Chapter 39

i had been leaving the room for a few days now with no incidents, and whilst i didnt go too far, only to the dining room and library, but it was still a massive acheivement and i was so proud of myself. i had to keep a steady supply of blood with my just in case i got hungry, or the blood lust took over me, and whilst the bags werent as fresh or as good as striaght from the vein, i preffered it. it meant that i didnt need to hurt anyone or risk killing someone.

I was in the library right now, reading some random story about love and triumph in victory, it was nice to sit and relax, to not worry that someone will come for me at any moment, Or that I would be attacked. The Prince had to go off and do some work, Something about being royalty, wasn't all that fun when you had paperwork, but I don't mind being on my own anymore, it was nice to have some time to myself to relax, it was nice to feel relaxed.

It was a quiet moment that I had missed the most when I was on the run, I didn't have to feel tense oOr afraid, I could let my guard down without fear of the repercussions.

i leaned back in my chair, Proud and happy with myself, the last time I had read a book because with my mother, and since then I had refused to pick one up, Like the world would end if I read again. But since I had died and come back a vampire, I didn't really feel much fear for the things I couldn't control, It was like my mind was stronger, Like I could handle more than I ever had before.

I lifted my head when someone else Entered the library, quietly closing the door behind them, My eyes locked onto a young girl, or should I say, young vampire, wasn't turned very long ago from the looks of her, she was skittish and nervous, just as I have been. She was beautiful with a raven black, short hair and dark blue eyes that held the stars, She were an elegant violent gown, one made of what looks like to be the finest silk.

"Hello." I said softly, Not wanting to scare the poor girl.

she looked around in the sort of panic, Have a small and scared. " you ... you can't be here with me, i ... I am a new vampire and I, I don't know if I can control myself."

"Don't worry." I say place in my book back onto the table. "I am a new vampire too, I was only turned just over a week ago."

She looked relieved, like I'd lifted a massive weight from her shoulders. "oh." she said pausing for a moment. "were are you afraid to when you were first turned?"

"I was terrified, I still am some days." i tell her honestly, Knowing that lying wouldn't help her in anyway. "but it does get better and the fear gets less and less."

She nods, Looking around the books in awe. "today is the first day I left the room. I wanted something new to read."

I wave have my hand, "have a look around, Take what you want, I can't read them all at once myself."

She smiles at my words, "you are so kind, Everyone here is, I didn't expect that for a clan of vampires."

"I take it the last clan you were with wasn't as nice." I pause for a moment, Thinking of my own troubles with the other clans. "not all of them are nice, I'm afraid. But you will be happy here, I hope. When I first arrived, I was afraid too, but everyone was so welcoming." I thought that the first time I met the Queen and how scared I was. "scary yes, You will be afraid for awhile, but once you settle in, it gets better. I didn't expect to become a vampire, but here I am."

"you hold it so well, it's like you've been one for 1000 years." she says timidly, watching me sceptically.

"more like 10 days." I laugh closing my book as I remember to put the bookmark on the chapter I was reading. "why don't you come sit and we can chat? Or if you Prefer, you could pick up a book and sit next to me, or across from me. It would be nice to have company for once.."

"are you lonely?" she asks me. "I'm lonely. I never expected been undead would be so boring. But where my girlfriend is away, I don't know what to do with myself."

"my bonded mate is away to, He had work to do." I say, it was like I was looking at a reflection of myself, she was so gentle, so innocent, and yet she was dragged into all of this.

She goes to the shelf and picks out a book, it doesn't take a long and I'm quite surprised she could pick something out so quickly.

"I have been eyeing this one for days." she chuckles, coming to sit down across from me.

we sat for what was an awkward hour or two, not really know what to say to each other, how to cope with each other's company. But after that it got easier. We started reading each other quotes from the books we were reading, And it was nice, we laughed and smiled. Enjoying the simplicity of each other.

"what's your name?" she eventually asked me, Peeking over the top of the book.

I look up from my own book, not expecting the question. "I'm Ariel Ariss, what about you?"

I hadn't even realised we didn't share names.

"I'm Lucy Cole." she said simply. Not really adding much else.

I didn't really mind the simple conversation, it was better than hearing about the work Calen was made to do on a daily basis, THAT was boring. This was not.

We sat there for a few more hours, even shared a blood bag with her, which she didn't expect, she didn't know that we could get them, her girlfriend hadn't told her that yet, but she had only been turned for a few days and she hadn't been expected to leave the room. So perhaps she was waiting to tell her. or Perhaps she preferred it from a source, Some vampires dead, and they wouldn't use the bags provided. But the prince knew how uncomfortable I was feeding from the vein. So he provided me with an alternative. Something I was forever Grateful for.

I look up again after another hour or so, "Were are you afraid when you were turned?" I blushed slightly, My voice cracking. "I didn't even know I would be, I was killed, my own magic killed me."

"you are a witch?" she asked, her face covered with shock. "I didn't know they existed until a few days ago and now here I was seeing one in person, do you still have your magic?"

"I should still have it, but I haven't tested it out yet." I answer honestly, I guess I was still afraid of that part of me. "My magic is sort of chaotic, I can't always control it.

"I suppose that makes sense, vampires can't control their first. Why would would you be able to control your powers fully." she said, and deep thought.. "it's like some sort of balance, like the world had to do something to make you less powerful."

I nod my head, very much agreeing with her. "you are very smart Lucy."

"I tried to be." she laughs, Her face falling as she goes into deep thought. "I was terrified when I was changed, I didn't exactly give my permission for it to happen, I was forced by an ex, she didn't really give me a choice, and then her in a clan abused me. When I escaped, Chloe found me, she has taken care of me since. Yet she asked for nothing in return."

now I understand why she was so afraid when she first came in, it was clear to see the bruises that are still etched in to her skin, even though they were faded. "the vampires here, don't tend to. I told you, they will I'll protect you. Once your family, you stay family. They won't let anyone hurt you."

"I hope you are right." she said.

So was i.
