Chapter 65 Sienna's pov
Chapter 65 Sienna's pov
I felt scared.
Our case went from frying pan to fire. We managed to get scot-free from Stephan and Elder Vincent's men only to fall into another prey.
I don't know if the men knew that we were being hunted. Lucian had passed out as the men dragged him in a sack.
I noticed that he was healing but not as fast as I wanted. I was scared.
My wolf whimpered each time the men stole a glance at my body.
I was a full-grown woman now, and not only that, I was irresistible. Beautiful and pleasing in the eyes of every wolf that dares look at me.
Lucian was the only one who could have me protected, but he was unconscious.
“Gently.”
A voice said from behind. All the men stopped at once. Each of them frowning. The moonlight ahead shone across their faces.
“They are no use to us dead. Do you think the Alpha is going to take it lightly with you when he finds out that the rebels were killed on our way back?” he said again.
My heart skipped and jumped. The moment I heard him call us rebels, I knew there was no escaping alive.
We were either going to be tortured with every inch of our lives or asked which pack we were working for.
“We are not rebels.” I stammered.
“Not rebels?” The man said, walking closer to me. I could see his sharp gaze on me.
“Then what are you if you are not rebels? Your kind has been attacking our lands for a long time now. Do you think you are not going to be caught?”
I fell on my knees. “If you would listen to me, sir. We are not rebels. We are trying to escape from a man who wanted to kill me and my brother. He was injured trying to save me.”
Her gaze went towards Lucian, who was now burning with fever. “You mean he is your brother?”
I nodded fast without thinking twice.
I can't bear to tell them that he was my mate. They might kill him the moment they know who he really is. Real Alphas were seen as threats to other Alphas.
I was glad I could stitch him up before we were captured.
“Let us pass the night here. Set up camps!” The man barked orders again.
Some of the men grunted while the others ran up and down to set up camps.
He looked at the man who has been dragging Lucian. “Get some leaves and treat his wounds. They are not our prisoners until the Alpha declares them one.”
\[Man spits.\]
“Don't tell me you get softened at the gaze of a mere woman?”
The man carrying Lucain said angrily, throwing down the makeshift bed he had been carrying Lucain with.
Lucian coughed while I ran towards him.
“He needs some water.” I said, looking around.
But none of the men moved. It was almost like they had been ordered to stop.
“Are you challenging my authority, Khal?” the man said again.
Khal’s wolf growled, trying to come out to the surface. But this strange man was fast.
He charged at him in a flash and twisted his neck.
\[ Snap! \]
The man dropped dead instantly. I panicked, and my face went pale.
“Is there anyone who thinks he wants to question me?”
The men looked at themselves and immediately got back to work. “You heard the lady. Get her and her brother some water!”
The moment the man gave that order, everything changed.
Men who had been standing stiff and hostile suddenly moved.
One of them rushed away and came back with a waterskin.
Another dragged Lucian gently closer to the fire. I held my breath, scared that any wrong move might make them change their minds.
I knelt beside Lucian and lifted his head slowly. His skin was hot. My hands shook as I pressed the waterskin to his lips.
“Drink… please,” I whispered.
At first, nothing happened. Then he coughed lightly, and a small amount of water slid down his throat. Relief flooded my chest so fast that my eyes burned with tears. He was still alive. Still fighting.
The man stood a few steps away, his chest rising and falling hard. His eyes were filled with anger, but he said nothing.
No one did. None of them wanted to end up like the man whose body still lay twisted on the ground.
The stranger who seemed to be their leader turned his back on the dead man like it meant nothing.
“Remove the body,” he said calmly. “We don’t camp with the dead.”
Two men dragged the body away without a word.
I hugged Lucian’s arm closer to my chest. My wolf was restless, pacing and whining inside me. I could feel eyes on me. But none of them dared come too close.
The leader finally looked at me again. “You said someone wants you dead.”
“Yes,” I said quietly. “A powerful man. An Alpha.”
That got his attention.
He raised a brow. “Then you know what you are running from.”
“I do,” I answered. “That is why we are here. We didn’t mean to cross into your land.”
He studied my face for a long moment. I forced myself not to look away.
“You are brave,” he said slowly. “Or foolish.”
“Maybe both,” I replied.
A faint smirk touched his lips, but it was gone just as fast.
“My name is Ronan. I answer only to my Alpha. Until we reach him, your lives hang in balance.”
My heart sank. That was not comforting at all.
The camp was soon set.
Fires burned low.
The night
insects sang around us, but no peace came with the sound. Lucian’s breathing was rough. I tore a clean piece of cloth from my dress and wiped his forehead.
“Stay with me,” I whispered again and again. “Please.”
I don’t know how long passed before Ronan returned. He crouched near us, not too close, but close enough.
“He will live,” he said.
I looked up sharply. “How do you know?”
“I’ve seen worse wounds,” he replied. “But he needs rest. And a healer.”
“Thank you,” I said softly.
He stood. “Do not thank me yet.”
As night grew colder. One of the men threw a cloak at my feet. I hesitated before pulling it over myself and Lucian. The smell of another pack clung to it, but it was warm.
Sleep did not come. Every time Lucian stirred, my heart jumped. Every sound made my wolf tense.
Just before dawn, Lucian finally opened his eyes.
“Sienna…” he breathed.
I gasped and grabbed his hand. “I’m here. I’m here.”
His eyes tried to focus. “Did… we make it?”
“For now,” I whispered. “Don’t speak. Please.”
He closed his eyes again, his grip tightening weakly around my fingers.
Ronan watched from a distance. His face was unreadable.
I knew one thing for sure.
This was not the end of our trouble.
It was only the beginning. And who was this strange Alpha that was going to determine our fate?
That was something I couldn't stop brooding over.
