Chapter 30 Chapter 30
Chapter 30 Chapter 30
Marcus POV
The boys were giving me hell about having sex. That is how pirates are. They like to pick on everyone who falls in love.
"That's enough, boys, let's get to work. "
We still had trees to chop and boards to cut. Our boat ship maker was there. He is superb at building a ship quickly. We started building, cutting, and chopping. It was almost noon, and we had all the wood we needed to make a ship. This afternoon, we could start building the ship's hull. I was very pleased that we had worked so hard. I needed the ship built by the end of the winter. Even though it doesn't get that cold here in the tropics. I know that some pirates go where it gets cold during the fall and winter for a change of pace. However, I am not one of those people. I enjoy the warmth more than the cold. The waters here are cool but not cold. I decided to see if Charlotte wanted to go swimming.
In the tropics, it gets hot, especially in the afternoon, so we will probably go until the sun sets, which will make it cooler this evening.
" Boys, let us go get lunch and cool off."
" We will continue when the sun starts to set."
All of them said.
" Yes, captain."
We put all our tools in one location, then went back down the path to the houses. The houses were in the center of the island. I had designed our little village like that because from the ocean, it looked like nobody was there. We kept our fires burning low at night, not to attract unwanted visitors. The seas are full of unwanted people. Especially now that it is going to be winter time. I know that we are going to have people who have gotten lost after taking pleasure cruises. Because that always happens, they don't know anything about sailing, and people want to go to sea. Although it is a little cooler in the afternoon in the fall and winter, fall has just started.
The English celebrate Christmas and other holidays. They especially like to celebrate All Hallows' Eve and the Day of the Dead. They claim that their god is better than the sea gods and witches. I believe in the goddess Calypso. She is the sea goddess who has kept us safe when we have been out. There is a legend that her descendants could also control the sea. I'm not one of them. But there was a rumor that Charlotte's mother was. I will have to see if that is true. My mother would have said something. I walked into the house, and Charlotte was sitting at the table eating a fruit salad. It looked delicious. She had a plate of food made for me. I kissed her on the lip and sat down.
" Hey, babe."
" Hey."
Eleanor walked in from outside with a bunch of vegetables that she must have gotten from the pantry. I got up and helped her with them. I then sat down. She was smiling. She looked as if she had started making dinner. She was like that when she wanted to make something. She started early to make it. Charlotte and I finished eating our lunch and then headed outside.
" Charlotte, babe, do you want to go swimming?"
" Yes."
"Alright, go get ready, then we will go to the beach."
The cool water would feel good for both of us. I had noticed that she was getting a tan. Which is good. The vitamins that you get from the sun are always good; they help with illness and other things. That's why there is an outbreak of illness on the ship. We always stay on the deck as much as possible, even if the sick get put out there for a period of time every day. A serious outbreak is rarely there, though. Usually, what I did to protect my crew was if one of us got sick, we would sail back here, air out the ship, and let them get better. I have not lost very many sailors to illness. I have lost them to fighting, and their wounds have gotten infected.
We went up to the bedroom, and she changed into her swimming dress. I changed into the shorts I had made from breeches so I could swim easily. We grabbed a couple of things to dry off with and then headed down to the beach. I laid out the blanket on the beach. It was still hot enough that you could almost completely dry off from just walking out of the sea. I held her hand as we walked into the sea. I dove in first, then she followed suit. We were splashing around and enjoying ourselves when she pointed to the horizon. It was a ship with white sails. It was one of the royal ships. We quickly got out of the water and ran to the house.
" ELEANOR."
" ELEANOR."
I found Eleanor in the pantry.
" Go get the men and my mother."
I ran upstairs and changed into some clothes. I then took Charlotte to the cellar.
" I want you to stay here in case they find the village."
There was no way that I could cast a strong enough spell that fog would roll in. I needed my mother to help me cast a barrier spell that they couldn't get through. Even though it would seem like the forest was right on the other side. The men ran up to the house.
" Captain, what's wrong?"
"There's a ship approaching our island."
They immediately got to work and to their stations. They knew exactly what to do. My mother then ran into the house.
" Come, son, we need to get to higher ground. We hurried to the mountains in the middle of the island. She started chanting a spell, and I followed suit. Within minutes, a wall was constructed. I could see that the boat was close to the shore.
