28. The Royals

28. The Royals
The whole room is silent. I am not sure if they are waiting for me to say something, but I don’t. Is there really anything I could say?

I was the one they abandoned, even if they are royals, I feel like I deserve an explanation. Were they expecting me to receive them with open arms?

Why are they even here in the first place? I thought I was going to have more time before meeting them.

Feeling the tension building up in the room I hold my dad’s hand for comfort. My dad starts rubbing circles to ease my discomfort.

I noticed the King staring at our hands with a longing gaze. He catches me looking at him and looks away with a look of pain taking over his face.

He quickly recovers and clears his throat. “Jade, we heard that you were told the truth. To be honest we didn’t want you to find like that.” He is now glaring at my parents and the Alpha.

He sighs and focuses back on me. “We wanted to be present when you found out the truth, actually we wanted to be the ones that told you.”

The Queen cuts in and I swear she has the most soothing voice I have ever heard, “Love, what's done is done. We should explain to her our side of the story, I am sure Jade has questions.”

I let out a snort, “Maybe, start by telling me why I was sent off, when you clearly have been raising your son just fine. Kinda strange if you ask me."

I noticed how the harshness in my voice made them flinch. The prince is clearly not pleased by what I said, and he speaks up for the first time and I don’t like the tone he uses to speak to me.

“Jade you are being unfair. Please hear them out first, they have been suffering for the past 18 years. You just found out, but I know that prior to that you were living happily while they have been longing to have you with us.”

I glare at this guy, who the fuck does he think he is? I notice the queen immediately pull on his hand and shakes her head at him.

But it's too late, “Butt out you royal asshole. I don’t think anyone asked you for input. Actually, I think it would be great if you leave. There are enough strangers here as it is, and your input won't be needed. Let those who are actually involved do the talking"

Suddenly the door is pushed and in comes Liam with a concerned look on his face. His eyes soften as soon as he sees me and walks straight up to me and gives me the best bear hug only a big brother can give.

I feel calm as soon as I am wrapped up in my brother’s familiar scent. Turning to our parent’s he questions, “Don’t you guys think it is too soon for this? Has it not been enough to finding out the truth, and now she is getting ambushed like this without any sort of warning.”

Nicolas growls out, “And who do you think are? This is a family matter; I don’t know who you are but if you weren’t told to be here in the first place clearly indicates you have no say in this matter.”

Liam’s chest rumbles with a growl of displeasure and I turn to glare at the prince.

I can tell he is upset at the way Liam is holding me, but I honestly don’t care. I hear Liam say, “You bet I have a say in anything that involves my baby sister." He really makes sure to emphasize the word my.

Deciding to speak up, I say, “Liam can be present in anything that involves me, he is my big brother and one of the men actually involved in my life I trust the most.”

I see a flash of hurt go through his eyes at what I said and clenches his jaw so tight you could hear the clenching of his teeth.

The king suddenly interrupts, “I think we should all take a few minutes to all calm down, it is obvious we all are going through the motions of everything, and this is not leading anywhere.”

The king then gives the prince a firm glare, clearly not happy with how he has behaved.

Deciding that I did need some fresh air, I excuse myself and pull Liam to follow me out, not wanting to be alone at the moment.

Prince Nicolas POV

“Son what on earth are you doing speaking to her like that!” my father tells me clearly upset by the tone he is using.

Was I wrong for reacting the way I did? I mean this was not the happy reunion I had pictured in my head when I imagined meeting my little sister.

“Father, I was just caught off guard by her coldness and harshness when she was speaking to the both of you. I have seen how you have both suffered by the separation and the situation you were forced into. How can't she understand that you guys were forced to give her up.”

My mother cuts in, “But son, you also must put yourself in her shoes, her whole life has been a lie. She has been lied to by the people she trusted the most, she must feel her world collapsing and to top it all off she’s going to have to face a lot of danger just because she is a royal female.”

I let out a frustrated sigh, “This is all too frustrating, if she was raised knowing who she was it wouldn’t be this complicated. I still don't understand why we couldn't tell her about it.”

“Son, you know we did what we thought was best at the time. Everything happened so fast and we didn't understand the depth of the danger she was in.”

I knew my parents thought this was their only option given the circumstances , but I always yearned a relationship with my sister. I always wanted a connection with her. It was in my nature as an alpha wolf and a royal one at that. We had a deep instinct to protect our family.

I sighed, “I just pictured that reunion play out a lot differently in my head, it is something I was looking forward to all these years.”

Mother gave me a sad look, “I know son, we all are going to require a whole lot a patience, especially when she seems to have inherited that Goddess awful temper your father and you have.”

That made me smile, "Well, lets just hope that doesn’t end up with everything going up in flames when the three of us are in the same room again.”
