him and the triad before. If you're open to it, we may need to call in reinforcements to help with both. It may be risky, but he may be the only one who can help." Eldia says. Why do I already know I'm not going to like what she's about to say.

"Who?" I ask her.

"Satan."

**Ozzy's P.O.V.**

Sheldon was a fool. I know better than to go after the keeper with a hot head, thinking I'm better than the Blue Moon Pack. There's a reason Selene chose the keeper to mate into that pack. I didn't become the alpha of the Demon Deacons by acting stupid.

Instead of sending my men in to attack, we've just been watching from afar. I have one of the only portals to allow demons to move from their realm to ours. If the legends are released, I will no longer be able to keep track of the demons coming in and out of our realm. When there's a knock on my office door, I look up.

"Come in." One of the omega comes in and sets my lunch on my desk.

"Sir, there's a young woman downstairs who claims to be your mate." My wolf and I sniff the air and smell nothing that makes us believe her.

"Send her away. I'll know when I find my mate." I reply. He nods and leaves the office. I sigh in frustration as I begin eating. I'm forty years old and haven't met my mate. Women show up all the time, stating they're my mate, but I know it doesn't work like that. Having authority over a portal gives a wolfpack power. I could have had a chosen mate a long time ago, but I'm still holding out for my fated mate. I know she's out there somewhere, and I don't want to risk losing her by marking someone else.

Running my hand through my black hair, I push my lunch away. I don't want to kill the keeper; I just want to keep the legends from others finding them and letting hell rain down on earth. I have thought about talking with the alpha of The Blue Moon and the keeper, but I'm not sure they would want to hear from me. There's another knock on my door, and I see my beta Troy.

"I just heard from the man watching Blue Moon. He said they now have a dragon and a vampire who just came to help. They are bursting at the seams with help now. Several lycan warriors, a fairy, a witch, now a dragon and vampire. Not to mention all the wolves from their pack and Sheldon's pack who have joined them. He said he also saw the demon from the triad try to take the fairy, but she did something that made him drop her, and he left quickly. This is just a suggestion, but I think you need to talk to them." Troy says as he sits across from me.

"I was thinking the same thing. How do you think they'll take me showing up out of nowhere? I don't want anyone else to go because I don't want them to think I'm attacking." I ask as I lean back in my chair.

"I think they'll hear you out. It doesn't seem like they're in any hurry to get the legends out of her." He replies with a smile.

"Daddy, Daddy." We both look toward the door and see Troy's four-year-old daughter, Jenny, running into the office. I smile as I watch her crawl into her dad's lap. I want that. I want a mate and pups. I want a family.

"What's wrong?" Troy asks her. Jenny smiles shyly at me.

"If alpha doesn't have a mate, I can be his mate. I'm a big girl, and I can tell people what to do." I smile at her, and she starts giggling.

"Why do you want to be the luna?" I ask her as though I'm considering it.

"I saw that nasty woman come to the pack and say she was your mate. She didn't even want to get out of the car because she said we were all dirty. She can't be a luna." Jenny explained with a straight face. Troy is trying to hide his chuckle, but his daughter turns to glare at him.

"I'll tell you what. Until I find my fated mate, you're the honorary luna. Okay?" I hold my hand out to her, and she giggles as she shakes it.

"Does this mean I can tell people what to do, and they have to listen to me?" She asks.

"Why?" I ask cautiously.

"Well, Dana said I'm too little to do anything, but if I'm luna, she can't say that, and I can do what I want," Jenny explains. Dana is her older sister.

"I'm getting ready to leave for a while, so I'll make an announcement that you're the honorary luna," I tell Jenny. She jumps off her dad's lap and runs out of the office.

"You're lucky you're leaving because she's going to be a nightmare now." I laugh as I stand up and pat him on the back.

""I know. That's why I'm doing it right before I leave." I laugh as we walk out of the office. I go to my bedroom and pack a bag. I don't know if I'll be staying at Blue Moon for any amount of time, but just in case, I want to be prepared. When I walk outside, Jenny is waiting with her little arms crossed. I know her mom and dad are going to get me back for this later, but I'll do anything to make the little pup smile. I lift her up and put her on my hip.

"Everyone, I have an announcement to make." When people stop what they're doing to listen, I begin. "I'm going to go to the Blue Moon Pack and explain our dilemma. In my absence, please listen to Troy. Also, due to me not finding my mate, I have decided to make Jenny my honorary luna. So please listen to her." Jenny nods proudly even as the pack laughs. When I put her down, she runs to her sister.

"See Dana I'm the luna. Now you have to do what I say." She yells.

I talk to Troy for a few minutes, then jump into my truck and take off. Hopefully, this isn't a mistake. I just need them to listen. We don't want demons taking over.
