Chapter 31 Chapter 31
Chapter 31 Chapter 31
Charlottes POV
Eleanor told me that if the pain was too intense, put just a pinch in a drink, and it would help with the pain. Also, to sit in a warm bath tonight. I had every intention of doing so. It was the afternoon and lunchtime. Eleanor hand-made sandwiches and a fruit salad. She had taken some ham and cheese and made a sauce for the bread. The fruit salad, she sprinkled sugar all over it. It was delicious. A simple fruit salad. I was used to eating three-course meals all day long. Sometimes I just wanted something simple. Marcus came in from the building. He was sweaty and smelled like wood. I found the scent alluring.
He ate his lunch, then asked if I wanted to go swimming. I decided that it would be a good idea. We went upstairs and changed. I got the swimming dress that Chelsea had given me. We walked down to the beach holding hands. I could not help but stare at him. He was sexy to me. I had noticed earlier when I looked in the mirror that I had started to get a tan. My skin was starting to get brown. Being out in the sun a lot was nice. When we got down to the beach. Marcus had spread a blanket out. He was so sweet to think of that. I was looking forward to the cool water. I liked swimming, but hardly ever got the chance to. It was always going to tea parties and hosting dinner parties. During these times, my father would always parade me in front of any eligible bachelor there was in the room.
I hated when he did that. I followed Marcus into the water. We walked into the water, where it was waist-deep. He dove into the water first, then I followed him. The water felt so good. It was cool, not too cold, not too hot. He swam a little way, and I followed him. I was enjoying swimming when I looked to the horizon and saw a ship with white sails. It was one of my father's ships. I started to panic.
"Charlotte, let's go now."
We quickly swam to shore and then ran to the house. My legs felt like jello from swimming, and now I was running. I was struggling to keep up with Marcus. He got to the house before me, and as we walked into the house, he started yelling for Eleanor. He found her in the pantry. He yelled at her to get his men and his mother. I had no idea what was happening. He ran upstairs and was back down in a matter of minutes. Before I knew, he had me by the arm and was dragging me outside and around back to the cellar. I was still half wet when he shoved me into the cellar. It was dark, and you could smell the musty dirt. He then kissed me and said.
" I want you to stay here in case they find the village."
I looked around me, and there was no light. I tried to find a lamp and couldn't find any. Then I closed my eyes and pictured a fire in front of me. All of a sudden, I could feel the warmth of a fire going on. I opened my eyes, and there was a fire going in front of me. How did that happen? Was I that powerful as a witch? I sat down on the floor and enjoyed the fire. The strange thing, though, is that there is no smoke coming from the fire. I would have thought the smoke from the fire would fill the small area, making it almost impossible to breathe. However, there was no smoke. It was warm, and I was comfortable.
I could hear people outside, and everyone shouting to do this, to do that. I honestly did not want to be in the cellar hiding. But I was going to listen to Marcus. If they somehow found the village, they could try to take me since I'm still technically not married. I want to marry Marcus. Not because they took my virginity. People get married where I'm from to make" honest women" out of the women who have sex outside of marriage. If I could somehow convince Marcus to marry me. Then, when they did find us, my father could not make me marry anyone else. Because that would be wrong. You can not be married to two people.
I will discuss the topic with Marcus later, after whatever is going on is finished. I would be happy to marry him. He is handsome, a hard worker, has his own house, and many ships. He would be considered wealthy where im from if he were not a pirate. However, he is a pirate. I didn't care about that. I love him, and he loves me. That was all that mattered. Even if I became a pirate myself, I wouldn't care. I decided to look around and found a bottle of what looked like herbs and other things you'd use for witchcraft. It made me sit down and think about everything. It was clear that I was a witch,
A normal person could not sit down and imagine a fire, only for one to appear in front of them. I needed to embrace what powers I have and practice them. I needed to know how to cast spells and use my power for whatever I needed. Witches have a bad reputation because they are known for using their powers to cast evil spells and hurt people. I pray that not all witches do that. I will use my powers for good and to protect the people that I care about. I closed my eyes and imagined myself outside with Marcus. Then, as if I were standing beside him, I could see the ships had reached the shores. I could also see that Marcus and his mother were trying to build a wall around the island's interior to prevent them from reaching the village.
I closed my eyes again and imagined the wall. All of a sudden, all three of us were raising our hands up, and there was a wall forming around the island. After it was constructed, Marcus' mother turned to where I was supposed to be standing.
" Good work, you two."
Then Marcus spoke.
" There are only two of us here."
She then turned towards Marcus and said.
"That is what you think."
